Religious Education. 2004;99(4):427-434.This article evaluates the portrait of faith development theory and research in James Fowler’s article, “Faith Development at 30.” Questions are raised: Does Fowler’s emphasis on the practical-theological and pastoral focus of faith development contradict its aspiration and disposition for empirical scrutiny? Does Fowler’s principal concern with the reactions from Christian theologians and religious educators indicate disregard of and from psychology? Both questions can be denied with reference to the large amount of research projects which use and apply the faith development perspective. The article suggests further engagement in theory discussion, methodological clarification and empirical research; it invites networking among researchers and indicates future research strategies. But also the practical-theological relevance of faith development theory, especially for religious education, are demonstrated with reference to recent research. The article concludes, in agreement with Fowler, with a proposal to notice the importance of the Conjunctive Faith style for social bodies, and to include this in religious education. With the latter, the article moves beyond a wide-spread faith development application and argues against the false assumption as if children and adolescents could not understand and consider Conjunctive Faith

Leadership development in a faith-based non-profit organisation using a relational leadership model: A case study
Get PDFThis paper describes a case study of a Leadership Development Program (LDP) which has been developed and conducted at a large faith-based non-profit organization providing aged and community care in Australia. Walter Wright's Relational Leadership model which used insights from Jude, Philemon and Colossians was adopted by the organization. Started as a pilot in 2003 the LDP was implemented in 2007 and has been run regularly since then. The LDP was systematically evaluated by an independent researcher recently. The evaluation concluded that the program has been effective and recommended that it continue with some minor modifications. The organization in which this program was developed is a partner in an Australian Research Council (ARC) linkage grant started in 2010 between three universities and two faith-based non-profit organizations providing aged care and community care. This paper has been written by four researchers involved in the linkage grant. Four interviews on participants in the LDP were conducted by the authors to evaluate the effectiveness of the leadership program in order to prepare this paper. The study was carried out to clarify the research aim for the principal author (who is a PhD student in the ARC grant) by trying to understand what the LDP program was aiming to achieve and to be presented at the Spirituality at Work conference at the University of Arkansas

Journal for Empirical Theology. 2013;26(1):1-21.Narrative study of religious lives has formed part of numerous projects at the Bielefeld Research Center for Biographical Studies in Contemporary Religion. An essential instrument in our designs, which mostly combine qualitative and quantitative methods, is the Faith Development Interview (FDI). In response to longstanding criticism its cognitive structural framework has been revised in respect of styles and schemata. The religious styles perspective examines the self as articulated in narratives and associates it with affectivity and emotion. This article gives an overview of our theoretical and methodological revisions, which take cognizance of current developments in lifespan developmental and clinical psychology such as attachment, mentalization and wisdom. We illustrate the implementation of these advances with a case study from our current study of ‘spirituality’ , which we locate in the complex multi-method design, and outline the triangulation of qualitative and quantitative data

Organizations like yours are uniquely positioned to help keep people healthy during the 2009-2010 flu season. In addition to providing information about 2009 H1N1 flu and current response activities, this guide provides specific action steps you can take to help keep your community healthy by: Communicating health information effectively; Supporting vaccination efforts; Linking vulnerable and hard-to-reach populations to vital information and resources; and Expanding and adjusting organizational activities to help people stay healthy. Since there is a great deal of variation among CFBOs, different parts of this document will be more relevant to your organization than others. Use this guide to help inform your response to both 2009-2010 seasonal and 2009 H1N1 flu. This dataset mainly contains the writings of Cornelis Hulsman, Drs., and Jayson Casper among other authors on topics related to Muslim-Christian relations, sectarian tensions, incidents between Muslims and Christians in Egypt, and papers submitted by the staff and interns at the Center for Arab West Understanding (CAWU) on societal reconciliation sessions that follow sectarian strife. This dataset also features reports on the peace building initiative launched by CAWU. Several reports also discuss the Christian faith in Egypt, Coptic monastic life, Coptic political participation and Coptic engagement in national elections. The reports in this dataset also include interviews by Arab West Report staff and interns with prominent social figures and scholars.
Additionally, this dataset contains reporting on workshops and forums hosted or attended by CIDT/CAWU at the time. Furthermore, this dataset contains commentary on published material from other sources (media critique).
