Installation of a new hydropower plant : in Ockelbo Sweden

    No full text
The project consists on the reconstruction of an old and obsolete hydropower plant situated in Ockelbo (Sweden). To carry out this goal it is done firstly a land survey on the place and a preliminary study of which kind of plant should be installed. After that it is done the management part of the project, summarized in the three documents called Business Case, Project Directive and Project Specification. These papers must be written before start running any project.   Before start writing the real project, it is explained a short background of hydropower plants and all their components, the current situation of the site studied and also the status of this green energy in Sweden. The name of the site where it is going to be placed the hydropower plant is Wij Trädgårdar and they want to make this area as an example of sustainability with different kind of green energy production.   Any project must have a pre-study to assure that the task is possible. The theoretical part explains this pre-study, looking at the best turbine and generator with the conditions given by the land survey. This part also gives an overview of the importance to manage a project, how to do it and people who take part on it.   Finally, on the part of the results, the theoretical installation that should be placed with its specifications is defined and also the amount of energy that it can produce. In addition, on the management part, there is concluded how to erect the new installation with the final solution given and those suppliers that will participate on the construction. Also, an economical study is included. The three management documents are added on the appendixes

Study of temperature raise in Gävleán river related to district cooling

    No full text
This project is a preliminary study in order to build a small power plant, located beside to Gavleån River. It has been designed with the aim of cooling a district of Gävle city, Sweden. That big project is carried out by the international consulting engineering company SWECO. The mentioned plant contains a thermodynamic cycle that takes water from the river and afterwards, it is returned back warmer. It will attempt to study the temperature raise downstream along the river due to the spill of hot water. In addition, it will try to quantify and weight which may be the importance of the increment of temperature compared to the entire river. This work could be vital for an environmental impact study. The thermo and fluid dynamic problem is going to be solved using typical procedure for numerical simulations. To do this, it will be used Computer Aided Design (CAD) to model Gavleån River path and Computational Fluent Dynamics (CFD) to predict the distribution of temperatures. Finally the results of the simulations will be analyzed and discussed to draw conclusions about the final temperature raise in Gavleån River.Outgoin

Simulation of moisture alarm for district heating networks

    No full text
Consulta en la Biblioteca ETSI Industriales (Riunet)[EN] This master thesis hopes to be a first approach in the study of the moisture control of the district heating networks. Nowadays the moisture control is based on the resistance value analysis and the time-domain reflectometer usage. These two technic has been proved to be an effective combination in order to detect and localize leakages in the networks. Despite this fact, there is not a wide knowledge about the actual behaviour of this system and the influence of different factors to the system, such as the differentiation between internal and external leakage, the control of the time influence in the system or the external condition influence in control. In order to increase the knowledge of theses two systems and their relation with the system variables, different tests were developed. These tests can be divided into two main groups; the first ones were related with the moisture alarm behaviour in different moisture conditions (related with time, volume and dimensions) while the second group was related with the pipe isolation water absorption for different salt concentrations. The combination of these tests have made the perception of the importance of the time control in the moisture alarm possible due to the facts that the moisture is transferred through the isolation with low speed ratios and that the moisture alarm has showed some limitations. At the same time the study of the alarm reaction to different moisture states has shown a relation between the moisture conditions and alarm results. These results make the idea of a future better knowledge of the network real state based on the time control, the variables study and the moisture alarm reaction possible. But in order to be able to reach this knowledge, some other studies and tests related with the moisture alarm are needed.Guillem Reig, S. (2014). Urban Transition

    No full text
This book assembles the latest knowledge linked to urban environments and urban socio-eco-technological systems including urban, energy, transport, material, and ecosystems. Urban environments and systems affect every person’s life in many ways and can have negative impacts on the local and global environment. They create value but sometimes with a high environmental cost from a lifecycle perspective. Therefore, scientists and global leaders call for an urban transition to create more urban environments and systems that are climate-positive, sustainable, and healthy, which is necessary for society to function within the planetary boundaries. This is a great challenge. Huge transformations and new ways of thinking regarding the design and co-existence of technical, social, and ecological systems are necessary to turn the present challenge into opportunities. This book, Urban Transition - Perspectives on Urban Systems and Environments, explores this challenge and several different topics related to possible, probable, or necessary urban transitions in the urban environment. It assembles a variety of authors who present many aspects and the latest knowledge linked to urban transitions of the urban environment and urban socio-eco-technological systems - including urban-, energy-, transport-, building- material- and eco-systems. Furthermore, the importance of urban systems and urban environments is seldom clearly linked to their impact on the environment and humans. This book examines this gap, the crucial issues relating to how urban systems influence the urban structure, and how they can be formed and designed to become more sustainable. It explores the link between the complex systems in cities, the physicality of the built environment, and the living environments for the people. The book proposes a rich garden of ideas to provoke and develop current research, debate, and new forms of practice
