Arguments in social networks
In spite of a substantive claim for the adoption of agent-based models for social simulation, a shared framework to model key reasoning capabilities of social agents has not been developed yet. To fill this gap, we propose a new model, whereby agents belonging to a social network reason and interact argumentatively, and use trust and coherence setting in order to decide whether and how to revise their own beliefs. With this model, we simulate the propagation of arguments and evolution of opinions in a social context
NetArg: an agent-based social simulator with argumentative agents
We show how agents with argumentative reasoning abilities can be effectively used to run social simulation experiments with NetArg. NetArg agents interact by exchanging arguments in support or against other arguments or opinions, and adapt to new knowledge. By running simulation experiments, we can replicate a robust result in social simulation, namely that small-world network topologies are able to foster information diffusion and cohesion among a population
Modelling Space Perception in Urban Planning: A Cognitive AI-Based Approach
The study deals with cooperative space conceptualization by humans according to the AI-based cognitive approach and the urban-planning approach of architects and planners. It carries out the diagnosis and the control of example spaces in known urban environments. The paper is oriented toward suggesting system architectures to let spatial agents add structuring degrees to navigated urban spaces and challenge relevant disorientation conditions.
The methodology draws on ontology-based text-mining analysis and statistical interpretation applied to university-class questionnaire surveys, exploring behaviours in human interaction with a space. After an introduction, a case-based discussion of the cooperative conceptualization and representation of space is carried out. The third section shows the ontological results of the case-study, with general results and follow-up discussed in the concluding section

Interpretations of Negations in Logic Programs
We consider logic programming languages in which it is possible to derive negative information both through a direct and through an indirect derivation mechanism. The isolated direct derivation steps are monotone and the indirect are based on the Closed World Assumption and therefore nonmonotone. The semantics of the direct and indirect negative conclusions have separately been studied extensively, as can be seen from the work on Definite Logic Programs with classical negation and the semantics of Normal Logic Programming. However, by combining both direct and indirect inferences of negative conclusions in one system, the semantics can no longer be monotone, because of the nonmonotone derivation mechanism of the indirect derivations. On the other hand, it can no longer be the same nonmonotone derivation mechanism that corresponds to the indirect derivations, since there are additional mechanisms to derive falsity. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. A Meta-level Architecture for Strategic Reasoning in Naval Planning (Extended Abstract)
Abstract. The management of naval organizations aims at the maximization of mission success by means of monitoring, planning, and strategic reasoning. This paper presents a meta-level architecture for strategic reasoning in naval planning. The architecture is instantiated with decision knowledge acquired from naval domain experts, and is formed into an executable model which is used to perform a number of simulations. To evaluate the simulation results a number of relevant properties for the planning decision are identified and formalized. These properties are validated for the simulation traces.
