Prediction of potential fishing areas around the Galapagos Islands for a sustainable expliotation of the fishery resources
No full textL'aumento della popolazione mondiale e la carenza di proteine a livello mondiale hanno portato negli ultimi anni a un sovrasfruttamento delle risorse ittiche, colpendo gravemente gli ecosistemi marini mondiali, soprattutto per quei paesi la cui economia si basa sullo sfruttamento di questo tipo di risorse, come il caso dell'Ecuador. Anno dopo anno, a causa della ricchezza di nutrienti e risorse marine intorno alle Isole Galapagos, il paese è stato colpito dalla pesca eccessiva sia all'interno che all'esterno della zona economica esclusiva, infatti la particolare morfologia e geodinamica dei fondali, i processi di interfaccia e le masse d'acqua la circolazione sono i principali fattori e vincoli alle risorse marine e alla presenza di un'area marina protetta nell'isola delle Galapagos. In questo contesto, l'obiettivo principale di questo studio è fornire alla Marina ecuadoriana uno strumento in grado di fornire informazioni tempestive per determinare le potenziali aree di pesca intorno alle Isole Galapagos al fine di pianificare adeguatamente le operazioni navali che combattono la pesca illegale, non dichiarata e non regolamentata. A tal fine sono stati condotti due tipi di esperimenti: per il primo esperimento, la clorofilla è stata assunta come variabile oggettiva al fine di identificare i luoghi in cui è presente un livello più elevato di biomassa, precedentemente previsto utilizzando tecniche di apprendimento automatico, come reti neurali artificiali e regressione multivariata ottimizzata utilizzando le serie di Fourier; per il secondo esperimento, l'analisi statistica dello sforzo di pesca è stata utilizzata per determinare gli intervalli in cui devono trovarsi le variabili oceaniche affinché vi sia una maggiore probabilità di pesca. Con queste informazioni è stato creato uno strumento informatico che propone giornalmente potenziali zone di pesca, secondo le suddette prospettive, oltre a presentare informazioni sul comportamento storico della flotta peschereccia nazionale e internazionale intorno alle Isole Galapagos e le condizioni quotidiane del mare oceanografico variabili considerate in questo studio.The increase of the world population and the lack of protein worldwide have led to an overexploitation of fishery resources in recent years, seriously affecting the world's marine ecosystems, especially for those countries whose economy is based on the exploitation of this type of resources, as the case of Ecuador. Year after year, due to the wealth of nutrients and marine resources around the Galapagos Islands, the country has been affected by overfishing both inside and outside the exclusive economic zone, in fact the particular morphology and geodynamics of seabed, the interface processes and water masses circulation are the main factors and constrains to the marine resources and the presence of marine protected area in the Galapagos Island. In this context, the main objective of this study is to provide the Ecuadorian Navy with a tool that can give timely information to determine the potential fishing areas around the Galapagos Islands in order to properly plan naval operations that combat illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing. To this end, two types of experiment have been carried out: for the first experiment, chlorophyll has been taken as an objective variable in order to identify the places where there is a higher level of biomass, previously predicted using machine learning techniques, such as artificial neural networks, and optimized multivariate regression using Fourier series; for the second experiment, the statistical analysis of the fishing effort has been used to determine the ranges in which the ocean variables must be so that there is a greater probability of fishing. With this information, a computer tool has been created, which proposes daily potential fishing areas, under the aforementioned perspectives, as well as presents information on the historical behaviour of the national and international fishing fleet around the Galapagos Islands and the daily conditions of the oceanographic variables considered in this study
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
