In this thesis we deal with the the first complete Spanish translation of Virgil's Aeneid. The translation was done by a priest, Gregorio Hernández de Velasco and published in 1555 (known as the "Text A") The work is divided into two parts: In the first appears biography and the analysis of the works of the Spanish translator (the translation of the Lagrime di San Pietro by Louis Tansillo, the translation of De partu Virginis by Jacopo Sannazzaro and finally the only original composition La Selva de Aranjuez); In the second part of the study appears Aeneid. The work at the time was a best-seller (or steady-sellers would say John Steinberg) and after 7 reprints came out in 1574 a second edition in 1577 and the final version (B and C respectively). They were examined and cataloged in detail the more than 20 editions have survived until today (10 in the 16th century, 5 in the 18th, and 5 in the 20th); it appears the transcription of the full text of the three versions and the variations in the various fields, metric (blanck verse vs. octaves with elimination of the proparoxitone and oxitone verses), lexical (elimination of latinisms in the more recent versions e.g.: E8, 967 aruspicina → Ø; E5, 1347 conseso → concilio; E10, 489 ignipotente → que en fuego tiene le mando; E1, 1113, E3,312 íncolas → gentes; E10, 351 inexhaustas → abundosas; E3, 424 infestar → Ø; E1, 742 pálido → fea amarillez; E10, 943 período → temporada; E5, 289 repagulo → Ø), morphological (variants imperfect and conditional -ié → -ía- that constitute a real gauge), etc. This work shows for the first time three different versions (and not two as wrongly considered from Menéndez Pelayo and followers). They have been highlighted some loci selecti that identify the edition of the Latin text below.

A Comprehensive Generalized Theory and Classification of Multiphase Systems for Rotating and Linear Electric Machines

The growing interest in electrical machines equipped with multiphase configurations has directed the research to the conception of new design methods and optimization strategies to maximize the performance and the efficiency of the machine for its specific application. In this context, a noticeable gap persists in the comprehensive generalized theory of multiphase systems applied to electrical machines. Therefore, this article aims to propose a new possible classification of multiphase systems based on the electrical symmetries between the corresponding star of slots phasors, starting from the general law related to the spatial distribution of the air-gap magnetic flux density field. This theory extends beyond symmetrical configurations, encompassing both reduced and normal systems, which can be derived from redundant multiphase configurations. Furthermore, the proposed generalization applies to all possible mm-phase configurations, including the structures with slight asymmetries or unbalances. The article provides illustrative examples to reinforce these theoretical concepts to establish a systematic and unified theory and classification that can be adopted for any possible topology of a multiphase system

Thermal Characterization of a Power Loss Minimization Technique in Induction Motor Drives

    No full text
This paper is focused on the experimental identification of the variability of the minimum point of power losses as a function of the thermal state condition of an induction motor drive. More in detail, once identified the optimal level of magnetization of a 5.5 kW three-phase induction machine for the minimum absorption of power losses for different conditions of operation in terms of load and speed, the variability of these values has been characterized as a function of the induction motor frame temperature. The experimental results highlight the need to account for the machine's thermal state when optimizing the performance, due to a shift of the power curves. Therefore, the control algorithm for loss minimization must recognize this thermal variation to properly adjust the value of the loss variable and optimize the power efficiency of the whole system

Opportunity charging for public transportation: opportunities and challenges

    No full text
In this paper, a focus on the opportunity charging for public transportation is made. In particular, the possibility of using a wireless charging system for the urban bus fleets is analyzed. A practical case study is presented. As a result, it is demonstrated how the use of the presented recharging concept contributes significantly to reducing the size, thus the cost of the on-board transport vehicles storage and distributing the power demand over the time, avoiding main grid overloads and optimizing the use of renewable energy sources

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
