Comparative Advantages, Transaction Costs and Factor Content in Agricultural Trade: Empirical Evidence from the CEE
The present study examines factor content in the CEE transition country agricultural trade. However, deviating from the traditional approach, we do not test the HOV prediction. Instead, we examine the theoretical predictions that relate the factor content of international trade to cross-country differences in technology and endowments. Our empirical findings suggest that factor content between agricultural exports and imports is rather similar in CEE. In order to explain the general lack of the CEE agricultural specialisation and the observed paradox, we attempt to identify the role of transaction costs and market imperfections in determining factor content in agricultural production and trade. We find that technological differences and factor endowment are only weak determinants of country specialisation. Transaction costs and market imperfections distort farm specialisation and organisation in CEE, and hence factor content in traded agricultural goods.Comparative Advantage, Transaction Cost, Factor Content, Trade, International Relations/Trade,
The contribution of CEE authors to psychological science: a comparative analysis of papers published in CEE and non-CEE journals indexed by Scopus in the period 1996—2013
IN ENGLISH: Psychology is one of the most productive social sciences in Central and Eastern European (CEE) countries. However, authors from CEE countries continue to publish their work in national scientific journals and limit scientific collaboration to their own national context more often than their Western colleagues. As a result, their contribution to psychological science is largely unknown to the global community. The current study analyzes trends in paper publication in CEE journals, published in CEE countries, and non-CEE psychology journals, published outside of CEE countries, in the period between 1996 and 2013, as well as differences between these two groups of papers. A total of 3846 papers published in 286 journals by CEE authors were extracted from the Scopus database and subsequently analyzed. Among all published papers, 53.2% were published in 14 CEE journals, while 46.7% of papers were published in 272 non-CEE journals. Several general findings emerged from the analyses: (1) In the period between 1996 and 2004, CEE psychologists published their papers more frequently in CEE journals; (2) after 2007, the number of scientific papers increased overall; (3) after 2011, the difference between CEE and non-CEE papers demonstrated a constant and growing trend in favor of non-CEE journals; (4) while the research topics of papers published in both groups were similar, significant differences were found in the methodology applied, where research that used advanced or complex methodology was more often published in non-CEE journals and single-author and review papers were more often published in CEE journals. The significance of these results for European cohesion processes are discussed.
Japanese Multinationals in CEE Transitional Economies
The expansion of EU to the east is making positive contributions to the development of the world economy and facilitating the movement of goods, capital and labor. In particular, the capitals from industrialized countries are pouring into Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), an emerging marked. Meanwhile, Japanese direct investment to CEE is also increasing rapidly. This article is to clarify the following questions concerning the trasuplant of Japanese production system (JPS) towards CEE. Is it possible for Japanese multinationals to introduce JPS into transitional economies in CEE? How viable is the JPS being beleaguered by the European multinationals? In what way would the Japanese firms operating in the countries influence the formation of the local systems? The author will make full use of the data collected through a field work in 2003, to verify the above questions.departmental bulletin pape
Collective investment in the CEE region: risk and return comparison
The purpose of this thesis is to analyze mutual fund performance in the Central and Eastern Europe - CEE region. The author chose two countries from this geographic region, the Czech Republic and Poland. Using the econometric model that is based on CAPM (Capital Asset Pricing Model) the author compares past performance of equity and bond oriented mutual funds. This thesis also examine the theory which states that most of mutual funds are not able to outperform the benchmarks in real terms as they charge relatively high fees. Analyzing systemic risk in CEE markets in 2007-2008 financial crisis
The purpose of the article is to attempt to answer the question of how the crisis affected the banking systems of cee countries, with special emphasis on liquidity risk. It seems that this problem has particularly affected emerging economies. First, the liquidity risk began to exert considerable influence on the functioning banking system and, indirectly, the whole economy. In this paper author wanted to answer the following questions: What are the channels of transmission systemic risk on cee markets? What is the role of big world banking groups in these financial systems? This concept is applied to ten Central Eastern European countries, which experienced a financial crisis. In the research author hypothesized about interconnectedness of liquidity in financial systems and solvency problems of big banking groups operating in CEE

Stages for the More Sustainable Farm
Currently, agricultural farm units are faced with a double and most times contradictory challenge, in order to be successful: on the one hand the invested capital has to be profitable and the economic performance has to be maximised. On the other hand, given the socio-environmental situation, it is necessary to preserve and to protect the environment and natural resources. Given the potential conflict of the two aims, since the satisfaction of one implies the underperformance of the other (and vice versa), the question then is: which is the solution to choose? We intend, in this work, to formulate a farm plan with the purpose of reconciling the criteria of environmental sustainability with that of economic competitiveness. For this achievement we proceed to the comparative study of sustainability of different groups of farms identified in the study area (first evaluation cycle) through MESMIS (“Marco para la Evaluación de Sistemas de Manejo de Recursos Naturales Mediante Indicadores de Sustentabilidad” - Framework for Evaluation of Natural-Resource Systems Handling through Sustainability Indicators) methodology, that allowed to select the more sustainable group of farms. Based on the found potentialities and weakness on these production systems, we stepped to the planning of a production unit of bovine meat, which obeys simultaneously to economic and environmental objectives, using Multicriteria Decision. We finished the work with the sustainability evaluation between groups of farms identified previously and the planned farms (second evaluation cycle), based, again, in the MESMIS methodology, to confirm (or not) the greatest sustainability of the last ones. Analyses of the results allow us to confirm the greatest relative sustainability of the planned farm, for the diverse traced scenarios.Decision taking, planning, sustainability, Environmental Economics and Policy, Farm Management,
Compensatory Collective Redress: Will It Be Part of Private Enforcement of Competition Law in CEE Countries?
The article aims to compare and evaluate solutions with regard to compensatory collective redress existing in CEE countries. The author will attempt to illuminate obstacles and challenges to using collective redress as an avenue for antitrust enforcement in CEE countries, as well as possible advantages of the scrutinised legal frameworks. Besides focusing on national provisions, the article will draw on provisions of the Damages Directive and the Commission's Recommendation on collective redress mechanisms. It will open up the field for de lege ferenda proposals also
