Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. No full textIntroduction : Au Québec, nous avons assisté à une augmentation progressive du nombre de cas de la maladie de Lyme (ML), entre 2004 et 2017. Il existe cependant un manque de données sur les manifestations cliniques, le traitement et l’évolution clinique des cas de ML grave. Objectifs : Notre étude vise principalement à décrire la prise en charge des cas de ML grave au Québec et la concordance de celle-ci avec les lignes directrices de l’Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA). Dans le cadre de notre étude, par ML grave, nous renvoyons à tous les cas de ML confirmés sérologiquement et traités en milieu hospitalier de soins aigus. Notre étude vise aussi à explorer l’évolution clinique sous traitement des cas de ML grave au Québec, à déterminer les changements temporels dans les proportions de référence en spécialité et de cas de ML grave au Québec de 2004 à 2017 et à déterminer les facteurs de risque du syndrome post-maladie de Lyme (SPL). Méthodologie : Nous avons mené une étude de cohorte rétrospective multicentrique, de 2004 à 2017, portant sur des cas de ML confirmés sérologiquement et traités dans les hôpitaux de l’Estrie et de la Montérégie. Notre critère d’évaluation d’intérêt était l’évolution favorable, définie comme la disparition complète des signes cliniques objectivables, 3 mois après de début du traitement. Deux médecins ont évalué, de façon indépendante, la conformité du traitement aux recommandations américaines et l’évolution clinique et leurs proportions ont ensuite été calculées. Les proportions de ML grave et de références en spécialité au fil du temps ont été comparées par des tests du khi-carré. La régression logistique multivariée a été utilisée pour déterminer les facteurs de risque du SPL. Résultats : Les dossiers médicaux disponibles pour 272 cas de ML provenant de 14 installations ont été révisés. L'âge médian des patients était de 51 ans. La ML précoce localisée a été observée dans 33,1% des cas, la ML disséminée précoce dans 51,5% et la ML disséminée tardive chez 15,4% des cas. La conformité aux directives de l’IDSA fut observée chez 90% des cas et n’a pas varié au fil du temps (2004-2013: 89,1%; 2014-2015: 90,1%; 2016-2017: 90,5%; p=0,8). L’évolution favorable a été observée dans 99,3% des cas alors que 10% des cas ont développé le SPL. Au fil du temps, la proportion de ML grave a diminué (2004-2013: 54,1%; 2014-2015: 40,9%; 2016-2017: 36,8%; p<0,005), le taux de référence en spécialité n’a pas significativement diminué (2004-2013: 89,4%; 2014-2015: 81,8%; 2016-2017: 78%; p=0,06) alors que la proportion du SPL a augmenté (2004-2013: 4,6%; 2014-2015: 5,4%; 2016-2017: 15,2%; p=0,009). L’arthralgie (RC ajusté=2,8), les tremblements (RC ajusté=4,7), et le diagnostic du cas entre 2016-2017 (RC ajusté=3,7), ont été associés de façon indépendante au SPL. Conclusion: La majorité des cas traités pour la ML avait une résolution complète des signes cliniques 3 mois après le début du traitement. Le traitement est conforme aux directives de l’IDSA et est stable depuis l’introduction de la ML au Québec. La proportion des cas de ML grave diminue graduellement au fil du temps alors que celle du SPL augmente dans le temps

Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
