Communicating diagnoses and therapies to children
Communicating with children and adolescents, explaining to them crucial aspects of the disease and the therapies they have to perform is not a discretionary choice, but a precise duty of the pediatrician, also sanctioned by international regulations. This article illustrates a patientcentered methodology to communicate effectively also in pediatric age. Its main elements are listening, the use of suitable mediators, attention to the feedback and the organization of the context. The pediatrician can thus become a facilitator of the processes of development and of the autonomous management of health in the patient and in the family, facilitating in all subjects the activation of important systems of empowerment and active collaboration

Modelling regional accessibility to airports using discrete choice models: An application to a system of regional airports
In this paper, we analyse residents' decisions regarding airport access mode in Apulia, a relatively peripheral multi-airport region in Italy. Both revealed and stated preferences data are used to estimate probabilistic demand models. The results are employed to calculate the relevant elasticities, separately for airport users and non-users, with respect to dedicated existing and planned/potential public transport services. We measure the effectiveness of specific policies/actions aimed at generating a shift from private modes (car and taxi) towards public transport, rationalising mobility towards the existing airports. Accessibility is one of the key factors in airports' provision, and an efficient public transport system might represent both an alternative to opening “local” – often costly and inefficient – airports in the same catchment area and a means to exploit economies of scale aggregating demand for existing airports
An iterative procedure for collapse analysis of reinforced concrete plates
An iterative procedure is proposed for evaluating the ultimate load of a laterally loaded plate discretized by finite elements. The procedure regards reinforced concrete plates, but it can be extended to metallic plates without any conceptual change. The stress and displacement fields are approximated by means of a finite element model with constant stress and linear displacement fields. Consequently, any load distribution is represented by the equivalent system of nodal forces for a given mesh. In the set of mechanisms compatible with the assumed discretization the best upper bound to the collapse multiplier of the actual load is obtained via linear programming. By dualization a sequence of linear programming problems is obtained which allows an evaluation of a lower bound of the collapse multiplier for the equivalent load system. When the mesh gets finer and finer, the value obtained does not change substantially anymore. This value can be regarded as an estimate of the collapse multiplier for the original load system. Some numerical examples of plates subjected to uniform pressure confirm the reliability of this approximate multiplier
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
An unity power factor front-end rectifier for DC power systems
This paper is focused on the design of the controller for a single phase rectifier, which represents the last generation interface between utility and dc power systems. Such kind of front-end converter allows mitigating harmonic power quality problems caused by traditional diode bridge rectifiers. This converter should absorb current with low harmonic and near unit power factor, moreover it should allow power reversal. In this paper, the design has been fully investigated with the help of theoretical analysis and experimental results are show
Pornography use, sexual behaviours, and emotional intelligence in Italian adolescents
Sexually explicit material (SEM) is easily accessed by adolescents. This cross-sectional study examined the characteristics of 413 Italian adolescents (aged 17-22, 55% female) who use SEM. We examined the associations of SEM use with relationship status, religiosity, and emotional intelligence. All of the respondents reported accessing SEM while underage, with males using SEM more than females and accessing SEM at an earlier age; earlier exposure to SEM was also found to influence later SEM use. The reasons for watching pornography also differed between the genders. There was a partial connection between the EQ-I:YV, SEM use, and recent sexual activity. The gender differences in terms of the prevalence and reasons for the use of SEM may be connected to a more general gender cultural stereotype
