    Síntesis, caracterización y modificación química superficial de nanopartículas magnéticas de óxidos de hierro. Obtención de nanomateriales magnéticos híbridos

    En este trabajo de Tesis Doctoral se presentan dos metodologías diferentes de síntesis y caracterización de nanopartículas magnéticas (MNPs) de magnetita (Fe3O4), y su modificación química superficial para la obtención de distintos productos con diferentes propiedades de aplicación. Por un lado, se presenta la modificación de MNPs con Pd en vías de obtener nanocatalizadores tipo core-shell superparamagnéticos reutilizables. Se caracterizaron las partículas exhaustivamente mediante numerosas metodologías. Se investigó el rol del estabilizante de las nanopartículas superparamagnéticas (SPNPs) en la síntesis de las mismas, y la posibilidad de realizar intercambios de ligando posterior a la síntesis. Se evaluó la efectividad catalítica de los nanocatalizadores obtenidos en reacciones de acoplamiento para la formación de enlaces C-C de Suzuki-Miyaura, Heck-Mizoroki y Sonogashira-Hagihara, y su posibilidad de ser reciclados. Los nanocatalizadores aquí desarrollados mostraron una buena actividad en las tres reacciones antes mencionadas, con la posibilidad de ser recuperados y reutilizados hasta cuatro veces para reacciones de Heck-Mizoroki y cinco veces en el caso de reacciones de Suzuki-Miyaura. Los rendimientos obtenidos en reacciones de Sonogashira-Hagihara fueron de alrededor de un 40%, pero con una gran ventaja de no necesitar el empleo de un co-catalizador de Cu.Por el otro lado, se informa la modificación química superficial de MNPs de γ-Fe2O3(comerciales) y Fe3O4, en un primer paso con agentes de acoplamiento silano, parafuncionalizar a conveniencia la superficie de las misma, y en un segundo paso con polímeros termosensibles con el fin de obtener materiales magnéticos termosensibles con potenciales aplicaciones en nanomedicina. En el caso de las MNPs de γ-Fe2O3, las mismas fueron modificadas con poli(N-isopropilacrilamida) (PNIPAm) para la obtención de MNPs termosensibles (tMNPs), las cuales exhibieron una LCST (menor temperatura crítica de transición) de 32,5-33 °C. En el caso de las MNPs de Fe3O4, fueron  modificadas con polímeros lineales derivados de poliglicerol monofuncionalizados en orden de obtener nanopartículas magnéticas termosensibles (tMNPs) y con polímeros del mismo tipo bifuncionalizados para la producción de nanogeles termosensibles (tMNGs). Se obtuvieron tMNGs de tamaños de 100-200 nm, con una polidispersidad de tamaños aceptable.     Fluorescence quenching of p-tert-buthylthiacalix[4]arene by 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide

    The interaction between the ionic liquid 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide (EMIMBr) and the macrocyclic compound p-tert-buthylthiacalix[4]arene (TC4) in solution ethanol/water 3/1 V/V was investigated by spectrophotometry and spectrofluorimetry. The UV–Vis spectra of the system (EMIMBr + TC4) were completely additive. The addition of EMIMBr decreases the fluorescence of the TC4 significantly, excited at 325.0 nm. The Stern-Volmer quenching constants were determined at different temperatures (15.0, 25.0, and 35.0 °C), and the obtained values were the same, with an average value of KQav = (3.8 ± 0.9) 103 M−1 for the quenching constant. No changes in the emission spectra of TC4 were obtained by the addition of inorganic salts, such as NaCl, KBr, NH4Cl, and NH4PF6 or the organic compound N-methylimidazole (NMI). More evidence of EMIMBr-TC4 interaction was found with the determination of the fluorescence lifetime and the anisotropy of the mixture. Also, the slope of the quenching plot was the analytical sensitivity of calibration for EMIMBr using TC4 as an indirect sensor, and a LOD = (26 ± 2) μM was obtained.Fil: Cappelletti, Ariel Leonardo.     Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Generation of nanocomposites based on (PMMA-b-PCL)-grafted Fe2O3 nanoparticles and PS-b-PCL block copolymer

    The aim of this work is to obtain a good dispersion of Fe2O3 magnetic nanoparticles into a PS-b-PCL diblock copolymer. For this purpose nanoparticles have been modified in their surface by grafting a PMMA-b-PCL block copolymer into their surface, after being silanized. The grafting process has been probed by infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis and transmission electron microscopy. Once modified, nanoparticles have been dispersed into the block copolymer. Nanostructured lamellar morphology of the block copolymer after annealing process has not been affected by the presence of nanoparticles, as has been probed by atomic force microscopy. Furthermore, their dispersion into the matrix has been improved when compared with unmodified nanoparticles. Though during modification process small aggregates of nanoparticles surrounded by PMMA-b-PCL brushes have been formed, morphology has not been altered or disrupted.     Variations on the Author

    “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

    We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
