Effective role of CaO/P2O5 ratio on SiO2-CaO-P2O5 glass system

    No full text
In the present work, the effect of the CaO/P2O5 ratio on the composition of sol-gel synthesized 58SiO2-(19 − x)P2O5–(23 + x)CaO (x = 0, 5, 10 and 15 mol%) glass samples was studied. Further, the effect of NBO/BO ratio on hydroxy carbonated apatite layer (HCA) forming ability based on dissolution behavior in simulated body fluid (SBF) solution was also investigated. CaO/P2O5 ratios of synthesized glass samples were 1.2, 2, 3.6, and 9.5, respectively. NBO/BO ratios were obtained using Raman spectroscopic analysis as 0.58, 1.20, 1.46, and 1.78, respectively. All samples were soaked in the SBF solution for 7 days. The calculated weight losses of these samples were 58%, 64%, 83%, and 89% for corresponding NBO/BO ratios. The increase in CaO/P2O5 ratio increases the NBO/BO ratios. However, the increase in NBO/BO ratio increases HCA forming ability of SBF treated samples. The HCA crystalline layer formation was confirmed through X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Raman and Infrared spectroscopic analysis. Higher CaO/P2O5 ratio favors the increase in HCA formation for SBF treated calcium phospho silicate glasses

AbstractThe effect of CaO/Al₂O₃ ratio on the structure of CaO–Al₂O₃–B₂O₃ based glassy mould fluxes was investigated by employing ²⁷Al and ¹¹B Triple Quantum Magic-angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance (3QMAS-NMR) and Raman spectroscopy. ²⁷Al and ¹¹B 3QMAS-NMR spectrums showed that Al3+ mainly forms [AlO₄] as a network former and B3+ mainly forms [BO₃] groups in CaO–Al₂O₃–B₂O₃ based glasses. Raman spectrum showed existences of different [AlO₄] structure units and BO₃ pyro-borate units. In addition, deconvolution results on Raman spectrums indicate that the degree of polymerization of aluminate network in CaO–Al₂O₃–B₂O₃ based glasses decreases with the increase of CaO–Al₂O₃–B₂O₃ ratio. The effect of CaO–Al₂O₃–B₂O₃ ratio on viscosity of CaO–Al₂O₃–B₂O₃ based glassy mould fluxes was investigated by employing the rotating-cylinder method. The viscosity decreases with increasing CaO–Al₂O₃–B₂O₃ ratio in CaO–Al₂O₃–B₂O₃ based mould flux. Correlation between viscosity and structural information of investigated mould fluxes was explored.Abstract The effect of CaO/Al₂O₃ ratio on the structure of CaO–Al₂O₃–B₂O₃ based glassy mould fluxes was investigated by employing ²⁷Al and ¹¹B Triple Quantum Magic-angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance (3QMAS-NMR) and Raman spectroscopy. ²⁷Al and ¹¹B 3QMAS-NMR spectrums showed that Al3+ mainly forms [AlO₄] as a network former and B3+ mainly forms [BO₃] groups in CaO–Al₂O₃–B₂O₃ based glasses. Massekhet Keritot. Text, Translation and Commentary. A Feminist Commentary on the Babylonian Talmud

    No full text
The tractate Keritot of the Babylonian Talmud belongs to the Order of Qodashim in the Mishnah. It discusses the Temple and its rituals, especially sacrifices, but deals mostly with laws of incest, sexual transgressions, childbirth, and miscarriages. In this commentary, Federico Dal Bo provides a historical, philological and philosophical investigation on these gender issues. He discusses almost the entire tractate, referring to many other sources, Jewish (the Dead Sea Scrolls, the Sifra, and other rabbinic texts) as well as non-Jewish (Akkadian, Hittite, and Ugaritic). The author also provides accurate philological observations both on the Mishnah and the Gemara. Finally, he addresses gender issues by combining a reductionistic approach to Talmudic study (the so called "Brisker method") with philosophical deconstruction. Dal Bo shows that in nearly the entire tractate Keritot the rabbis discuss human sexuality in a tendentious and restrictive way, claiming that heterosexuality is the only proper sexual contact and progressively stigmatizing any other kind of sexual behavior

    Little Bo-Peep

Here is another Donohue surprise-a book, like Jack and Jill (1895?) that contains only the title-story and fables. This book has the same cover border, the same back cover, and the same Mother Goose endpapers as that book. Its selection of fables surprises me because it seems to complement carefully the selection of fables there. Though they seem to draw on the same sources (see my comments there), there are no repeaters here. After Little Bo-Peep there are four fables, three of which (The Larks and the Farmer, FS, and BW) identify their texts as by Clara Doty Bates. The fourth, TH, has illustrations by Childe Hassam. The first fable is curious for presenting first a full-page illustration by one hand, titled The Larks and the Farmers. Then come five pages with the title The Larks and the Farmer and illustrations by a different hand. Other than Bates and Hassam, I cannot identify the author and artists. There is some material missing at the end, including the finish of BW and one of the endpapers. This book has no spine left. All its pages are separated. Still, I was lucky to get it at this price! This is a hardbound book (hard cover)Clara Doty Bates et a
