Optimal design of microgrid-based resilient hybrid electric vehicle station by considering uncertainties
Designing a resilient hybrid electric vehicle station that integrates battery electric vehicle (BEV) charging and hydrogen refueling, supported by renewable energy sources and hybrid storage systems, is a forward-thinking approach to sustainable transportation infrastructure. This design not only improves energy security but also contributes to environmental sustainability. The system, in terms of local energy sources, consists of solar, wind, battery, and hydrogen storage systems. To design the system optimally, considering uncertainties arising from renewable generation variability, vehicle demand fluctuations, and electricity market prices, a two-stage stochastic programming model is utilized, integrating Conditional Value-at-Risk (CVaR) to explicitly address extreme tail risks linked to demand jumps and generation inconsistencies. We conduct a performance evaluation of the designed system under varying grid connection capacities, resilience constraints, and charger configurations. The analysis reveals significant trade-offs among system resilience, investment costs, and operational profitability.</p
Identical parallel machine scheduling with discrete additional resource and an application in audit scheduling
Resource scheduling has been one of the most prominent problems due to its technical challenges and prevalence in real-life. In this paper, we focus on an extension of the parallel machine scheduling problem with additional resources, which can be classified as a static resource-constrained parallel machine scheduling problem with unspecified job-machine assignment. The novelty of the problem we tackle stems from the additional resource that consists of components with discrete levels. The allocation of this resource to machines induces general covering constraints. This distinct characteristic of the additional resource also arises in a real-life audit scheduling problem, in which local branches of a financial firm are to be audited by a set of auditors with different experience levels. The quantification of the auditor experience and the branch experience requirement enable us to model this problem as an extension of the aforementioned scheduling problem with extra constraints related to the auditing process. We propose mathematical models for these problems and two constructive heuristic algorithms. The upper bounds attained by these algorithms are improved by a tabu-search algorithm, and an efficient lower bounding technique is developed for comparative purposes. We conduct extensive computational experiments to assess the performance of the proposed algorithms
Human being in novels and stories of Ethem Baran
Ethem Baran is one of the significant representatives of the Turkish storytelling of the 1990 generation. His first story book, "Then Comes Parting" was published in 1991. He has filled the universe of his stories he tried to create with cast-off, forgotten people, and told about the unseen and those waiting for to be discovered. Although there are no comprehensive studies about Baran, who has given works in diverse narrative types such as novels and textbooks in addition to his storytelling, it was aimed in this study at determining how he positioned the "human" factor in his works. The two novels and ten story books of Ethem Baran were scanned separately one by one. After examining the handled works, the "human" factor included in the novels and stories were analyzed in itself in an attempt to present them as an integral body. The thesis consist of three sections, namely the introduction, author's life, his artistic and literary personality, human in his novels and stories, conclusion and the reference list. Theoretical information on the phenomena of existence, values and overall characteristics of the human beings are presented in the Introduction section. In the first section, family, education and business life of Ethem Baran, his areas of interest, understanding of art, ideas and works were introduced. Since this thesis does not have the characteristics of a biography, the story of the life of the author was kept short, and his novels and stories were focused on. In the second section, two novels of the author, namely, "the Half" (2008) and "the Book of Escrowed Shadows" (2013) were examined in the frame of "general characteristics of the human being", "conditions of existence of the human being" and "concept of value". In the third section, Baran's story books including "Then Comes Parting" (1991), "Season of Dried Roses" (1994), "Book of Trips with No Return" (2005), "All the Evenings I have Forgotten", (2005), "Gardens of the Steps Far Away" (2006), "Our Houses Face the North Wind (2009)", "Clouds on Clouds" (2011), "Cheating" (2015) and "the Medlar World" (2019) were examined under the headlines of "general characteristics of the human being", "conditions of existence of the human being" and "concept of value" and were concretized with the identified examples. Furthermore, "conditions of existence of the human being" were included in the summaries of the novels and stories. Conditions for existence of being human were analyzed and explained in the light of the influence of Takiyettin Mengüşoğlu starting from philosophical anthropology in the scope and limitations of the said study, and in the conclusion section, the said phenomena, values and general characteristics of the human being in the author's stories were examined, and it was attempted to interpret the human being in the focus of his works. Together with this, the answer to the question of "what is a human being" was searched in the works of the author. Finally, it was concluded upon examination of Baran's works that he was dreaming a universe that hosted human beings who heard the voices of high values and arranged their attitudes accordingly, who are not indecisive with their freedom, who had adopted a meaningful efforts and capable of devoting themselves, who acted in compliance with their environment through adoption of values and who are not marginalized. Together with this, it was seen when characters in his works were examined in social and individual levels in the context of moralist, religious, political, economic, socio-cultural and esthetic values that there were heroes who heard or did not hear the voices of values and experiencing value conflicts. Sources in the center of all this search are given in the "Reference List" together with the identification data. Keywords: Ethem Baran, novel, story, human, human philosophy, value
SUMMARY Atlı, Ahmet, The men of the unseen in sufism, Doctorate Thesis, Advisor: Prof. Dr. Ethem Cebecioğlu, 298 p. The men of the unseen (Ricalu’l-gayb) are the ones who are hidden God’s saints and available in every era but not known by everyone easily. Indeed, their physical appearences are not hidden but their spiritual attitudes are. Although they live in society physically they have got extraordinary skills that cannot be perceived by ordinary people. God charges these people with duties such as; to maintain spritual system, to get kindness, to take badness away, to rain heavily, to increase abundancy, to punish oppressors, to get rid of disasters, to meet needs of creatures etc… Consequently, they have right to lead creatures in permission of God. There is an hierarchy among the men of the unseen. There is an hierarchy among the administrators likewise, there is an hierarchy among the men of the unseen that can be called as administrators of spiritual government. Accordingly, the submit of the men of the unseen Qutb (Pole). After the Qutb respectively, Imaman (Guide), Evtâd (Pegs), Abdâl (Substitutes), Nukabâ ( Chiefs), Nucebâ (Nobles) are in hierarchy. Ibn Arabi is the one who systematizes the understanding of the men of the unseen. He explains of his thoughts and spiritual experiences about this topic comprehensively. He examines the men of the unseen as the ones whose numbers are known and not. Many of author follows his ideas after his era. Though the terms of the men of the unseen are not available in Quran as a word, some Quranic verses are shown as a sign of the men of the unseen’s existence by sufis and some hadiths known as Abdal (Substitutes) hadiths constitute basic of this understanding. However, arguments about reliability of these hadiths leads some authors to search the source of this understanding except Ehl-i Sunne. On one hand, the understanding of the men of the unseen is sharply criticized especially the authors who are out of the branch of sufism, on the other hand sufis support of this understanding
Integrating Individual and Aggregate Diversity in Top-N Recommendation
Recommender systems have become one of the main components of web technologies that help people to cope with information overload. Based on the analysis of past user behavior, these systems filter items according to users' likes and interests. Two of the most important metrics used to analyze the performance of these systems are the accuracy and diversity of the recommendation lists. Whereas all the efforts exerted in the prediction of the user interests aim at maximizing the former, the latter emerges in various forms, such as diversity in the lists across all user recommendation lists, referred to as aggregate diversity, and diversity in the lists of individuals, known as individual diversity. In this paper, we tackle the combination of these three objectives and justify this approach by showing through experiments that handling these objectives in pairs does not yield satisfactory results in the third one. To that end, we develop a mathematical model that is formulated using multiobjective optimization approaches. To cope with the intractability of this nonlinear integer programming model, its special structure is exploited by a decomposition technique. For the solution of the resulting formulation, we propose an iterative framework that is composed of a clique-generating genetic algorithm, a constructive heuristic, and an improvement heuristic. The former is designed to incorporate all objective functions into the generated cliques and specifically impose a certain level of individual diversity, whereas the latter chooses one clique for each user such that the desired aggregate diversity level is fulfilled. We conduct experiments on three data sets and show that the proposed modeling approach successfully handles all objectives according to the needs of the system and that the proposed methodology is capable of yielding good upper bounds
