No full textEn 1526, un jeune catholique nommé Jean Calvin, âgé de 17 ans, rejoint la prestigieuse université de droit d'Orléans. Jusqu'en 1533, à Orléans et à Bourges, Calvin côtoie des étudiants appelés à devenir des personnalités célèbres. Il s'imprègne des enseignements de grands professeurs, parmi lesquels Pierre de l'Estoile, André Alciat et Melchior Wolmar. Au contact des nombreux étudiants germaniques qui peuplent les universités d'Orléans et de Bourges, pour la plupart luthériens, dans une atmosphère humaniste particulièrement féconde et stimulante, il apprivoise les idées évangéliques. Ces années de formation, foisonnantes de découvertes et d'ouvertures intellectuelles, furent fondamentales dans la construction de la pensée originale de Calvin. Dans ce livre, c'est d'abord la question de la genèse d'une pensée émancipée qui est posée. Comment et pourquoi un jeune étudiant catholique bascule-t-il de l'humanisme chrétien à la dissidence religieuse ? Orléans et Bourges furent des étapes vers une radicalité qui se développe réellement à Paris, particulièrement dans le contexte des débuts de la persécution anti-protestante en France. Tour à tour sont abordées la force de la pensée politique de Calvin, la puissance de son verbe, et enfin ses conceptions économiques, sociales et environnementales

No full textEsta contribuição propõe a tradução comentada da primeira cena da peça de teatro La Tragédie du roi Christophe (A tragédia do rei Christophe), de Aimé Césaire. O texto foi publicado pelo autor martinicano em 1963 e encenado a partir de 1964. A história aborda o embate histórico entre os dois líderes revolucionários haitianos, Alexandre Pétion (1770-1818) e Henry Christophe (1767-1820), após o estabelecimento da independência do Haiti, em 1804. O ex-escravizado Henry Christophe I, autoproclamado rei do Haiti em 1811, protagoniza, na peça, os impasses políticos decorrentes do processo de descolonização para a constituição de um novo estado haitiano livre e democrático. Optamos por traduzir a cena que anuncia e ilustra, na abertura do primeiro Ato, o caráter trágico que permeia o desenrolar dos eventos.This contribution proposes the commented translation of the first scene of the play La Tragédie du roi Christophe (The tragedy of King Christophe), by Aimé Césaire. The text was published by the Martinican author in 1963 and staged from 1964 onwards. The story addresses the historical clash between the two Haitian revolutionary leaders, Alexandre Pétion (1770-1818) and Henry Christophe (1767-1820), after the establishment of Haitian independence in 1804. The ex-enslaved Henry Christophe I, self-proclaimed King of Haiti in 1811, stars, in the play, political impasses resulting from the decolonization process, for the constitution of a new free and democratic Haitian state. We chose to translate the scene that announces and illustrates, in the opening of the first Act, the tragic character that permeates the unfolding of events

No full textLe gisement magdalénien de La Chaire-à-Calvin (Charente) est connu de longue date. Toutefois, après 150 ans de recherche, les interprétations chrono-stratigraphiques, avancées par plusieurs générations de chercheurs, ne s’accordent pas entre elles, ni avec les deux datations radiocarbone disponibles. Dans ce contexte, un nouveau programme de mesures radiométriques du remplissage a abouti à trois nouvelles dates. La présente note expose ces résultats et en discute la validité au sein de la séquence du site.The Magdalenian site of La Chaire-à-Calvin (Charente) has been known of for a long time. However, after 150 years of research, the many chrono-stratigraphic interpretations put forward by generations of scholars do not concur with each other nor with the two available radiocarbon dates. A new program of radiometric measurements of the filling has provided three new dates. The present note details these results and discusses their value within the archaeological sequence of the site.Der magdalénienzeitliche Fundplatz von La Chaire-à-Calvin (Mouthiers-sur-Boëme, Charente) ist seit langer Zeit bekannt. Jetzt, nach rund 150 Jahren archäologischer Forschungen, ist festzustellen, dass die chronostratigraphischen Interpretationen verschiedener Forschergenerationen weder untereinander korrespondieren noch mit den beiden vorliegenden Radiokarbondatierungen in Übereinstimmung zu bringen sind. Vor diesem Hintergrund hat ein neu gestartetes Programm von Radiokarbondatierungen an der Schichtenfolge drei neue Daten erbracht. Dieser Beitrag stellt die neu erzielten Datierungsergebnisse vor und diskutiert die daraus abzuleitenden Schlussfolgerungen in Bezug auf die archäologische Stratigraphie des Fundplatzes

Les réformateurs protestants, la pensée de Calvin et l’émancipation de l’économique
No full textLa Réforme protestante, et tout particulièrement l’œuvre de Calvin, est un moment clé dans le lent processus qui, de l’Antiquité à l’époque contemporaine, verra l’économique s’autonomiser, jusqu’à saisir l’ensemble des autres domaines de la vie sociale, et surplomber la hiérarchie des valeurs et des savoirs.La Réforme introduit une première rupture d’avec la tradition héritée des Grecs anciens de défiance vis-à-vis de l’économique. En réclamant, au nom de la séparation nécessaire des « deux royaumes », que la théologie ne s’occupe pas directement de ce qu’il conviendrait de penser du gouvernement civil et de l’organisation de la cité, elle contribue à lever la prédominance des considérations morales sur les réflexions en matière de philosophie politique. Elle contribue alors à favoriser le développement d’une science profane, qui jetant un regard neuf sur les pratiques économiques, contribuera à légitimer l’expansion de l’économique (le common wealth) en en faisant un élément central du common weal.Surtout, la Réforme, en affirmant une éthique protestante spécifique, favorise le développement, d’une manière largement inintentionnelle, de ce que Weber appelle un « esprit du capitalisme ». Mais cet esprit est alors encore tout « imprégné » du religieux, et précisément de l’éthique du croyant. Il y a là un élément essentiel qui inscrit la Réforme tout autant en continuité d’avec la tradition chrétienne, qu’en rupture avec la pensée scolastique. Il y a là, surtout, ce qui garantit, dans la poursuite des passions acquisitives, la mesure nécessaire à l’accomplissement du bien commun.Ce n’est que lorsque cette imprégnation religieuse se repliera, et que l’esprit du capitalisme sera alimenté, non plus par l’éthique du croyant, mais par l’hédonisme affirmé de l’homo economicus que se déploiera le champ d’un capitalisme « désenchanté », sans limite dans sa volonté d’accumulation, et sans mesure. Ce capitalisme-là n’est clairement pas celui qu’ont pu porter les idées de Calvin
