L'indagine è condotta per buona parte sul carteggio intercorso tra i due e non tralascia di confrontare l'edizione a stampa del carteggio stesso con i documenti originali. Ne emergono alcun elementi di dettaglio non trascurabili rispetto al più generale quadro già illustrato nella monografia "Guido Calogero (1923-1943)", Pisa, Edizioni della Normale 2011.The essay takes into account the relations between Aldo Capitini and Guido Calogero in the initial phase of the antifascist movement 'liberalsocialismo'. The enquiry is conducted mainly upon the letters exchanged between the two, and considers also the manuscripts, confronting them with the edited letters. Detailed elements are emerging in front of the more general picture illustrated in the monograph "Guido Calogero (1923-1942), Pisa, Edizioni della Normale 2011

Si tratta di uno strumento di studio prezioso per attingere a quei percorsi critici e a quelle forme del dissenso che hanno animato una parte importante della storia repubblicana, pur rimanendo minoritarie e largamente inascoltate. Late-onset hypogonadism: beyond testosterone
No full textLate-onset hypogonadism is defined as a combination of low testosterone (T) levels and typical symptoms and signs. A major area of uncertainty is whether T concentrations are always really sufficient to fully reflect Leydig cell (dys)function. Mild testicular alteration could be diagnosed only by additional biochemical markers, such as luteinizing hormone (LH) and 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels. These markers help in identifying the so-called "subclinical" hypogonadism (normal T, high LH levels). Patients with hypogonadism have frequently low levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D due to impairment of the hydroxylating enzyme CYP2R1 in the testis. However, no data have been published dealing with the best treatment option (cholecalciferol - the Vitamin D precursor, or calcidiol - 25-hydroxylated form of Vitamin D) in these patients. We studied 66 patients with classic hypogonadism (total T [TT] <12 nmol l-1 , LH ≥ 8 IU l-1 ) (n = 26) and subclinical hypogonadism (TT ≥ 12 nmol l-1 , LH ≥ 8 IU l-1 ) (n = 40) and low 25-hydroxyvitamin D (<50 nmol l-1 ). Subjects received cholecalciferol (5000 IU per week) (n = 20) or calcidiol (4000 IU per week) (n = 46), and 25-hydroxyvitamin D and parathyroid hormone (PTH) were evaluated after 3 months of therapy. Supplementation with calcidiol significantly increased 25-hydroxyvitamin D and significantly decreased PTH levels in both groups of men with hypogonadism (primary, n = 16 and subclinical, n = 30), whereas supplementation with cholecalciferol did not modify their levels. This study shows for the first time that the administration of the 25-hydroxylated form of Vitamin D (calcidiol), and not the administration of the precursor cholecalciferol, restores 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels in subjects with hypogonadism

[Anatomo-surgical notes on splanchnicectomy: original research on 15 autopsy observations].
No full textSurgical splanchnicectomy for the relief of neoplastic pain is a palliative strategy in cases of unremovable pancreatic cancer. The first step in the achievement of satisfactory and long-lasting relief of pain is the correct identification of semilunar ganglia and splanchnic nerves during laparotomy. In this light, we tried to estimate the exact location, number, shape, and length of splanchnic nerves and ganglia in 15 corpses (mean age 39.9 years, range 21-74, F/M/ = 5/10). Right and left splanchnic nerves always pierce the diaphragm laterally to the crus. On the right side, the splanchnic nerve always enters the abdomen posterior to the inferior vena cava, on the right edge in 10\%, on the middle in 73\%, on the left in 17\% of the cases. On the left side, the splanchnic nerve pierces the diaphragm strictly thickened to the left edge of the aorta in 66.6\% of the cases, close to the left edge in 26.6\%, and close to the right edge of the left adrenal gland in 6.8\%. The right splanchnic nerve slides almost horizontally on the diaphragmatic bundles, and reaches an area delimited by the coeliac trunk and the superior mesenteric artery. The length of the right splanchnic nerve is 41 mm of the mean (range 20 to 55 mm): the thickness is between 4 and 6 mm. The left splanchnic nerve is shorter (mean 24 mm, range 15; 30 mm). The right splanchnic nerve varies from 2 to 6 ganglionar bodies and varies in size from 4.5 mm to 30 mm; the left nerve varies form 2 to 4 (sizes between 4 mm to 26 mm).(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS
