“Fear No More”: Gender Politics and the “Hell” of New Media Technologies in Michael Almereyda’s Cymbeline (2014)

The paper focuses on Michael Almereyda’s Cymbeline (2014), a modernized re-telling of Shakespeare’s play in which the Briton motorcycle gang, led by drug kingpin Cymbeline, comes into conflict with the Rome police force, led by Caius Lucius. In the film, which has been defined as “Shakespeare in the Instagram age,” sustained attention to media practices and technologies competes with the incorporation of textual material. In particular, the film displays a conflict between old media, including Shakespearean textual inscriptions (e.g. the “Fear No More” woodcut that Posthumus makes and sends to Imogen as a gift), and new media technologies, pervasively associated with perverse visualization and the “spreadability” of rumour and untruth. The paper shows that the media consciousness of the film is inextricably linked with its politics of gender and, more specifically, that the processes of remediation that it repeatedly activates fundamentally contribute to the fashioning, rearticulation, and questioning of notions of masculinity and male bonding.

Energy barriers at the ends of carbon nanotube bundles: Effects on interstitial adsorption kinetics

We investigate the presence of adsorption sites and energy barriers near the ends of carbon nanotube bundles to determine their consequences on gas adsorption in the interstitial channels between the tubes. In the case of H2 molecules adsorbing in bundles of closed (10,10) tubes, a high binding energy site followed by a potential barrier lie right before the entrance to the interstitial channels, producing a dramatic slowing down of interstitial adsorption kinetics.Fil: Calbi, M. Capillary condensation for quantum fluids

    No full text
A simple model has been proposed and evaluated to predict the nature of capillary condensation in a slab geometry. We present a study of adsorption of fluids He-3 and He-4 that test this model. These calculations employ the density-functional method applicable at zero temperature. Overall, the simple model works well in comparison with microscopic calculations. [S0163-1829(99)01945-1]

Orticoltura e benessere. Cinque anni di esperienze nell’Orto Botanico Villa Beuca di Cogoleto (GE)

Villa Beuca Municipal Botanic Gardens were inaugurated on june 2001. They are located on the Beuca Hill (Municipality of Cogoleto near to Genova) and are aimed to valorize and preserve the diversiy of the Ligurian flora, to develop didactic training in Botany, and to contribute to the therapy of patients with social and psychological troubles. In the recent five years these Botanic Gardens are managed by the little social co-operative society “Il giunco”. The collaboration of the Local Mental Autorithy with this Co-op and the partecipation of the patients to the life of the Botanic Gardens allow significant amelioration of the patient conditions. The natural appearance of the Villa Beuca Botanic Gardens and the social-psychological well-being of the patients grow together as a “landscape” of social and natural interactions

Dilation-Induced Phases of Gases Absorbed within a Bundle of Carbon Nanotubes

    No full text
A study is presented of the effects of gas (especially H-2) absorption within the interstitial channels of a bundle of carbon nanotubes. The ground state of the system is determined by minimizing the total energy, which includes the molecules' interaction with the tubes, the intertube interaction, and the molecules' mutual interaction (which is screened by the tubes). The consequences of swelling include a reduced threshold pressure for gas uptake and a 2.7% increase in the tubes' breathing mode frequency
