Organic carbon inputs to the sea bottom of the Mallorca continental slope
No full textTo assess the origin and degradation state of the organic particles sinking towards the sea bottom of the Mallorca continental slope, the major inorganic and organic components of the total mass flux and its biochemical compo- sition (in terms of protein, carbohydrate, lipid and phytopigment contents) have been analysed. Two instrument- ed lines were deployed at the western (Sóller station, Balearic sub-basin) and southern (Cabrera station, Algerian sub-basin) slopes of Mallorca Island, 900 m depth from November 2009 to January 2011. The two locations are characterized by putatively different environmental settings. Settled material at Sóller station has higher lithogenic contents when compared with the Cabrera one. Such difference can be explained by the synergistic presence in the Sóller station of large inputs of resuspended material due to the mesoscale variability of the Balearic current and the impact of bottom trapped waves. On the other hand, at the Cabrera station sinking particles are characterized by OM and opal percentages higher than those recorded at the Sóller station. This result points out that organic particles reaching the sea floor at the Cabrera station have a pre-eminent pelagic origin. Based on analyses of the C and N stable isotopes of the sinking material, our results also highlight that, overall, the OM reaching the sea floor at the Mallorca slope is mostly of marine origin. In general, the OM settled at the Sóller station has a higher nutritional value than that at the Cabrera one. Such a difference, occurring across a relatively reduced spatial scale, let us hypothesizing that the nutritionally richer particles descending in the Cabrera station are exposed to a less energetic environment than that in the Sóller setting. This would lead to higher settling velocity of particles in the Sóller setting which in turn would result in lower degradation rates of particles during their descent towards the sea bottom

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. Hoy en día, muchas aerolíneas ya tienen su propia página web con el fin de ofrecer a sus clientes su stock de vuelos. Sin embargo, la mayoría de clientes realiza la búsueda de vuelos a través de metabuscadores que acaban derivando en agencias de viages online. Tantas alternativas ofrecen al consumidor una forma fácil de buscar y encontrar vuelos baratos. Sin embargo existen muy pocas o casi ninguna alternativa para alterar los billetes comprados. Además dado el gran abanico de posibilidades en cuanto a aerolíneas, cambiar un billete se convierte en un proceso complejo, ya ue cada aerolínea tiene sus propias reglas. De esta forma, una agencia que venda billetes de muchas aerolíneas, necessita conocer las reglas de cancelación o modificación de los billetes de todas ellas, aplicando un proceso diferente para cada una cuando un cliente decide modificar su vuelo. Es por esto que casi ninguna agencia ofrece un servicio de modificación de billetes. Este proyecto pretende ofrecer a la agencia online Logitravel un servicio para unificar las reglas de modificación de las múltiples aerolíneas que venda y brindar al cliente la posibilidad de realizar múltiples modificaciones en un billete. Para ello, la mejor alternativa es utilizar los servicios de uno de los sistemas de venta de billetes más consolidado hoy en día: Amadeus, con el que una agencia tiene acceso a billetes de casi 500 aerolíneas diferentes. TravelgateX es la empresa encargada por Logitravel para desarrollar este servicio. Ambas empresas mantienen una relación de negocio business to business, unificando el acceso a reservar aéreas de múltiples aerolíneas, agregadores o consolidadores como Travelfusion, en un único formato: API Transportes.
