Recurrent glioma and crossed cerebellar diaschisis in a patient examined with 18F-DOPA and 18F-FDG PET/CT
No full textTwo years after resection of a left parietal glioma, a 46-year-old woman underwent F-FDG and F-DOPA brain PET/CT. FDG showed left parietal hypometabolism with crossed cerebellar diaschisis. No abnormally increased FDG activity was seen. F-DOPA PET/CT scan demonstrated focal left parietal uptake. Recurrent glioma was confirmed by surgical biopsy. F-DOPA may demonstrate abnormal amino acid metabolism in evaluation of recurrence of glioma
Le zecche di Cartagine e Alessandria nella prima Tetrarchia
No full textLe monete emesse dalla zecca di Alessandria e Cartagine, emesse tra il 294 e il 313 d.C. fanno parte delle emissioni della prima Tetrarchia (293-305 d.C.). Esse hanno offerto lo spunto per poter prendere in considerazione alcuni esemplari conservati nel Medagliere della Biblioteca apostolica vaticana. La curiosità dello studioso prende le mosse dall’idea di comprendere le reali ragioni che hanno spinto alla formazione di una collezione, ovvero una scelta mirata oppure casuale, anche se a tal proposito mancano documenti comprovanti tale criterio. Le monete della collezione del Medagliere vaticano relative a Cartagine sono 54 (296-307 d.C.); quelle della zecca di Alessandria sono 44 (295-310 d.C.). I nominali sono tutti follis e relative frazioni. Segue una schedatura di 4 esemplari della zecca di Cartagine e 4 della zecca di Alessandria, secondo una scheda elaborata dalla prof.ssa P. Calabria e il dott. F. Di Jorio. Le monete sono presenti sul sito internet della Biblioteca apostolica vaticana, e sono state inserite dal dott. F. Di Jorio

No full textJersey Homesteads (later the Borough of Roosevelt) was established in the 1930s as an agro-industrial cooperative community. It was established specifically for urban Jewish garment workers, many of whom had emigrated from Europe. President John F. Kennedy sent a telegram to the citizens of Roosevelt, New Jersey, apologizing for not being able to attend the memorial dedication in honor of former President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. (Jersey Homesteads became Roosevelt in 1945 in honor of the president.) President Kennedy expressed his gratitude to the people of Roosevelt for constructing the memorial, and commented that it will serve as a constant reminder of Roosevelt's good works

The author shows that, for n sufficiently large, the index of the inclusion An=(Q⊗A2n)∗A2nA1n⊂(Q⊗A2n+1)∗A2n+1A1n+1=An+1 is equal to λ (here ∗ denotes the reduced, amalgamated free product of the algebras in question). Using the random matrix model of Voiculescu, he proves that if Q is the von Neumann algebra L(F∞) of the free group with infinitely many generators, then An is isomorphic to L(F∞).
The two facts together imply the existence, for any λ in the Jones discrete series, of an irreducible subfactor of L(F∞) of index λ. This constitutes the first example of a nonhyperfinite, non-Γ II1 factor such that its Jones invariant is fully computable (the existence of nonirreducible subfactors of L(F∞) for any index ≥4 is a simple consequence of known results)

No full textThe new model of rural development, based on the recognition of the economic, social and environmental function of the European agriculture, mainly headed to make strategies of intervention concerning about, from one side, the competitive ability of the agricultural and agro-industrial enterprises, and, from the other, the increasing of the economic, human, environmental and historical-cultural resources. In such context the multi-functional role of agriculture becomes central and the agricultural operators have to adapt themselves to items (the territories, the rural societies, the consumers, etc.) and to different prescriptions related to demands linked up with the productivity and/or the territory (defence of the ground, of the landscape, of the cultural traditions, of the rural development, of the environment, of the quality). The present research documents the results of a territorial social-economic investigation, developed with the aim of examining the productive and environmental potentialities of the terraced winegrowing present in the territory of the "Costa Viola" in the province of Reggio Calabria (Calabria, Italy). The study starts from an analysis of the territory and individualizes a sample of wine-growing farms in order to examine, through specific social economic investigations (developed through a questionnaire), the actual conditions of the grape cultivated terraces, the status of the "representative farmer" of the vineyards and the achieved economic results. È una ricerca critica che tenta di individuare – anche attraverso strumenti di lettura che sconfinano dal campo disciplinare dell’architettura e del paesaggismo – idee e valori assunti dai progetti e interpretati dai loro autori.
L’esito, come spesso succede in uno studio di questo tipo, è simile ad un viaggio.

No full textThe authors report on the contemporary presence of the Eucaliptus longhomed borers Phoracantha recurva Newman and Phoracantha semipunctata F. in the entomological collection of the Department of GESAF of the Mediterranea University of Reggio Calabria. Subsequently P. recurva was observed to occur in Eucaliptus woods in Calabria and it can be easily differentiated from P. semipunctata through the stains pattern on elytrae, the pilosity on antennae and the dorsal face spines on posterior femurs.In concomitanza della catalogazione della collezione entomologica del Dipartimento GESAF dell\u27Università degli Studi Mediterranea di Reggio Calabria è stata riscontrata la presenza di due esemplari di Phoracantha recurva Newman all\u27interno delle cassette entomologiche destinate a Phoracantha semipunctata F. I due esemplari raccolti nel 1992 e nel 1995 anticipano la data di segnalazione della specie in Italia. A seguito di indagini successive è stata evidenziata la coesistenza dei due xilofagi negli eucalitteti della costa jonica della Calabria. Vengono, inoltre, riportate le principali differenze morfologiche tra le due specie
