“The Pondering Repose of If”: Herman Melville’s Literary Exegesis
No full textThis study examines how Herman Melville’s oeuvre interacts with Old Testament (OT) wisdom literature (the Books of Job, Proverbs, and Ecclesiastes). Using recent historical findings on the rise of religious skepticism and the erosion of Biblical authority in both Europe and the United States, I read Melville as an author steeped in the theological controversies of the eighteenth-century. Specifically, I am interested in teasing out the surprising disavowals of overt religious skepticism in Melville’s writing. By tracing the so-called Solomonic wisdom tradition throughout Melville’s oeuvre, I argue that Melville had developed an epistemology of contemplation towards that body of Biblical texts. Scholarship has traditionally painted Melville as a subversive if not downright skeptical religious thinker. Most studies have produced authorial readings, using texts as forensic evidence to make assertions about the author’s psychology. Incidentally, such assessments have confirmed the narrative of Herman Melville as a grand failed author of the nineteenth century, while ignoring the ambivalent attitudes toward Biblical authority, textual history, and skepticism that emerge in Melville’s writing. The present study intervenes by re-addressing several procedural questions about Melville’s literary dealings with the Bible: How does Melville deal with the distinct topics of religion, theology, religious skepticism, and doubt? How does he think through the relationship between science and religion as well as that of personal religion and theology? I claim that Melville’s work can be read as a continuous contemplation of Biblical wisdom. His writing, I argue, deals productively rather than a destructive with the Bible, its textual history, and authority. Melville’s thinking on theological and religious subjects was not merely subversive but constructive. In mounting this argument, I contradict current scholarship that reads Melville as trying to invent a new American Bible. In contrast, I show how Melville’s philosophical forays, even when critical, are dependent on the ethics, language, and thinking of the OT.Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)Englis

No full textAbstractThe Flemish writer Herman Brusselmans is the most famous author of the Low Countries. In this article, Herman Brusselmans is analysed as a star author. First and foremost, two striking aspects of Brusselmans’s stardom are analysed: his public visibility and the cult of the private. Attention is then focused on Brusselmans’s experience of celebrity, which he - like many other star authors - thematises in his books. Doing so, he consciously places himself in the context of popular culture. On the other hand, as a result of his celebrity status he has been expected - particularly in the last few years - to assume the role of public intellectual willy-nilly, and this in turn has had consequences for his work.</jats:p

memunculkan kerjasama sistem bagi hasil Muzara’ah antara pemilik lahan dan petani yang tidak memiliki lahan tetapi
memiliki keterampilan bertani. Kegiatan sistem bagi hasil Muzara’ah ini dipengaruhi oleh beberapa faktor, salah satunya
adalah faktor ekonomi, faktor kelembgaan dan faktor sosial. Ketiga faktor tersebut memiliki beberapa indikator yang
nantinya dapat digunakan untuk ketika faktor tersebut yang merupakan variabel dependen. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah
untuk mengetahui indikator dari faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi Muzara’ah memiliki pengaruh atau tidak terhadap
indikator Muzara’ah serta untuk mengetahui apakah terdapat perbedaan preferensi petani atau tidak terhadap faktor-faktor
yang mempengaruhi Muzara’ah. Metode analisis yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Chi-Square dengan bantuan
software SPSS. Hasil penelitian Pada faktor Ekonomi menunjukkan indikator faktor ekonomi lebih banyak yang tidak
berpengaruh terhadap indikator muzara’ah. dan mayoritas prefernsi petani sama terhadap indikator faktor ekonomi yang
tidak berpengaruh terhadap indikator muzara’ah. Pada faktor Kelembagaan menunjukkan indikator faktor kelembagaan lebih
banyak yang tidak berpengaruh terhadap indikator muzara’ah dan mayoritas preferensi petani sama terhadap indikator faktor
kelembagaan yang tidak berpengaruh terhadap indikator muzara’ah. Pada faktor Sosial menunjukkan indikator faktor sosial

No full textPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh pendapatan keluarga, pendidikan suami, pendidikan istri, usia kawin pertama dan lama pemakaian alat kontrasepsi terhadap fertilitas buruh kopi di Desa Garahan Kecamatan Silo Kabupaten Jember. Untuk tujuan analisis digunakan data primer dan sekunder dengan menggunakan metode analisis regresi liniear berganda. Dari hasil analisis ditarik kesimpulan bahwa secara bersama-sama pendapatan keluarga, pendidikan suami, pendidikan istri, usia kawin pertama, lama pemakaian alat kontrasepsi berpengaruh signifikan terhadap terhadap fertilitas buruh kopi di Desa Garahan Kecamatan Silo Kabupaten Jember. Secara parsial pendapatan keluarga, pendidikan suami, usia kawin pertama dan lama pemakaian alat kontrasepsi berpengaruh signifikan terhadap fertilitas. ANALISIS TATANIAGA BUAH NAGA DI DESA BULUREJO KECAMATAN PURWOHARJO KABUPATEN BANYUWANNGI
No full textBuah naga Banyuwangi khususnya yang terdapat di Kecamatan Purwoharjo Desa Bulurejo merupakan salah satu produk unggulan daerah yang potensinya cukup besar untuk dikembangkan saat ini. Aspek pemasaran buah naga merupakan hal penting dalam mendukung peningkatan pendapatan petani buah naga. Banyaknya lembaga tataniaga yang terlibat dalam pemasaran buah naga akan mempengaruhi panjang pendeknya rantai tataniaga dan besarnya biaya tataniaga. Besarnya biaya tataniaga akan mengarah pada semakin besarnya perbedaan harga antara petani produsen dengan konsumen. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui jalur sistem pemasaran, mengetahui sistem pemasaran marjin, pangsa petani dalam sistem pemasaran Buah Naga di Desa Bulurejo Kecamatan Purwoharjo, Kabupaten Banyuwangi. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode survei dan sumber data yang digunakan adalah data primer dan data sekunder. Metode penentuan sampel petani menggunakan metode purposive sampling dan penentuan agensi sistem perdagangan menggunakan metode snowball sampling. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa terdapat lima saluran sistem pemasaran, sistem margin yang paling besar berada pada saluran 2 buah naga dengan margin Rp.10.000 / kg, pangsa petani terbesar adalah pada sistem saluran 5 buah naga dengan nilai Pangsa petani 100% dan pangsa petani terkecil ada pada sistem saluran 2 buah naga dengan nilai saham petani 33,33%
