    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed.     “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

    We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used

    Bu çalışmada, yeşil sentez metodu ile Plantago lanceolata L. su ekstraktından demir nanopartikül sentezlenmiştir. Yeşil sentez metodu ile sentezlenen SOE@FeNP'nin yapısal, morfolojik ve optik özellikleri UV-Vis, FTIR, XRD, SEM, EDX, TEM ve DLS gibi analizler ile karakterize edilmiştir. Sentezlenen NP'lerin karakterizasyon çalışmasında boyutları değişiklik göstermekle birlikte ortalama 8 nm boyutunda kübik bir yapıya sahip olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Elde edilen SOE@FeNP'nin Kongo kırmızı boya degredasyonunda etkinliğinin belirlenmesi için farklı başlangıç boya konsantrasyonu, farklı başlangıç adsorbanı, farklı pH ve iki farklı sıcaklık ile çalışma yapılmıştır. Optimum adsorbsiyon şartlarının belirlendiği çalışmada, en yüksek boya adsorbsiyonunun pH 8'de, 25 ℃'de 50 ppm başlangıç boya kontrasyoununda 15 mg SOE@NP'ler ile olduğu bulunmuştur. Bu şartlar altında nanopartikülün % 99,9 oranında boya adsorblama kapasitesine sahip olduğu belirlenmiştir. 1000 µg/mL konsantrasyonda SOE@FeNP ve Plantago lanceolata L. ekstraktının A549 kanser hücre hattında kontrole karşı nanopartikül ve bitki ekstraktının antikanser aktivitesi sırasıyla % 71,8 - % 84,4 oranında bulunurken 500 µg/mL konsantrasyonda sırasıyla % 65,6 - % 82 oranlarında belirlenmiştir. Plantago lanceolata L. ekstraktının SH SY5Y hücre hattına karşı 1000 µg/mL ve 500 µg/mL konsantrasyonlarda hücre canlılığı % 83,3 - % 73,8 aralığında nörotoksisite etkisi göstermiştir. SOE@FeNP'nin SH-SY5Y hücre hattına karşı 1000 µg/mL ve 500 µg/mL konsantrasyonlarda % 12,4 - % 28,9 nörotoksisite aktivitesi göstermemiştir. Plantago lanceolata L. bitki ekstraktının DPPH giderim aktivitesi % 78,86 ± 0,65 ve SEO@FeNP'nin DPPH giderim aktivitesi % 89,79 ± 0,21 olarak hesaplanmıştır. Plantago lanceolata L. bitki ekstraktının metal şelatlama aktivitesi % 13,52 ± 0,98 ve SEO@FeNP'nin metal şelatlama aktivitesi % 74,40 ± 0,79 olarak hesaplanmıştır. Antimikrobiyal aktivitede SOE@FeNP; Plantago lanceolata L. bitki ekstraktına göre daha yüksek bir etkinlik gösterdiği tespit edilmiştir. Sonuç olarak sentezlenen demir nanopartiküllerin yüksek oranda boya adsorblama kapasitesine sahip olduğunu, antikanser, antioksidan ve antimikrobiyal gibi biyolojik aktiviteye sahip olduğu ortaya konulmuştur.In this study, iron nanoparticle was synthesized from Plantago lanceolata L. water extract by green synthesis method. The structural, morphological and optical properties of SOE@FeNP synthesized by the green synthesis method were characterized by analyzes such as UV-Vis, FTIR, XRD, SEM, EDX, TEM, DLS. In the characterization study of the synthesized NPs, though their dimensions vary, it was determined that it has a cubic structure with an average size of 8 nm. In order to determine the effectiveness of the obtained SOE@FeNP on Congo red dye degradation, a study was conducted with different initial dye concentration, different initial adsorbent, different pH and two different temperatures. In the study in which optimum adsorption conditions were determined, it was found that the highest dye adsorption was with 15 mg SOE@NPs at pH 8, at 25 °C at 50 ppm initial dye contrast. Under these conditions, it has been determined that the nanoparticle has a dye adsorption capacity of 99,9 %. While the anticancer activity of nanoparticle and plant extract was found to be 71,8 % - 84,4 % respectively at a concentration of 1000 µg/mL, SOE@FeNP and Plantago lanceolata L. extract against control in A549 cancer cell line, it was determined at a concentration of 500 µg/mL in the ratio of 65,6 % -82 %, respectively. Cell viability of Plantago lanceolata L. extract against the SH-SY5Y cell line at concentrations of 1000 µg/mL and 500 µg/mL showed a neurotoxicity of 83,3 % - 73,8 %. SOE@FeNP did not show neurotoxicity activity of 12,4 % - 28,9 % against SH-SY5Y cell line at 1000 µg/mL and 500 µg/mL concentrations. DPPH removal activity of Plantago lanceolata L. plant extract was calculated as 78,86 ± 0,65 % and DPPH removal activity of SEO@FeNP as 89,79 ± 0,21 %. The metal chelation activity of Plantago lanceolata L. plant extract was 13,52 ± 0,98 % and the metal chelation activity of SEO@FeNP was 74,40 ± 0,79 %. In antimicrobial activity, SOE@FeNP was found to have a higher efficacy than Plantago lanceolata L. plant extract. As a result, it has been shown that the synthesized iron nanoparticles have high dye adsorption capacity and have biological activity such as anticancer, antioxidant and antimicrobial
