Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. No full textWe have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
Bienestar Digital de los Seniors: Un marco analítico y tecnoemocional de la población española mayor de 55 años
No full textEsta tesis explora la relación entre la población española de mayores de 55 años y la tecnología, haciéndolo desde un punto de vista que va más allá de la frecuencia y el tipo de uso, para conformar un marco analítico y humanista que sea punto de partida para el aumento efectivo de su capacitación y bienestar digital, aspectos ambos que la investigación demuestra que contribuyen a un mayor bienestar subjetivo en la adultez madura y vejez. Desde esta base, la tesis explora las oportunidades que ofrece la propia tecnología para, aplicando los postulados de la Economía de la Conducta y la Teoría de Nudges propuesta por Thaler y Sunstein (2018), analizar el potencial de los nudges o empujones digitales en la mejora de conductas y actitudes digitales destinadas a mejorar habilidades, a reducir tecnoestrés y a aumentar la satisfacción con sus acciones de sociabilidad online. Todo ello con el objetivo de procurarles una integración más activa y un mayor bienestar en una sociedad completamente digitalizada.
La tesis parte del análisis de dos de los costes tecnosociales que más lastran a los mayores (tecnoestrés y soledad no deseada) para explorar, en base al entendimiento profundo de estas inquietantes realidades, las posibilidades que ofrece la propia tecnología como parte integrante en el diseño de procesos, aplicaciones y programas encaminados a paliarlos, aumentando con ello el bienestar subjetivo de los mayores en las últimas etapas de su vida.
Así, la primera parte de la investigación se dedica al análisis de costes tecnosociales.
El capítulo 1 recoge el primero de los estudios verticales de esta investigación, focalizado en el estudio del tecnoestrés en los adultos mayores, al haberse detectado que éstos frecuentemente son excluidos de la investigación, ya que la mayor parte de la investigación se realiza en el ámbito de la empresa, donde además no suele hacerse foco especial en el trabajador más mayor. Se analiza el significado del término, así como sus causas y consecuencias, para recopilar indicaciones de actuación encaminadas a simplificar y reducir fricciones en la actuación tecnológica de los mayores. Parte de este estudio está publicado como colaboración en un capítulo del Libro Blanco de la Silver Economy en España 2024.
El capítulo 2 de esta primera parte, que constituye el segundo de los estudios verticales se focaliza en el estudio uno de los efectos del envejecimiento poblacional que más preocupan: la soledad no deseada. Además de cuantificar el fenómeno, el estudio pone foco en el análisis del impacto de internet, las redes sociales y otras plataformas digitales en la sociabilización actual de los mayores.
La segunda parte de la tesis se focaliza en la exploración de oportunidades de actuación utilizando la tecnología como herramienta y los postulados de la Economía de la Conducta como guía señalando oportunidades de actuación con mayores en un contexto híbrido online/offline.
Así el capítulo 3 recoge un tipo de enfoque exploratorio cuyo objetivo es conformar una visión holística de la relación de los mayores con la tecnología, incluyendo componentes anímicos y afectivos y que permita entender motivaciones, barreras e impulsores del bienestar digital en la población senior en base a la combinación de cuatro elementos de recogida de información: (1) El análisis de sentimientos subyacentes en sus relatos de uso y adaptación mediante técnicas de Text Mining, (2) el perfilado cuantitativo mediante datos recogidos vía encuestas, (3) la valoración de autonomía en el uso, así como la satisfacción percibida con dicha autonomía y (4) la compilación de comentarios cualitativos espontáneos. Este estudio ha sido íntegramente publicado en la Revista Andaluza de Ciencias Sociales, ANDULI.
El capítulo 4, se dirige al estudio de las claves de satisfacción de las relaciones online a partir de un recorrido por la literatura científica para identificar qué claves influyen en el bienestar subjetivo que proporcionan estas relaciones, y por tanto, en el potencial mejor envejecer del adulto mayor. El estudio identifica tres de los aspectos más influyentes en las relaciones online de adultos mayores (intimidad, autorrevelación y generatividad). El estudio se completa con el análisis estadístico del nivel de bienestar de la población española con sus relaciones online a partir de los últimos datos disponibles en el Centro de Investigaciones Sociológicas (CIS), identificando las variables que condicionan la valoración y el nivel de satisfacción de los españoles con dichas relaciones.
El capítulo 5, analiza el potencial de la tecnología como promotora de comportamiento digitales para un mejor envejecer. Partiendo de las conclusiones obtenidas en el análisis de las variables dominantes en la satisfacción con las relaciones online de los españoles, que muestra el peso que tienen las creencias, la tesis plantea un último estudio que, partiendo de los postulados de la Economía de la Conducta analice la potencialidad del nudge digital como elemento de dirección de conductas, tanto individuales como colectivas, hacia actitudes de mayor bienestar digital. Poniendo foco en el nudge digital, sus características y limitaciones así como la caracterización y efecto de los principales nudges digitales que ya han sido aplicados a la mejora del bienestar de los adultos mayores. El epígrafe 5.2.4. El potencial del Smartphone en el cambio conductual corresponde a un resumen del artículo “Nudges y Apps: El rol del smartphone en los cambios conductuales” publicado en la revista Behanomics.
