    Contrapunteos de Lydia Cabrera

    No full text
Even today in the history of Cuban anthropology, little attention is paid to the writer and anthropologist Lydia Cabrera, who has only recently begun to be part of the list of intellectuals in official Cuban culture. However, because of her work and life trajectory, Cabrera can be considered the modern founder of studies on Afro-Cuban religions. The main purpose of this text is to analyse Lydia Cabrera’s ethnographic work based on the idea that there was a ‘counterpoint’, a dialogue, a metaphorical game, between the liminal identity of the author herself – manifested in a racial, cultural, gender, social and political sense – and her interest and dedication to the contribution of slaves and the population of African origin to the history, culture and, ultimately, the identity of their Cuban homeland.

Let Q be a factor of type II1, λ a number in the Jones discrete series {4cosπ/m:m≥3}, and {ei} the Jones projections associated with λ. Denote by A2n and A1n the finite-dimensional von Neumann algebras generated, respectively, by {1,e2,⋯,en} and {1,e1,⋯,en}, with the corresponding traces. The author shows that, for n sufficiently large, the index of the inclusion An=(Q⊗A2n)∗A2nA1n⊂(Q⊗A2n+1)∗A2n+1A1n+1=An+1 is equal to λ (here ∗ denotes the reduced, amalgamated free product of the algebras in question). Using the random matrix model of Voiculescu, he proves that if Q is the von Neumann algebra L(F∞) of the free group with infinitely many generators, then An is isomorphic to L(F∞). The two facts together imply the existence, for any λ in the Jones discrete series, of an irreducible subfactor of L(F∞) of index λ. This constitutes the first example of a nonhyperfinite, non-Γ II1 factor such that its Jones invariant is fully computable (the existence of nonirreducible subfactors of L(F∞) for any index ≥4 is a simple consequence of known results)

The volume collects the expanded and revised versions of the presentations discussed during the conference titled "Politics and Administration. Ethics, Managerialism, and Accountability," organized in honour of Gianfranco D’Alessio. The focus is on administrative leadership, discussed and analysed from two perspectives. Firstly, in relation to the constitutional principles of impartiality and good administration. Secondly, with reference to the relationship it establishes with political bodies. The topic is approached from various angles and multiple perspectives, reflecting the diversity of skills and experiences, both professional and academic, of each author

Holopothrips tabebuia Cabrera & Segarra (Figs 262–265) Holopothrips tabebuia Cabrera & Segarra, 2008: 232. Diagnostic features. Body mostly yellow, with head and pterothorax light brown, abdominal segments VIII–X dark brown; maxillary stylets parallel; one pair of long setae on epimeral region; metanotal sculpture formed by longitudinally elongate reticles, looking almost striate anteriorly; males with pore plates on sternites VII–VIII, two anteroangular plates and one posterior transverse band; female spermatheca s-shaped and not enlarged. Comments. This species resembles H. inquilinus in general appearance, but H. tabebuia has the pronotum with only one pair of long epimeral setae instead of two pairs (Fig. 262), and its metanotum is sculptured with longitudinal and narrow reticles (Fig. 263). The transverse pore plate on sternite VIII is prolonged onto the tergite as in H. inversus and H. paulus. Larvae are pale and without red internal pigmentation. Recently introduced into Florida, H. tabebuia is a common species in the Northern Caribbean, where it possibly originated (Cabrera & Segarra 2008). It has been observed inducing leaf-curling galls in a few Tabebuia (Bignoniaceae) species (Fig. 15), and in some cases, causing the death of young plants (Malumphy & Reid 2017). Material studied. 1 male non-type; United States, Florida, Dade, Hialeah, 7925 NW 2nd Ct., in Tabebuia sp., 20.ii.2002 (Davis, L.), slide with code “E2002-0692”; 1 female non-type; United States, Florida, Dade, Miami, 7061 SW 129th Ave., in Tabebuia sp., 4.iii.2002 (Putland, E.), slide with code “E2002-0691”; both at NMNH.Published as part of Lindner, Mariana F., Ferrari, Augusto, Mound, Laurence A. & Cavalleri, Adriano, 2018, Holopothrips diversity-a Neotropical genus of gall-inducing insects (Thysanoptera, Phlaeothripidae), pp. 1-99 in Zootaxa 4494 (1) on pages 86-88, DOI: 10.11646/zootaxa.4494.1.1, http://zenodo.org/record/144518

We analyze data recorded from October 2010 to September 2011, during the ascending phase of the 24th solar cycle, from an Advanced Ionospheric Sounder-Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia ionosonde and a GPS Ionospheric Scintillation and total electron content (TEC) monitor scintillation receiver, colocated at low latitude in the Southern American longitudinal sector (Tucumán, 26.9°S, 294.6°E, magnetic latitude 15.5°S,Argentina). The site offers the opportunity to perform spread-F and GPS scintillation statistics of occurrence under the southern crest of the equatorial ionospheric anomaly. Spread-F signatures, classified into four types (strong range spread-F (SSF), range spread-F,frequency spread-F (FSF), and mixed spread-F), the phase and amplitude scintillation index (σΦ and S4, respectively), the TEC, and the rate of TEC parameter, marker of the TEC gradients, that can cause scintillations, are considered. The seasonal behavior results as follows: the occurrence of all four types of spread-F is higher in summer and lower in winter, while the occurrence of scintillations peaks at equinoxes in the postsunset sector and shows a minimum in winter. The correspondence between SSF and scintillations seems to be systematic, and a possible correlation between S4 and FSF peaks is envisaged at the terminator. The investigation focused also on two particular periods, from 12 to 16 March 2011 and from 23 to 29 September 2011, both characterized by the simultaneous presence of SSF signatures and scintillation phenomena, allowing to discuss the role of traveling ionospheric disturbances as a strong candidate causing ionospheric irregularities.Fil: Alfonsi, L.. 8 paginas, 6 figuras, 3 tables et al.[EN] The study of pegmatitic rocks related with coarse grained granites in La Cabrera pluton, has allowed to identify an high-Mn lepidolitic mica. The relationship of this mica with biotite al1d feldspar minerals, evidences the important role played by Li, F and Mn rich residual liquids in the geochemical cvolution of late and postmagmatic stages in this plutonic body.[ES] El estudio de las pegmatitas asociadas a los granitos de grano grueso del Plutón de La Cabrera (Sistema Central Español),ha permitido la identificación y caracterización de una variedad de lepidolita manganesífera. Queremos expresar nuestro agradecimiento a José Arroyo, José L. Logarithmic variance profiles and the corresponding f-1 spectra of temperature fluctuations in turbulent Rayleigh-Bénard convection

    No full text
We report experimental results for the temperature variance 2(z) and the corresponding frequency spectra P(f) in turbulent Rayleigh-Bénard convection (RBC) in a cylindrical sample of aspect ratioT= D/L = 1:00 (D = 1:12 m is the diameter and L = 1:12 m the height). The measurements were conducted in the Rayleigh-number range 1011 < Ra < 1:35 1014 and Pr ' 0:8. For Ra = 1:35x1014, 2(z) could be described well by a logarithmic dependence on the vertical position z in a range of z 1 < z < z 2 with z 1 ' 70 and z 2 = 0:1L. Here L=(2Nu) is the thickness of a thin thermal sublayer adjacent to the horizontal plate where the heat flux (denoted by the Nusselt number Nu) is carried mostly by thermal diffusion. In the log layer, we found that the temperature spectra had a significant frequency range over which P(f) f with close to 1. As Ra decreased, increased so that the log layer became thinner. At Ra = 2:05 1011, z 2 < z 1 and therefore there was no range for a log layer. Correspondingly, the temperature spectrum near the horizontal plate did not have the f1 scaling form either
