A psychoanalytical approach of the cult discourse

    No full text
La thèse vise in fine l’écriture logique de la (ou des) discursivité(s) sectaire(s).This research is about contemporary cults and the singular psychological involvement of the cult follower. After having deconstructed the notion of mind manipulation and the idea of a transitive control of the guru toward his/her follower, the author examines the psychological issue of the cult social link, by means of clinical encounters (with current or former followers) and within the paradigm of transference. The author shows that the notion of “cult follower”, which is borrowed from the sociology of religions, is inappropriate to indicate accurately the psychological specificity of the cult experience. In response to the victimological approaches, the conditions of possibility of a non-traumatic discourse are investigated within the relations between the individual subject and the collective subject. In fine, the thesis aims at the writing of the inherent logic of the cult discursivity(ies)

« Poethic writing » and cancer : a psychoanalytical model

This thesis aims to demonstrate how to deal with « unpleasant encounter » with the « Real of cancer and death ». First of all, the « unpleasant encounter » has the distinction of not being symbolized. Therefore, it is impossible and somewhat unthinkable event in patient’s life. Secondly, it brings up to date non-symbolized traumas that come back to patient in an invasive manner. The author attempts to answer this question : is there a psychological method that allows a non-invasive approach to the « Real of cancer and death » ?The author addressed this question by developing a singular and particular psychoanalytical model, described as « poethic writing ». This model was inspired by Jacques Lacan’s concepts of poetic subject and the analyst’s desire, as well as Sigmund Freud’s theory of unconscious mind. This demonstrated that it is possible to border the « Real of cancer and death » using the power of « poethic writing », taken in three levels : [i] transference patient with clinical psychologist, [ii] transference clinical psychologist with research, [iii] transference patient with « poethic writing ». This model also showed that the clinical work and research can not be dissociated when we discuss about psychoanalysis, subject, unconscious and the « Real of cancer and death »

The author, a clinician psychologist of freudo - lacanian psychoanalytical orientation, tries to build a model of authority known as “subjectivant” in its clinical, educational and institutional implications, model directly issued from both his clinical and institutional practices with mentally deficient patients, and his experience as an university teacher

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

The child’s learning : a pedagogical act ? : Contributions of the clinical and psychoanalytical approaches

Throughout my career as a teacher, I noticed an almost imperceptible but real decline in interest for the pedagogy. When I began my career, in the 70s, the notion of “dyslexia” appeared. Over the years, the vocabulary diversified bit by bit and the impact of the terms was reinforced continuously: « dyslexia », « dysphasia », « dyspraxia »… Today terms like this are part of the parents’ vocabulary to describe the difficulties of the child. As a result they stigmatize those learning difficulties into medical terms as “disorder” and “dysfunction”. Furthermore, the demands of some associations of parents with autistic children for a pedagogical coverage of these interrogate us about their conception which seems to us very remote from an ethical approach. All these descriptions motivated me to put forward the question if a pedagogical act is still possible in the original Lacanian sense. At the end of my thesis I postulate that there can’t be an other way of living pedagogy, than the way of living it by the act of offering and the event and the creation. Those three have to be based on a pedagogy of desire and encounter instead of a pedagogy of diagnoses and recommendations. A pedagogy of diagnoses and recommendations would end up in the implementation of evaluations which would lead to the conclusion of a no-ambiguity of language and this would take away the idea of interpretation.I end up my research by what seams fundamental to me concerning the child’s learning in the near future: the political effort of the transmission

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

(H)eros : saving the Other ! From tropmatisme to troumatisme

Our research is part of a professional practice with those whom power and the prevailing discourse refer to as the "Heroes of the Nation." Whether they are firefighters or military soldiers, they are committed to rescuing and sacrificing their lives if the mission requires it. Confrontation with the unpredictable in operational situations characterizes these so-called "heroic" vocations. Our research seeks to account for their encounter with an unforeseen event that shatters and reveals a blind spot to the subject. A blind spot from which the question of the act sometimes radically emerges. The theoretical framework of psychoanalysis, from Freud to Lacan, marks the path of our reflection. From this framework, we defend the idea that in the face of the ineluctable of death and the unspeakable of the Real (Réel), every subject is confronted with the necessity to construct a narrative based on their unconscious weavings. Thus, this path of aid and assistance to the Other is considered as one possible construction among the many others in which a subject inscribes themselves for different destinies. The object of our questioning is not summoned to the level of "why" these vocations exist, but specifically focuses on what goes fails in this edification and leads certain subjects to an impasse. Incorporated into these heroized bodies that produce uniform and foster a "esprit de corps" that invites them to become One, are these so-called "heroes" always able to save themselves from the unpredictable fragility of the colossus with feet of clay: the grand Other? This place of the Other experienced in hindsight as an emptied space. The theoretical path also includes the original framing of Jean Allouch, who further advances our line of thinking and leads us to consider failure as the starting point from which the subject's freedom can be exercised. Failure, as a possibility for openness in subjective construction, becomes the focus that should be considered. It sheds light on this blind spot from which an impasse becomes an opening. From this opening, the subject would then be able to "experience" or at least feel a space of freedom. It is a space on the edge where some stand still. We posit that this freedom, experienced as staggering in the register of trauma, is nonetheless capable of revealing itself as an operating freedom in the unconscious and specific register of transference
