Abstract:
Based on a detailed analysis of the text, the author seeks to justify the use of the term “lyric novel” to refer to La mano del amo by Tomás Eloy Martínez. The article shows that this novel is a narration marked by the affirmation of subjectivity and a fundamental innovation in the treatment of time. The author argues that in the text Tomás Eloy Martínez challenged the “obligation” to limit one’s work to a specific mode of writing that the reader seems to impose on well known writers.

BABUR
Zakhiriddin Muhammad Babur is a historical figure, king and poet who founded the Great Mughal Empire in India. His work Baburnama is a unique source that describes the political and social life, geographical location, culture, as well as his own experiences and feelings of the peoples who lived and worked in the 16th century. He left a unique legacy as a literary critic. In his book “Babur”, Eiji Mano compares Babur to Nobunaga Oda, the hero of Japan at the time. Babur, the founder of the Mughal Empire in India, was born in Uzbekistan, and the secret of Babur\u27s popularity at that time lies in the book Baburnama . In “Baburnama”, Babur described the real image of the Silk Road, in which the political and social way of life of his time originated and grew. The author of this book, Eiji Mano, was born in 1939 and graduated from the literature department of Kyoto University. Honorary Professor of the University, received the title of Doctor. He mainly conducted research in the field of the history of Central Asia. He is currently a Professor at Ryukoku University, Professor Emeritus and Doctor of Kyoto University. In 2001, he was awarded the Japan Film Academy Award for his book “Babur and His Time”. We consider it necessary to refer to the translation of his brochure Babur in this issue. After all, the assessment of our ancestor Zakhiriddin Muhammad Babur and his works, as well as the opinion of foreign scientists should not go unnoticed for us
Assessing (a)symmetry in multilingualism : The case of Mano and Kpelle in Guinea
Aims and objectives: The paper studies Kpelle–Mano bilingualism in the broader context of local multilingual repertoires and assesses symmetry in the patterns of language use. Methodology: We combine natural speech sampling with ethnographic observations, interviews, sociolinguistic surveys, and elicitation tasks. Data and analysis: The data analyzed includes 62 questionnaire responses, targeted elicitation with 21 individuals, as well as corpus collection and ethnographic observations over the course of fieldwork from 2008 onwards. Findings: Neither Mano nor Kpelle has an overt prestige value. Marriage patterns and economic activity are symmetrical, and both languages can be in certain cases chosen as a means of interethnic communication. However, bilingualism is typically unreciprocated, and the Mano speak Kpelle more often than the other way round. Contact-induced change is almost exclusively unidirectional, with Kpelle influencing Mano. We suggest relative population size as the main explanatory factor. In contrast, both Mano and Kpelle are in an asymmetric relationship with Maninka, which is frequently used by urban Mano and Kpelle speakers. Even if some Maninka claim to speak Kpelle to a certain extent, they rarely use it in real life. Originality: This paper is a report on a previously unstudied multilingual setting. We stress the theoretical and the empirical importance of the patrilect. In addition to its being the defining identity feature, the patrilect is also the main predictor defining the language choice in communication and the volume of the repertoire. Significance: We applied long-term participant observation in various social settings to obtain a fine-grained account of the rules governing language choice, which a typical background questionnaire would overlook. We also sampled natural and elicited speech of L1 and L2 speakers of Mano and Kpelle, a method that yields better results than proficiency tests because it captures interference in grammar, which has far-reaching consequences for contacting languages.Peer reviewe
An Author Network to Classify Open Online Discussions
International audienceCoordination between contributors in online communities, is known to rely on several concurrent modalities, including both code- or artifact-mediated interactions and direct dialectic exchange through forums, issues trackers or else instant messaging tools. Even though the latter form has been subject to various inquiries, direct approaches that would help communities and moderators distinguish between gossip exchanges and serious debates - notably in order to avoid "town council" discussions, as criticized by Cox - are still largely missing. However, although discussion topics vary, any discussion shape, seen as a graph, is typically a tree, regardless of its theme. Using this graph-theoretic framework, we attempt to identify categories of discussions taking into account not only the properties of underlying trees, issued from the graph theory, but also the expertise status of the participants and the relationships existing between them as well. We establish these relationships by detecting the direction of exchanges between two contributors and model them through an author graph, as the ones employed in studies of social networks. Furthermore, the motifs - triads - in author graphs together with quantitative data derived from discussion trees and status analysis allows us to determine a classification of discussions from a benchmark Reddit discussion forum. We apply a clustering algorithm based on the author networks of threads, which highlights tree distinct groups. To better understand the dynamics of those classes, we implement the relational event model, which emphasizes three effects, which influence in different ways the groups. The result obtained may possibly be used in decision-making by forum moderators and communities
