The debates about projective techniques have been mostly about their theoretical and psychometrical limitations, and about the value of continued use of these techniques. On the other hand, the methodological and theoretical limitations of projective techniques may be present also in the other psychological tests. To reveal the difference among psychological tests and projective techniques it is important to evaluate their differential role in the diagnostic process: psychological tests allow for the measurement and classification of behaviors, while projective techniques reveal signs that require interpretation based on the clinical history of the person
The neuropsychology of grammatical gender: An introduction
Six contributions form the special section
that Cortex devoted to the neurospcyhology of grammatical gender processing. First, the evidence on grammatical gender retrieval and production provided by these studies concern both unimpaired and language-impaired speakers (namely, aphasics and Alzheimer patients). Second, the authors investigated gender processing in a fairly wide range of languages, namely Semitic languages (i.e., Hebrew), Romance languages (i.e., Spanish and Italian), Slavic languages (i.e., Polish) and Germanic languages (i.e., Dutch and German).Third, different methodologies are employed to tap either comprehension or production processes: on-line tasks such as visual lexical decision making and self-paces reading, off-line tasks such as grammaticality judgement, and picture naming. Lastly, although the focus of this special section of Cortex is on grammatical gender, some of these studies deal with the relationships and processing differences between gender and another relevant syntactic feature, number

The code practice for Italian psychologists: Updating the document to meet with the changing zeitgeist of the profession
Code practices by default change together with the development of the relevant discipline, the updating of societal frames of reference and the moulding of social, cultural and judicial constructs. The Code practice for Italian Psychologists was launched in1998; it has remained virtually unaltered to date. Several arguments call for its updating. Professional and academic bodies should openly discuss its upgrading and compare their respective stance to come to a shared document, aiming at guiding the activities of psychologists as well as steering the course of Psychology for the next future

Convergenza delle evidenze e molteplicità delle ipotesi: La verifica dell'ipotesi nulla nella ricerca psicologica
The discussion on the method of the Null Hypothesis Significance Testing
(NHST) has been generally restricted to the statistical domain. However, the NHST is
a method of knowledge acquisition that is applicable to all levels of scientific investigation:
(1) theoretical elaboration; (2) phenomena measurement; (3) data analysis. The
alternative approaches to the NHST must be applicable to all levels. The aim of this
review is to describe two different methodologies (converging evidence and multiple
hypotheses) which allow achieving valid results at any stage of psychological research
