Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Ductile damage assessment of Ti6Al4V, 17-4PH and AlSi10Mg for additive manufacturing
A great research effort has been spent during the latest years in the characterization of additive manufacturing (AM) alloys, mostly focused on the analysis of microstructure and on the assessment of mechanical strength, especially under high cycle fatigue loads. Post-process treatments have been also investigated, as methods to further improve the AM materials performance. On the contrary, still fewer data are available on AM materials ultimate static strength. The present paper is intended to present a comprehensive experimental and numerical static characterization of Ti6Al4V, 17-4PH, and AlSi10Mg alloys processed via selective laser melting. A dedicated set of specimen geometries was devised to induce desired multiaxial stress state, and experiments were carried out both on as built and machined AM samples. The results were employed to identify the constitutive behavior of the materials and to calibrate four different ductile damage models. The failure prediction capabilities of the tuned models were thoroughly analyzed and discussed. The overall mechanical properties and the ductility of the investigated alloys were estimated based on the experimental results and on the information provided by the tuned models. Additionally, a comparison with data collected on the corresponding wrought materials, performing the same experiments, was carried out. The results showed a limited reduction of yield and failure strength and a significant reduction in the ductility of AM materials with respect to their wrought counterparts. Moreover, for the less ductile alloys, a weaker dependence of the strain to fracture from the stress state was observed
Platelet function and therapeutic applications in dogs: Current status and future prospects
Significant progress has been made in the functional characterization of canine platelets in the last two decades. The role of canine platelets in hemostasis includes their adhesion to the subendothelium, activation, and aggregation, leading to primary clot formation at the site of injury. Studies on canine platelet function and advancements in laboratory testing have improved the diagnosis and understanding of platelet-related disorders as well as the knowledge of the mechanisms behind these diseases. This review focuses on the most recent discoveries in canine platelet structure, function, and disorders; and discusses the efficacy of various tests in the diagnosis of platelet-related disorders. With the relatively recent discovery of angiogenetic and reparative effects of growth factors found in platelets, this review also summarizes the use of canine platelet-rich plasma (PRP) alone or in association with stem cells in regenerative therapy. The characterization of proteomic and lipidomic profiles and development of platelet gene therapy in veterinary species are areas of future study with potential for major therapeutic benefits
Ductility assessment of a 17-4PH steel through simple multiaxial tests
The present work summarizes the results of an experimental campaign aimed at assessing the ductility of a wrought 17-4PH steel alloy. A simple specimen reproducing multiaxial stress states through a universal testing machine is selected. A Finite Element Model (FEM) for each test is setup to extract the local values of stress and strain in the most critical point on the onset of failure. A Digital Image Correlation (DIC) technique is employed to assess the strain field estimated via FEM. The collected data are used to analyse the material ductility, calculating the triaxiality and deviatoric parameter at the fracture strain. The proposed tests fall in the range of low triaxialities, which are less investigated in the literature. The results obtained are compared with the prediction of a damage model, previously calibrated on the material through more conventional tests. The prediction accuracy of the damage model was fully confirmed by the outcome of the new tests. Eventually, the possibility of replacing some of the conventional tests used for calibration with the proposed specimen is explored
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.
