We analyzed mitotic and meiotic chromosomes of {Palinurus gilchristi} Stebbing, 1900, a South African spiny lobster exploited by intensive fishery activity. So far the chromosome complement of this species is unknown. Mitotic and meiotic chromosomes from testis tissue were studied. Metaphase plates, obtained by air-drying techniques were Wright’s stained and C-banded.
Late prophases/metaphases I bivalents showed cross, ring and dumb-bell figures; some unpaired chromosomes, completely C-positive, were present. To study the chromosome number, mitotic and metaphase II chromosomes and metaphase I bivalents were counted. Numerical variability was observed (2n=120 ÷132, n=60 ÷ 72), that could be due to the presence of heterochromatic, asynaptic B chromosomes. Two types of Bs have been identified depending on their size: small and micro Bs; their total number varied from 3 to 7.
It is noteworthy that in the two other congeneric species, {P. elephas} and {P. mauritanicus} we studied, B chromosomes with similar morphology have been Among Decapoda, B chromosomes have been found in two Nephropidae species, {Nephrops norvegicus} and {Homarus americanus}
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
No full textThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Palinurus elephas (Fabricius, 1787) and P. mauritanicus Gruvel, 1911 are two Mediterranean spiny lobster species living at different depths.. The knowledge on the karyology of Decapoda are scanty owing to technical constraints in obtaining good chromosomal preparations. To date cytogenetic analysis by chromosome banding are very few. In the contest of a cytogenetic and molecular study on the two Mediterranean Palinuridae we present a characterization of mitotic and meiotic chromosomes of these species by different staining techniques. Chomosomal preparations have been obtained from testicular and somatic tissues by a direct method. Heterochromatin has been localized by C-banding. This technique allowed also a sharp differentiation of chromosomes, a clear identification of meiotic figures and the detection of supernumerary chromosomes in both species. B chromosomes are variable in number, very small, completely heterochromatic and in meiosis I they are often asynaptic. Their presence could account for the variability recorded in determining the chromosome number. The heterochromatin analysis has been deepened by fluorochrome banding. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

Palinurus mauritanicus è una delle due specie di aragoste presenti in Mediterraneo dove vive a profondità maggiori rispetto a Palinurus elephas.
Le conoscenze sulla cariologia dei Crostacei Decapodi sono scarse, nella famiglia Palinuridae di 6 specie sono note le dimensioni del genoma e di 3 specie è stato descritto il complemento cromosomico. Nell’ambito di uno studio sulle caratteristiche citogenetiche e molecolari delle aragoste mediterrane abbiamo studiato i cromosomi mitotici e meiotici di Palinurus mauritanicus e i risultati sono stati confrontati con quelli già ottenuti in P. elephas.
I preparati cromosomici sono stati ottenuti dal tessuto testicolare e dall’epatopancreas con un metodo diretto che elimina i residui citoplasmatici e ha permesso l’applicazione delle tecniche di bandeggio C e in fluorescenza.
Il complemento cromosomico di P. mauritanicus è stato studiato mediante l’analisi di di metafasi mitotiche e meiotiche. Il numero diploide è stato ricavato dal conteggio di mitosi somatiche e spermatogoniali ed è compreso tra 113 e 130. La variabilità numerica osservata è attribuibile alla presenza di cromosomi soprannumerari. Tali cromosomi sono di ridotta dimensione, eterocromatici e riconoscibili per la mancanza di appaiamento meiotico. In metafase I sono riconoscibili fino a 8 cromosomi con queste caratteristiche. La presenza di cromosomi B è stata già evidenziata in altre specie di Decapodi tra cui P elephas. Il numero dei bivalenti in metafase I è compreso tra 52 e 62.
Inoltre è stata studiata la distribuzione e composizione in basi delle regioni eterocromatiche mediante colorazione con i fluorocromi DAPI e Quinacrina, che evidenziano il DNA ricco in Adenina-Timina e Cromomicina A3, specifico per il DNA ricco in Citosina e Guanina. Sono state ottenute bande specifiche per ciascun fluorocromo ed inoltre è stata evidenziata la presenza di alcuni piccoli cromosomi interamente fluorescenti dopo colorazione con la CMA3

No full textPurpose – This study investigates the views of Italian aquaculture production science students, in their role of future operators, on the application of circular economy strategies.
Design/methodology/approach – A key step in the development of professional knowledge is to solicit the opinions of the future operators in the aquaculture sector. The authors used the Q methodology to assess the perceptions of the students on four different knowledge dimensions of the CE: operations, culture and organization, products and services, and ecosystem.
Findings – Four discourses emerge from the results, representing the respondents’ views on the CE. The first discourse considers CE as business strategy applicable to products and services, the second a corporate mission and the fourth an operational efficiency strategy. Finally, the third discourse views CE as a multidimensional concept.
Research limitations/implications – This study contributes to the scientific and institutional debate on how to accelerate the aquaculture’s circular transition. First and foremost, it offers insights to guide policy makers in the development of appropriate knowledge and information systems. Second, it offers the opportunity
to improve training programmes to enable current students to be prepared for the future challenges.
Originality/value – The results reflect a different perceived knowledge of CE among future operators, whose opinions are little explored in the literature
