    Il seguente lavoro di tesi dottorale si pone come obiettivo principale lo studio delle commedie spagnole in quattro atti, di autore conosciuto e di paternità dubbia, scritte tra la fine degli anni 70 e l’inizio degli anni 80 del XVI secolo. Si cercherà di rivalorizzare questo tipo di scrittura drammatica, considerato da buona parte della critica come un “fracaso” (fallimento), al fine di sottolineare il ruolo chiave che svolge nel lungo e travagliato processo che porta alla nascita della posteriore Comedia nueva barocca. Da una prima parte descrittiva, dove si delineeranno le coordinate generali del teatro degli ultimi 25 anni del secolo e della scrittura in quattro atti, servendosi anche delle informazioni raccolte nelle testimonianze dell’epoca, si passerà all’analisi approfondita del corpus preso in considerazione, fondamentale per i fini proposti. All’esposizione dettagliata delle caratteristiche stilistiche e formali delle commedie del periodo, tra le quali spiccano l’uso della polimetria, uno dei cardini dello stesso arte nuevo, seguirà una proposta di studio, basata sul metodo della segmentazione del testo teatrale, utile per analizzare il modo particolare di ripartizione della materia drammatica in queste opere e formulare varie ipotesi sulle possibili ragioni che hanno spinto i drammaturghi a impiegare la formula in quattro atti e non più quella in cinque atti classici

    Damage analyses of concrete dams subject to alkali-silica reaction

    The durability of concrete can be reduced by several chemical phenomena, among them the alkali-silica reaction (ASR) plays a fundamental role. Such reaction can have a severe impact on structure safety and functioning. This work deals with the evaluation of the effects of ASR in existing concrete dams. To this purpose, a phenomenological two-phase isotropic damage model, describing the degradation of concrete, is presented and used to simulate the behaviour of concrete dams affected by ASR. This model takes into account the simultaneous influence of both humidity and temperature through two uncoupled diffusion anal-yses: the heat diffusion analysis and the moisture diffusion analysis. The role of the temperature and humidity fields variations on the development of the deleterious reactions is discussed in the case of an arch dam. The numerical analyses, performed with the pro-posed thermo-hydro-damage model, allowed to predict the structural behaviour both in terms of reaction extent and increase of crest displacements

    The alkali–silica reaction is a chemical phenomenon that, by inducing expansion and the formation of cracks in concrete, can have a severe impact on the safety and functioning of existing concrete dams. Starting from a phenomenological two-phase isotropic damage model describing the degradation of concrete, the effects of alkali-silica reaction in an existing concrete gravity dam are evaluated and compared with real monitoring data. Considering the real temperature and humidity variations, the influence of both temperature and humidity are considered through two uncoupled diffusion analyses: a heat diffusion analysis and a moisture diffusion analysis. The numerical analyses performed with the two-phase damage model allow for prediction of the structural behaviour, both in terms of reaction extent and increase of crest displacements. The crest displacements are compared with the real monitoring data, where reasonably good agreement is obtained

    The present study focuses on the axial characterization of the Roll-N-Cage isolation device. The procedure consists into two main steps: (i) laboratory investigations of a scaled prototype of the Roll- N-Cage system for evaluating the mechanical cyclic response to axial compression and tension; (ii) the development of a numerical model for investigating the reproduction of the strong unsymmetrical axial response of the device. The proposed numerical model reposes on a modified form of the Wang and Wen model by supplementing it with user identified scaling functions

    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods
