Raffaele Colapietra offre un excursus del contesto storico-politico nazionale e internazionale in cui si è inserita la nascita della città; ne illustra esaurientemente le dinamiche, il ruolo dei protagonisti e la vita politica dei primi secoli. Cristiana Pasqualetti analizza l'intensa vita artistica dell'Aquila medievale. Attraverso il percorso dei maestri, dei committenti e delle opere si illustra l'inserimento della città nei più ampi circuiti nazionali e internazionali dell'arte medievale. Analogamente, Mario Centofanti ricostruisce per l'architettura aquilana fino al 1500 l'intenso processo di costruzione e renovatio, soffermandosi sugli edifici più rappresentativi, di cui ha descritto le architetture e il complesso ruolo civile di specchio e immagine del potere che essi hanno ricoperto nei se-coli di ascesa dell'Aquila nel mondo medievale e rinascimentale. Infine, Orlando Antonini propone una lettura accurata e intensa della funzione centrale che l'architettura religiosa ha avuto nella vita dell'Aquila fin dalla sua fondazione e per i secoli successivi
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
No full textWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Karier questions whether current R&D policy, especially the research and experimentation tax credit, can contribute to closing the gap between nondefense expenditures on R&D in the United States and such expenditures in other countries, such as Japan and Germany. He also explores possible changes to our current R&D policy to make it more effective.
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
No full textThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Risk of Rhabdomyolysis Associated with Dexmedetomidine Use over the Past 10 Years: Insights from the EudraVigilance Database
No full text: Dexmedetomidine, a selective α2-adrenergic agonist, is favoured in intensive care for its minimal respiratory depression. This study evaluated the reporting frequency of rhabdomyolysis with dexmedetomidine compared to midazolam and propofol using the European pharmacovigilance database Eudravigilance. We conducted an observational, retrospective analysis of Individual Case Safety Reports (ICSRs) from 1 January 2013, to 31 December 2023. Primary and secondary outcomes included the reporting frequencies of rhabdomyolysis and its indicative signs and symptoms, respectively. We retrieved 19,268 ICSRs, of which 364 reported rhabdomyolysis associated with dexmedetomidine (3.8%), midazolam (10.2%), propofol (76.9%), or combinations thereof (9.1%). Dexmedetomidine showed a significantly lower reporting frequency of rhabdomyolysis compared to propofol (ROR, 0.32; 95% CI, 0.19-0.55) but no significant difference compared to midazolam. Subgroup analyses revealed higher frequencies in males, especially with propofol. Despite limitations such as underreporting, our findings suggest dexmedetomidine poses a lower rhabdomyolysis risk than propofol, supporting its safe use for sedation in high-risk patients. It is important to note that due to the retrospective design of this study our findings are indicative of correlations rather than causation. Continuous monitoring and further studies are recommended to validate these results
