LITERARY HISTORIOGRAPHY AND THE PROBLEM OF THE AUTHOR: MIHAI IOVĂNEL’S “HISTORY” AND RECENT DEVELOPMENTS IN AUTHORSHIP STUDIES
Full text linkLiterary Historiography and the Problem of the Author: Mihai Iovănel’s History and Recent Developments in Authorship Studies. The present paper examines the dynamics between literary historiography and authorship studies and the way in which these problems related to Mihai Iovănel’s recent History. Ciorogar argues that authorship theories have always determined the workings of canonicity. Furthermore, the metamorphoses of literary histories could be viewed, he insists, as a series of conceptual revolutions. Consequently, arguments related to authorship have given rise to both new fields of research and disciplines. Finally, Ciorogar also suggests that the evolution of literary criticism and theory is more or less coeval with the history of auctorial models.

REZUMAT. Istoriografia literară și problema autorului: Istoria lui Mihai Iovănel și noi dezvoltări în studiile de auctorialitate. Lucrarea de față examinează dinamica relațiilor dintre istoriografia literară și studiile de auctorialitate, precum și modul în care aceste două problemă se raportează la recenta Istorie publicată de Mihai Iovănel. Teza principală e aceea conform căreia teoriile auctoriale ar determina modurile de funcționare a canonicității. Mai mult, metamorfozele istoriilor literare ar putea fi privite ca o serie de revoluții conceptuale. În consecință, argumentele și dezbaterile centrate în jurul conceptului de autor au dat naștere atât unor noi domenii de cercetare, cât și altor discipline. În cele din urmă, textul sugerează că evoluția criticii și a teoriei literare reprezintă, astfel, istoria modelelor auctoriale.

Full text linkAuthorship Studies and Romanticism. In recent debates about Romantic authorship, scholars seem to be dived on the question of creative subjectivity. As the death and return of the author conundrum rightfully demonstrates, theoretical discussions circle around the problem of authoriality. Indeed, literary studies are in desperate need of a new research methodology. In this paper, I will argue that, by adopting a new ecology of authorial ascension, the academic community will not only be able to decisively abandon 20th-century vocabularies (postmodern, poststructuralist, or postcolonial), but it will also gain insights into the workings of Romantic-period definitions of geniality.
REZUMAT. Teorii auctoriale și romantismul. În dezbaterile dintre cele mai recente, teoria auctorialității romantice - și, prin extensie, problema subiectivității creatoare - pare să polemizeze câmpul academic în cel puțin două tabere. Mai mult, aș zice că ipoteza „morții și întoarcerii autorului” demonstrează, fără dram de îndoială, faptul că discuțiile teoretice sunt mereu purtate în jurul problemei autorității/auctorialității. Tocmai în acest sens, e limpede că, într-o epocă a globalizării digitale, studiile literare au nevoie de o nouă metodologie (una care să depășească stadiul cercetărilor produse în ultimul deceniu al veacului trecut). În această lucrare, voi susține, așadar, faptul că, adoptând o nouă ecologie a înălțării auctoriale, comunitatea academică va reuși nu doar să abandoneze, în mod definitiv, terminologia din cea de-a doua jumătate a secolului XX (postmodernă, poststructuralistă și/sau postcolonială), ci, mai mult, că va obține noi rezultate în ceea ce privește definiția genialității romantice.

A HERMENEUTICAL READING OF A POSTMODERN BRITISH NOVEL. TIME AND NARRATIVE IN DAVID LODGE\u27S “THINKS...”
Full text linkA Hermeneutical Reading of a Postmodern British Novel. Time and Narrative in David Lodge\u27s “Thinks...”. The present paper investigates two aspects of a postmodern British novel. From a narratological perspective, we will examine the ways in which time - as a theme, on the one hand, and as a fictional issue, on the other - is constructed in David Lodge\u27s “Thinks…”. Leaving behind post-structuralist instruments of analysis (deconstructive reading practices), the article will argue in favor of a more nuanced approach by showing the advantages of utilizing hermeneutical and phenomenological instruments in exploring postmodernist techniques of emplotment.
REZUMAT. O lectură hermeneutică a unui roman britanic postmodern. Timp și narațiune în romanul “Thinks...” semnat de David Lodge. Lucrarea de față investighează două aspecte ale unui roman britanic postmodern. Adoptând o perspectivă naratologică, vom examina modurile în care timpul - atât ca temă, dar romanul și ca problematică literară - e construit în romnul “Thinks...” semnat de David Lodge. Lăsând la o parte instrumentele post-structuraliste (și, în special, lectura deconstrucționistă), articolul demonstrează avantajele utilizării unor instrumente hermeneutice și/sau fenomenologice în vederea explorării tehnicilor de compoziție postmoderniste.

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Full text linkThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Full text link“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Full text linkWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
Full text linkWe conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

OVERCOMING AUTHORSHIP AND THE END OF LIBERAL MEANING. TOWARD A WORLD-SYSTEMIC THEORY OF LITERARY PRODUCTION
Full text linkOvercoming Authorship and the End of Liberal Meaning: Toward a World-Systemic Theory of Literary Production. We explore the transformations of authorship in the algorithmic age, investigating literary production from a world-systems perspective in the larger context of both posthumanism and computational regimes of meaning, questioning the interpretive methods grounded on semiotics and liberal theory. Lightly drawing on various theoretical frameworks, our intervention offers a swift but comprehensive and historicist framework for conceptually understanding authorship beyond the limits of both ethico-political autonomy and poststructuralist intertextuality. Our central concept—the overcoming of authorship—describes a trans-individual, oscillatory, and eco-technological configuration of authorship shaped by affective systems, platform dynamics, and epistemological shifts located well beyond the confines of postmodernism.
REZUMAT. Depășirea autorului și sfârșitul sensului liberal: spre o teorie a producției literare din perspectiva analizei sistemelor-lume. Această lucrare examinează transformările auctorialității în epoca algoritmică, situând producția literară în cadrul analizei sistemelor-lume, dar și în raport cu postumanismul și regimurile computaționale ale semnificației. Punem sub semnul întrebării practicile interpretative liberale fundamentate pe semiotică argumentând necesitatea de a conceptualiza autorul atât dincolo de autonomia etico-politică, cât și de intertextualitatea poststructuralistă. Mobilizând, în mod selectiv, o serie de tradiții teoretice, intervenția noastră propune o lectură istoricistă asupra condițiilor în schimbare ale auctorialității. Centrală acestei lecturi este ideea de depășire a autorului: definim auctorialitatea ca o nouă formațiune trans-individuală, oscilantă și eco-tehnologică, produsă prin intermediul economiilor afective, a dinamicilor de platformă, dar și în urma transformărilor epistemologice ce depășesc granițele postmodernismului.
