Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

Acufeni: case-report di trattamento integrato con omeomesoterapia e agopuntura
No full textIntroduzione: L'acufene o tinnitus viene connotato come un'esperienza soggettiva del sentire suoni di varia natura ed intensità in una o entrambe le orecchie, senza che ci sia stata una stimolazione sonora esterna. In particolare l'acufene soggettivo, è avvertito solo da chi ne fa esperienza, può essere associato a diminuzione dell'udito, e talora a una percezione esasperata di suoni o rumori (iperacusia). Può insorgere in maniera acuta o graduale e avere un andamento a rapida risoluzione o tendere alla cronicizzazione (Martucci 2013). In Medicina l'acufene viene collocato in un quadro generale, che può essere riferito a svariate condizioni di base, tra cui quelle prevalenti sono riferibili a condizioni non facilmente inquadrabili da punto di vista diagnostico (acufeni idiopatici). Per differenziare l'acufene occorre effettuare un'anamnesi accurata e distinguere acufeni ad esordio lento da acufeni ad esordio repentino (acufeni ad alta o bassa intensità, acufeni che durano giorni, mesi o anni) e infine i segni e i sintomi di accompagnamento che configurano il quadro clinico proprio di ciascun paziente. Materiali e Metodi: Il paziente trattato, un uomo di 53 anni, con APR positiva per pregresso trauma in regione facciale sinistra accorso nel 2010, è giunto alla nostra osservazione riferendo acufene all'orecchio destro insorto a partire dal 2014 con decorso recidivante e intervallato a periodi di benessere. Precedentemente ha effettuato alcune valutazioni ed esami strumentali specialistici con esito non dirimente la causa. Il sintomo viene descritto come scroscio persistente che si esacerba dopo l'esercizio fisico e in condizioni di alta pressurizzazione. La diagnosi è stata posta sulla base dell'anamnesi e dell'esame obiettivo, mentre la gravità del disturbo è stata stabilita in base al risultato del Tinnitus Handicap Inventory, di cui abbiamo confrontato i risultati a metà e a fine trattamento. Per il trattamento sono stati utilizzati aghi d'agopuntura HWATO da 0,25 x 25mm sui punti distali (24 GV, 20 GV, 5 TE, 3 TE, 40 GB, 41 GB, 4 LI, 3 LR)e infiltrazioni periauricolari secondo Pistor con aghi da mesoterapia 30G x 4mm dei seguenti prodotti omotossicologici: 1fl GELSEMIUM, 1fl COCCULUS, 1fl SPIGELON, 1fl ARNICA COMPOSITUM, 0,5 cc LIDOCAINA. Il ciclo di trattamento ha avuto la durata di 10 settime con una frequenza di un trattamento a settimana. Sono state utilizzate le segeunti scale di valutazione: Tinnitus Handicap Inventory; Visual Analogue Scale; Scala per lo stress percepito. Risultati: Alla fine del ciclo di trattamento abbiamo ottenuto una riduzione statisticamente significativa del punteggio relativo a tutte le scale utilizzate. La Tinnitus Handicap Inventory da un punteggio di 46 (Grado 3) ad un punteggio di 20 (grado 2). La Visual Analogue Scale si è ridotta da un punteggio di 7 ad u punteggio di 5. La Scala per lo stress percepito si è ridotta da un punteggio di 14 ad un punteggio di 7. Conclusione: L'obiettivo della nostra ricerca è capire se il trattamento integrato degli acufeni con tecniche di terapia non convenzionale, possa essere un valido supporto nella terapia di un sintomo, qual è l'acufene, molto invalidante e poco resposivo alle tradizionali terapie mediche. Alla luce dei risultati ottenuti in questo caso clinico, possiamo asserire che tale approccio terapeutico, pur necessitando di ulteriore integrazione su un numero maggiore di pazienti, possa essere un valido approccio clinico-terapeutico per limitare la disabilità associata alla presenza dell'acufen

No full textWe have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
