No full textIn his study, the author aims to discuss the ideas regained from the lines of few microtexts documented in the pages of a brochure, named Limba românească. Părerea unuia care n-a învăţat la şcoala românescă [The Romanian language. Opinions of someone who didn’t study at a Romanian school] and published by the politician P. Nemoianu. The fragments he selected are primarily linguistic, choosing several topics concerning the condition and the nature of Romanian language during the interwar period. These linguistic notes, somehow subjective, were not discussed in specialized studies until now, which determined us to investigate them furthermore. The main purpose of the analysis is to see which were the options in acquiring the Romanian language and how it was perceived in relation with other cultural languages (Latin or French, for example), in the aforementioned period.

No full textIn his study, the author proposes a discussion upon the spoken Romanian language, as it was registered within the pages of a bilingual grammar appeared in Wien at the end of the 18th century, more exactly, in Ioan Piuariu-Molnar’s Gramatică germano-română (1788) ‘Romanian-German Grammar’. Beyond the descriptive characteristics of the grammar, within its pages, there is enclosed a range of conversational sentences (Some dialogues to express many ways of previous moods), where spoken language facts can be revealed, along the state of the Romanian language from that period, which can help us understand the most popular subjects or greetings of those times. Beside these aspects, the presenting method continues to be interesting, faithful sometimes to some models which overtook the Western Europe
LE REDOUBLEMENT SYNTAXIQUE DES ADVERBES RELATIFS-INTERROGATIFS ET INDÉFINIS (TEMPS, MANIÈRE ET QUANTITÉ) PAR LES ADVERBES D’ALTÉRITÉ CORRESPONDANTS EN ROUMAIN ACTUEL
Get PDFThe Syntactic Doubling of Relative-interrogative and Indefinite (Temporal, Modal and Quantitative Adverbials) through Corresponding Alterity Adverbials in Present-day Romanian. This study represents a continuation of a previous study (Chircu 2020b); it discusses the distribution of (temporal, modal and quantitative) alterity adverbials which syntactically double semantically equivalent relative-interrogative and indefinite adverbials. The alterity adverbials strengthen the meaning of the relative-interrogative and indefinite adverbials and offer alternative solutions of fulfilling the action expressed by the verb or, in the case of modal adverbials, of satisfying the constraints of a ternary relation. In the identified contexts, it can be observed that the alterity adverbial is used both anaphorically and cataphorically, depending of the choice of the speakers. For this analysis, the author has extracted data from the present-day language (the CoRoLa corpus and Google).
REZUMAT. Dublarea sintactică a adverbelor relativ-interogative şi nehotărâte (de timp, de mod şi de cantitate) prin adverbele de alteritate corespondente în limba română actuală. În prezentul studiu, ne propunem continuăm o analiză anterioară (Chircu 2020b) şi să discutăm pe marginea adverbelor de alteritate (de timp, de mod şi cantitative) care dublează sintactic adverbele relativ-interogative şi nehotărâte corespondente semantic. Rolul adverbelor de alteritate este de a întări semnificaţia acestora din urmă şi de a oferi soluţii alternative de realizare a acţiunii exprimate de verb sau, în cazul modului, de complinire a unor structuri ternare. În contextele identificate, se poate observa că adverbul de alteritate se întrebuinţează atât anaforic, cât şi cataforic, în funcţie de opţiunile locutorilor. Pentru analiza acestui tip de structuri, autorul face apel la fapte de limbă selectate din română actuală (corpusul CoRoLa şi Google).

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Get PDFLatin inherited Adjectives used as Adverbials in Istro-Romanian. Our study aims to research the adverbial use of adjectives (followed or not by prepositions) inherited from Latin into Istro-Romanian, one of the South-Danubian Romanian dialects which is threatened nowadays with extinction, as foreseen by the majority of linguists interested in this dialectal variety of the Romanian language. In order to pursue an objective analysis we will rely generally on the standard Romanian language and on the description of Istro-Romanian adjectives and adverbs according to specialized literature (treaties, monographies, further studies, dictionaries, glossaries, dialectal texts and so on) as proof for our research, but we will also rely on Latin as well as other Romance languages. We would also like to highlight that such a research has not been undertaken until the present moment. Our research will have an impact not only on the description of a particular aspect discovered in Istro-Romanian, but also on Romanian as a whole or on the Neo-Latin languages, by pointing out certain language-specific structural concordances.

REZUMAT. Adjective moştenite din latină cu valoare adverbială în istroromână. În studiul nostru, ne propunem să urmărim folosirea adverbială (± prepoziţie) a adjectivelor moştenite din latină în istroromână, unul dintre dialectele româneşti sud-dunărene, care, în zilele noastre, este ameninţat cu dispariţia, dupa cum întrevăd majoritatea lingviştilor interesaţi de această varietate dialectală a românei. Pentru o analiză obiectivă, ne vom raporta, în general, la româna comună şi la descrierea adjectivelor şi a adverbelor istroromâne din paginile lucrărilor de specialitate elaborate până în prezent (tratate, monografii, studii punctuale, dicţionare, glosare, texte dialectale etc.), spre a observa cum/dacă se validează demersul nostru, însă vor fi referiri şi la latină şi la celelelte limbi romanice. Precizăm, de asemenea, că o asemenea cercetare vizând subiectul anunţat în titlu nu a mai fost întreprinsă până astăzi. Aceasta este benefică nu numai pentru descrierea unui aspect particular atestat în istroromână, ci şi pentru română în ansamblul ei sau pentru limbile neolatine, evidenţiindu-se anumite concordanţe structurale specifice.
