Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

No full textNotre thèse porte sur les mutations technologiques et organisationnelles dans les laboratoires de biologie médicale en France, ainsi que sur leur impact à la fois sur le métier de technicien de laboratoire et sur le rôle des cadres de santé dans l’accompagnement au changement (Collerette et al. 1997),. Le secteur hospitalier, profondément affecté par des réformes telles que la loi HPST (2009) et la loi de modernisation du système de santé (2016), connaît des transformations majeures. (Noguera et Lartigau 2019 ; Commeiras, 2022). La biologie médicale, qui joue un rôle central dans le diagnostic et le traitement des patients, est particulièrement concernée par ces évolutions, notamment avec l’introduction de l’automatisation, des nouvelles technologies et de l’intelligence artificielle.Cependant, un décalage persiste entre les compétences enseignées dans les formations initiales des techniciens de laboratoire et les compétences requises pour s’adapter aux innovations tech-nologiques actuelles. Cet écart souligne la nécessité d’un nouveau leadership des cadres de santé (Northouse 2016 ; Plane 2024), capable de soutenir les équipes dans cette période de transition. Notre recherche propose ainsi des recommandations, visant à mieux gérer les mutations techno-logiques tout en valorisant les compétences des techniciens et en assurant une meilleure intégra-tion des innovations dans les établissements de santé. Le cadre théorique de notre étude s’appuie sur la théorie sociotechnique (Trist & Bamforth, 1951), qui met en lumière l’interdépendance entre systèmes techniques et humains et insiste sur l’importance de leur optimisation conjointe pour réussir les transformations organisationnelles.L’objectif principal de notre thèse est d’examiner l’évolution des métiers des techniciens et des cadres de santé dans les laboratoires de biologie médicale, touchés par ces profondes transfor-mations technologiques. Nous avons adopté une démarche prospective des métiers (Boyer &Scouarnec 2008) au sein d’un groupement de 18 laboratoires de biologie médicale appartenant à un Groupement Hospitalier de Territoire (GHT). L’étude vise à analyser les impacts des muta-tions internes et externes sur l’organisation et les métiers, tout en observant les évolutions en termes d’activités, de compétences et de responsabilités. Sur le plan empirique, nous avons me-né une étude qualitative basée sur 31 entretiens semi-directifs : 12 avec des cadres de santé, 4 avec des fournisseurs de solutions technologiques, et 15 entretiens collectifs regroupant 53 tech-niciens de laboratoire. Les données recueillies ont ensuite été analysées de manière thématique à l’aide du logiciel SEGESE (Savall et Zardet, 1987), permettant ainsi d'identifier les dynamiques à l'œuvre dans ces transformations.Notre recherche PM a révélé divers résultats relatifs à plusieurs thématiques clés. Elle se penche sur les évolutions technologiques à venir et analyse leurs impacts futurs, tout en s'intéressant aux changements dans l'organisation du travail et les modes de fonctionnement. Les mutations des métiers et des compétences des TDL, ainsi que les exigences en matière de formation, font éga-lement partie de l'étude. En outre, l'analyse aborde les nouvelles pratiques managériales et de leadership chez les CDS dans le secteur de la santé, ainsi que les compétences essentielles re-quises dans ces domaines. Enfin, l'étude évalue les enjeux stratégiques et l'évolution de la com-munication pour mieux anticiper les besoins futurs.Our thesis focuses on technological and organizational changes in medical biology laboratories in France, and their impact on both the profession of laboratory technician and the role of healthcare managers in supporting change. The hospital sector, profoundly affected by reforms such as the HPST law (2009) and the healthcare system modernization law (2016), is undergo-ing major transformations Noguera et Lartigau 2019 ; Commeiras, 2022). Medical biology, which plays a central role in the diagnosis and treatment of patients, is particularly affected by these developments, especially with the introduction of automation, new technologies and artificial intelligence.However, a mismatch persists between the skills taught in initial training courses for laboratory technicians and the skills required to adapt to today's technological innovations. This mis-match underlines the need for new leadership from healthcare managers (Northouse 2016 ; Plane 2024) capable of supporting teams through this period of transition. Our research thus proposes concrete recommendations for these managers and for decision-makers, aimed at better managing technological change while enhancing the skills of technicians and ensuring better integration of innovations in healthcare establishments. The theoretical framework of our study is based on socio-technical theory (Trist & Bamforth, 1951), which highlights the interdependence between technical and human systems, and stresses the importance of opti-mizing them jointly to achieve successful organizational transformations.The main aim of our thesis is to examine changes in the professions of technicians and healthcare managers in medical biology laboratories, affected by these profound technological transformations. We have adopted a prospective approach Boyer &Scouarnec 2008) to the professions within a group of 18 medical biology laboratories belonging to a Groupement Hospitalier de Territoire (GHT). The aim of the study was to analyze the impact of internal and external changes on organization and professions, while observing changes in terms of activities, skills and responsibilities. Empirically, we conducted a qualitative study based on 31 semi-structured interviews: 12 with healthcare executives, 4 with suppliers of technological solutions, and 15 group interviews with 53 laboratory technicians. The data collected was then analyzed thematically using SEGESE (Savall et Zardet, 1987), software, enabling us to identi-fy the dynamics at work in these transformations.Our PM research has revealed a number of findings relating to several key themes. It looks at upcoming technological developments and analyzes their future impact, while also examining changes in work organization and operating modes. Changes in TDL professions and skills, as well as training requirements, also form part of the study. In addition, the analysis addresses new managerial and leadership practices among CDSs in the healthcare sector, as well as the essential skills required in these areas. Finally, the study assesses strategic issues and the evo-lution of communication to better anticipate future needs

Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
