1. Il Sacramentario del Pionta. ms. BAV Vat. lat. 4772
No full textIl ms. BAV Vat. lat. 4772 è il più antico Sacramentario attribuibile, su base contenutistica, alla Diocesi di Arezzo. Si tratta di un Sacramentario arricchito genericamente datato dalla bibliografia recente all'XI secolo o all'XI/XII. Una attenta analisi del testo tradito e della biografia istituzionale dei canonici ricordati nel Memento vivorum della celebrazione pasquale e delle cariche da essi rivestite, desunta dallo studio della documentazione vescovile o privata superstite, a cui essi hanno partecipato come attori o sottoscrittori, si riesce a datare il nucleo originario del codice 'ad annum' al 1009-1010. Lo studio delle caratteristiche grafiche e ornamentali, affiancato a una attenta disamina codicologica, permettono di enucleare le caratteristiche della scuola grafica capitolare dell'inizio dell'XI secolo, risultato supportato dal confronto con la scrittura di documenti vescovili e privati portanti datazione espressa. Questo risultato porta con sé, non solo la definizione di dati storici riguardanti il governo della diocesi aretina tra il vescovato di Elemperto e quello di Adalberto, due dei più importanti vescovi dell'Italia centrale a cavallo tra X e XI secolo e legati all'autorità imperiale e attivi agli albori del movimento preriformista, ma anche l'assegnazione di un nucleo di manoscritti, attribuiti su base storico-artistica all'area aretina e considerati vicini al Vat. lat. 4772, all'inizio del secolo XI, contribuendo così a ridisegnare modi e tempi dello sviluppo della scrittura carolina e dello stile ornamentale geometrico iniziale nell'area della Tuscia orientale. Completano il volume due appendici, una riguardante alcune caratteristiche del testo del Sacramentario (a cura di G. Millesoli), l'altra che esamina un elenco di beni scritto alla fine del codice e ne fornisce edizione migliorativa rispetto ad altre precedenti, che contestualizza le vicende recenziori del manoscritto (a cura di F. Cenni)

No full textThe paper analyzes dedications in children’s literature through the paratextual categories outlined by Gérard Genette. In particular, the study focuses on those dedications addressed to the children who became the main characters of the works dedicated to them. These dedications maximally manifest their function of vestibules, connecting reality and literary fiction, thus assuming fundamental importance for a deep understanding of the literary works. The paper uses as cases of study the dedications in Alice's Adventures under Ground, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, and Through the Looking-Glass, written by Lewis Carroll to Alice Liddell; “To the Five,” the
dedication to the Davies brothers in the opening of J.M. Barrie's play Peter Pan: the Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up; and finally the dedication letter addressed to Lucy Barfield by C.S. Lewis in
The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe. After questioning why no dedications addressed to children appear before the mid-nineteenth century, the paper examines the study cases to
determine whether they follow Genette's model or deviate from it. The analysis highlights how the dedications, which are work dedications, present aspects of exemplar dedications and private epitexts. Indeed, they maintain a private nature of the communicative act thanks to textual references that only the dedicatees can interpret fully. The analysis also observes some recurrent themes in all the dedications: the idea of the book as a gift from the adult to the child; the remembrance of the moment of genesis of the story, clearly separated from the moment of
writing; and the presence of the threshold not only in the paratext but also as a theme. The research thus tries to answer two questions: if the moment of the story's genesis is separated from
the moment of writing, can dedications shed light on why the story was written down? And how do the temporal relationships expressed in the dedications give keys to interpreting how time is portrayed within the stories
A porous flow model of flank eruptions on Mt. Etna: second-order perturbation theory
No full textA porous flow model for magma migration from a deep source within a volcanic edifice is developed. The model is based on the assumption that an isotropic and homogeneous system of fractures allows magma migration from one localized feeding dyke up to the surface of the volcano. The maximum level that magma can reach within the volcano (i.e., the «free surface» of magma, where fluid pressure equals the atmospheric pressure) is reproduced through a second-order perturbation approach to the non-linear equations governing the migration of incompressible fluids through a porous medium. The perturbation parameter is found to depend on the ratio of the volumic discharge rate at the source (m3/s) divided by the product of the hydraulic conductivity of the medium (m1/s) times the square of the source depth. The second-order corrections for the free surface of Mt. Etna are found to be small but not negligible; from the comparison between first-order and second-order free surfaces it appears that the former is higher near the summit, slightly lower at intermediate altitudes and slightly higher far away from the axis of the volcano. Flank eruptions in the southern sector are found to be located in regions where the topography is actually lower than the theoretical free surface of magma. In this sector, modulations in the eruption site density correlate well with even minor differences between free surface and topography. In the northern and western sectors similar good fits are found, while the NE rift and the eastern sector seem to require mechanisms or structures respectively favouring and inhibiting magma migration
