An optimization-simulation approach for locating warehouses in logistics networks:

No full text
This thesis introduces a hybrid optimization-simulation model to locate international and regional warehouses for importer companies. The model assumes multiple products, one or two ports of entry, several geographic regions for the continental US, two international warehouses (IWH) and six regional warehouses (RWH). Demand and transit times are assumed probabilistic and several inventory control mechanisms are assumed. Certain cost based constraints for warehouse locations are included in the model. We conducted many experiments and our observation has been that the warehousing location assignments follow a branching pattern starting from the port of entry and stretching towards downstream echelons. The segments of these branches, meaning distance between Port-IWH or IWH-RWH pairs, get longer or shorter depending on the transportation cost inputs of the model. Basically, in order to minimize the overall transportation costs, the optimization model searches for a solution to balance the cost ratio between these segments. According to our model, warehousing cost and demand distribution appear to be important factors for selecting warehouse locations in the logistics network. If there are multiple potential neighboring regions, the optimization model normally chooses the low-cost region. However, when these regions are similar to each other according to the warehousing cost, the model seeks for a location which is closer to the high-demand regions.M.S.Includes bibliographical references (p. 46-47)by Ayberk Onur Gokseve

Stone locales together with continuous maps form a coreflective subcategoryof spectral locales and perfect maps. A proof in the internal language of anelementary topos was previously given by the second-named author. This proofcan be easily translated to univalent type theory using resizing axioms. Inthis work, we show how to achieve such a translation without resizing axioms,by working with large, locally small, and small complete frames with smallbases. This turns out to be nontrivial and involves predicative reformulationsof several fundamental concepts of locale theory

Background and purpose: An accurate histopathological examination with minimal neuronal damage is essential for optimizing treatment strategies of central nervous system lesions. We investigated the feasibility and safety of CT and 3-tesla (3 T) MR-guided freehand brain aspiration biopsies with 18/20-gauge coaxial needles in performing a single imaging unit. Materials and methods: We reviewed CT and 3 T-MR guided freehand aspiration biopsies with 18/20-gauge coaxial needles of 33 patients (11-female and 22-male, mean and median ages: 53 years, min–max 21–79 years) in our tertiary hospital within an 8-year-period were included in this retrospective study. Lesion sizes, diagnostic yield, morbidity, and mortality rates of these biopsies without a scalp incision, surgical burr-hole, or stereotactic-instrumentation/neuro-navigation guidance were assessed. All biopsies were performed with local anesthesia and sedation within a single imaging unit of our radiology department. All free-hand biopsies were done as in-patient procedures and the patients were closely observed after the biopsies. Results: The mean diameter of the lesions was 27 mm (median 25; range 15–46 mm). The diagnostic yield of all free-hand brain biopsies was 88% [one inconclusive result (90%) for 3 T-MR; three inconclusive results (87%) for CT]. There was no major hemorrhage or hematoma, no clinical deterioration, or no infection in our patients on early- and late-phase examinations. Postprocedural minor hemorrhage with a ≤ 2 cm diameter was observed in two patients. The morbidity rate of the study population is 6%. There was no procedure-related infection or mortality in the post-procedural 3 weeks. Conclusions: Freehand CT or 3 T-MR guided aspiration biopsy was a safe and feasible method for pathological diagnosis of intracranial lesions. Biopsy workflow was simplified with this technique. It could be considered a valuable alternative for stereotaxic biopsies, especially for centers that do not have stereotaxic equipment or experience. © 2022, The Author(s) under exclusive licence to Japan Radiological Society

Thesis (M.A.) -- İstanbul Technical University, Institute of Social Sciences, 2017Tez (Yüksek Lisans) -- İstanbul Teknik Üniversitesi, Sosyal Bilimler Enstitüsü, 2017The purpose of this thesis is to find out the ways how autodidact jazz vibraphonists learn their art. As part of the classical orchestra and jazz band, vibraphone is a relatively new instrument. It was developed in the U.S. in the early 20th century. The progress of jazz music and vibraphone continued parallel to each other. All of the early jazz vibraphonists were self-taught or had started their careers by playing another instrument. Today, there are not many vibraphone players and teachers outside the United States and Europe. Furthermore, the number of jazz vibraphone players in Turkey is much less than that. This leads to anyone who wants to learn this instrument to learn by themselves. However, learning an instrument alone is a hard task for most people. It is predictable that there are mainly two difficulties lying ahead for the self-taught jazz vibraphonists to overcome. First is to learn jazz harmony and jazz idioms, and the second is to learn the techniques of the vibraphone. Various educational materials can be found on these issues. I believe the most reliable source of information are method books that are written by specialists. Most of the written methods about jazz vibraphone and vibraphone techniques are recent, having been written in the past fifty years. To that end, I examined different types of jazz vibraphone methods. Also, with the development of the internet and the technology, new educational materials like apps and websites have emerged. I intend to provide a retrospective review of pedagogical materials for the vibraphone in this study. A substantial section of this thesis consists of interviews which were made by the author with Can Tutuğ and Alp Özdayı, two prominent jazz vibraphonists living in Turkey. Both of the interviewees are self-taught on jazz vibraphone. I intend to give a broad understanding of self-taught learning derived from their experience. In the light of the information gathered from the jazz vibraphone educational materials and interviews that have been conducted, it is seen that, even if jazz vibraphone methods are still valuable sources for self-taught musicians, new technologies became an integral part of their learning. However, the most important way of learning is a combination of listening, transcribing and studying jazz harmony.

A new approach to DEMATEL based on interval-valued hesitant fuzzy sets

No full text
Kadaifçi, Çiğdem (Dogus Author)Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory is a widely used method to analyze and visualize the structure of complex systems through matrices and digraphs. The method typically requires dealing with substantial uncertainties and subjectivities inherent in the judgment process. A review of the literature shows that several extensions of DEMATEL have been suggested so far dealing with a variety of sources of uncertainty. However, the uncertainty originating from the human doubt that might arise in the assignment of membership degrees during the assessments is partly or entirely ignored in these studies. To address this problem, this study proposes a new interval-valued hesitant fuzzy approach to DEMATEL, which has the ability to explicitly deal with hesitancy in expert assessments and offer a better representation of uncertainty. To justify the effectiveness and usefulness of the proposed approach, an illustrative example is provided where the proposed approach is compared to the classical crisp and fuzzy DEMATEL approaches

Design of a new generation wound dressing with pine bark extract

No full text
Medical textiles are one of the fastest growing sectors in the technical textile market. Wound dress is one of the significant applications with the largest share in medical textiles. Active molecules doped in the dressings may be therapeutic agents, vitamins, antibiotics, minerals, and growth factors, which contribute to wound healing. Medical plants have a great potential with positive effects in wound care and accelerate the rate of wound healing. Pine bark, which is known to exhibit wound healing properties, is also used in the medical field. The purpose of this study is to design a new wound dressing enriched with Pinus brutia extract. Microwave-assisted extraction which is an environmentally friendly method was carried out at 70celcius, 900 W for 10 min to obtain the extracts. Subsequently, P. brutia bark extract was embedded to the alginate gel dressing and characterized and evaluated by in vivo studies on rats. According to the results, the extract was rapidly released from the alginate gel in the first 6 h, whereas the release was slowly increased to 24 h and then reached a steady state. Therefore, P. brutia extract-embedded alginate gel dressings applied for in vivo studies were changed every 24 h, reaching a healing rate of 75.7%, whereas the control group showed a healing rate of 48.6% indicating the superiority of the newly designed wound healing dress enriched with pine bark extract.Research Fund of Ege UniversityEge University [15MUH051]The author(s) disclosed receipt of the following financial support for the research, authorship, and/or publication of this article: The authors would like to acknowledge the financial support from Research Fund of Ege University through 15MUH051 project
