Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

risultate sufficienti a fronteggiare quest’avvio
di crisi demografica, tanto da potersi persino
annoverare, per la loro inefficienza, tra le
molteplici cause di questa negativa tendenza.
La pianificazione urbana e la progettazione
architettonica possono dare un contributo
fondamentale. In una fase notoriamente critica
per la professione dell’architetto, abbiamo
trovato nel mondo dei bambini un campo
d’azione e d’indagine fertili.
The fertility rate in Italy, less than 1.4
%, is among the lowest in Europe.
Social assistance policies for families
have not been adequate to deal with
the beginning of the demographic
crisis, so that they can be included
for their inefficiency among the many
causes of this negative trend.
Urban planning and architectural
design can make a fundamental
contribution.
At a notoriously critical time for the
architect profession, we have found
the children’s world rich scope of
actions and investigations.
Also the playgrounds of Aldo van
Eyck, built in Amsterdam destroyed by
war, even though they did not seem
to be a necessity at the time, have
paradoxically represented one of the
most sensitive responses in the history
of architectural design.
Nowadays, parents and workers are
even more increasingly synonymous.
The time to spend with children
is dwindling always more and the
demand for spaces for after-school
activities is increasingly urgent.
All these consideration lead us to
think about the meaning of leisure
time and its importance for a child.
The afternoon as a physical design
theme is linked so with the game, the
garden and didactics, finding in the

The aim of this thesis is to examine contemporary domestic spaces through different aspects of esthetic culture, philosophy and anthropology which nowadays mainly influence the “living”.
By means of these branches of knowledge, the model of contemporary home is deeply analyzed, the concept of “what is home”, coming to provide a completely opposite definition to the typological models of the end of last century.
In reality, the attention is not only addressed to a complex “what is home”, but also to several meanings that confirm the choice of a case study project.
Therefore, it is necessary to linger on these circumstances that have been diversified over time, removing the division presented between the place of the heart, of intimacy and the place of work. The research is focused on this condition, seeking its direct implications on beneficiary consumers, on residents and their actions.
“What is home today? A shelter?”. Probably, the answer depends on what the individual really needs, it could only be subjective but in anthropology there is a continuous need of these spaces of interiority.
A first part of this analysis examines domestic interior areas. The house is considered as the place of the “self”, defined by owners customs and their objects’ presence.
Depending on the need and the use itself, these places are continuously reconfigured developing useful characters for different forms of living. In this way, the survey is focused on a specific area, an apartment from the 1950s in Milan, that includes several case studies which can be describe in different ways of living.
This type of analysis shows how important it is to first understand, the character and the behavior of individuals by studying the traces given especially by objects.
In the beginning, the architect determined the interior design on the person, so on the personality, while today, with all external phenomena and conditionings, understanding the operating area is the greatest difficulty.
In this point, the society represents an independent figure able to define standard solutions that can be implemented in its own small way.
However, in our contemporaneity, the real problem related to home and objects’ relationship is defined if these objects control the individual, yourself, or if they are controlled by individuals.
On one hand we choose objects of fashion, on the other hand domestic objects to settle in the world, to be approved, to stand out. We all choose, distinguish by using objects as a communication model with other people.
The research concerning the contemporary domestic interiors, aims to identify these specific objects which, when they are designed, express a typical trend or shape, represent a project of the individual’s freedom
