circRNA-miRNA-mRNA Deregulated Network in Ischemic Heart Failure Patients
No full textThe aim of the study was to evaluate and construct a ceRNA regulatory network in patients with non end-stage ischemic heart failure (HF). Differential expression (DE) analyses of mRNA and circRNA were performed in left ventricles from HF patients and healthy controls, and a previously kept dataset of HF DE miRNAs were used for network construction. A total of 1031 circRNA-miRNA-mRNA interactions were identified, and proposed as HF ceRNA network. KEGG pathway enrichment analysis identified among the top enriched categories several relevant pathways such as Ubiquitin mediated proteolysis, Apelin signaling pathway, MAPK pathway, and MTOR signaling pathways. Interactions of circRNA by binding several miRNAs can regulate the function of multiple mRNA targets, thus providing novel vision of the pathogenesis of HF and laying the theoretical foundation for further studies of circRNAs in HF
Future of left atrial appendage interventions
No full textA BST RAC T Percutaneous left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO), currently recognized as a procedure with relatively low risk, is increasingly being adopted in clinical practice. However, due to the preventive nature of the procedure and the necessity to compare it with newer and safer oral anticoagulants, further optimization is required to address remaining challenges. These latter include acquiring comprehensive data on safety and efficacy, establishing standardized pre -procedural planning, and simplifying procedural process. Consequently, we have provided an overview that encompasses future opportunities for enhancing procedural safety and efficacy, thereby establishing LAAO as the mainstream strategy for stroke and systemic embolism prevention in patients with atrial fibrillation and absolute contraindications to anticoagulant drugs.

No full textIn heart failure (HF), the progressive use of multiple drugs and a complex therapeutic regimen is common and is recommended by international guidelines.With HF being a common disease in the elderly, patients often have numerous comorbidities that require additional specific treatment, thus producing a heavy pill burden. Polypharmacy, defined as the chronic use of five or more medications, is an underestimated problem in the management of HF patients. However, polypharmacy has an important impact on HF treatment, as it often leads to inappropriate drug prescription, poor adherence to pharmacological therapies, drug-drug interactions, and adverse effects. The growing complexity of HF patients, whose mean age increases progressively and who present multiple comorbidities, suggests the need for newer models of primary care to improve the management of HF patients. Self-care, telemonitoring, and natriuretic peptide-guided therapy represent promising new HF care models to face the complexity of the disease and its therapeutic regimen. © Springer Science+Business Media 2014

No full textWe report a rare case of a patient with AL amyloidosis and pseudoxanthoma elasticum skin lesions. An association between these two diseases has been previously described as amyloid elastosis in only six cases, but cardiac findings were not fully elucidated. The peculiarity of our case is that a severe cardiac involvement influenced the prognosis negatively. Furthermore, the electron microscopic examination did not show all the peculiar histopathological findings of amyloid elastosis, precluding a final diagnosis of this disease.We report a rare case of a patient with AL amyloidosis and pseudoxanthoma elasticum skin lesions. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Full text link“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
