How different organizations of space modulate the same-object effect

    No full text
The present study investigates the hypothesis that the "same object effect" is just one case of a broader category of attentional effects caused by the ways the objects affect the spatial organization of the visual field. In general, our results suggest that the “same object effect” is not related to an advantage when shifting visual attention between two locations belonging to the same object in the visual field, instead it is caused by the orientation of the objects that occupy the space and the visual anisotropies that characterize visual field

«Yo soy de Destierrolandia»: Fernando Arrabal y el límite

    No full text
Fernando Arrabal is a Spanish author - actually, no, he isn't. He is a francophone writer, or, more accurately, a Spanish expatriate. Or, on the contrary, he is a traitor, an «afrancesado». In this paper Fernando Arrabal's case will be used as an example of the difficulties that an author has to face when he leaves his own country and moves to another different from a spatial, cultural, and linguistic point of view. Besides, I will analyze the unusual position of the critic in the reception and interpretation of a corpus that, while being obviously connected to its author, cannot refer to a precise national context

In the tenth issue of the journal of Georgetown University dedicated to the relationship between the authors of the twentieth century and the most important cities in Italy, Italian Paola deals with the relationship between Giorgio Bassani and Ferrara, a city to which the author devotes all her fiction and that becomes a real literary character. Categorie semantico-funzionali del futuro russo

    No full text
The Russian future tense has three semantic components (temporal, modal, and aspectual), which is why studies on this topic tend to emphasize an asymmetry within the Russian tense system. As a matter of fact, according to some linguists, there is one sole opposition in Russian: that between the past and present tenses. In the present work, the author expounds the attempts made by linguists to resolve this asymmetry, and distinguishes between Bondarko’s semantic functional formulation (1971) and the typological and contrastive studies which are peculiar to the Western linguistic tradition. She subsequently shows how the results of a typological-contrastive approach and the use of the conceptual apparatus developed so far within studies on modality and aspect, can help explain the semantic value of the future tense markers in Russian, particularly those of the present-future perfective aspect. In the part devoted to the analysis of a corpus of examples drawn from the Russian grammatical tradition, the future tense markers are considered as an amalgam and it is pointed out how their potential values are activated in precise communicative co-texts and contexts. This has led to a redefinition of the reciprocal relation among the semantic categories which are transmitted by the future (tense, aspect, and modality), underlining the rich polysemy of these verbal markers
