Full text linkAmong all warehouse operations, the preparation of customers' orders often represents a challenge. From one side, there is the need of fulfilling the requirements of the customers in short time windows; from the other side, there is the need of limiting operative costs. Moreover, when considering fresh products other aspects come into play, such as product quality and freshness, related to the time perspective, and the refrigerated storage, more linked to the cost dimension. In this paper, we propose the comparison of two alternatives for orders preparation, warehouse picking and warehouse putting, to understand when a configuration can be more appropriate than the other. First, we describe the two systems by highlighting strengths, weaknesses and differences. Then, we propose some mathematical formulations to measure time performance, occupied space and costs, also including energy consumption related to the storage of fresh products. The formulas are applied to real data, showing that the applicability of one system with respect to the other clearly depend on the number of orders per day and the number of stock keeping units

Full text linkWe study the dilute and ultracold unitary Bose gas, characterized by a universal equation of state due to the diverging s-wave scattering length, under a transverse harmonic confinement. From the hydrodynamic equations of superfluids we derive an effective one-dimensional nonpolynomial Schrodinger equation (1D NPSE) for the axial wavefunction which, however, also takes into account the transverse wavefunction. By solving the 1D NPSE we obtain meaningful analytical formulas for the dark (gray and black) solitons of the bosonic system
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Full text linkThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
