The dissertation entitled "Religious Issues in Karolina Světlá's Ještěd Novels" deals with an analysis of the Ještěd Novels by the author Karolina Světlá. It characterises the depiction of vernacular devoutness in the novels by means of an analysis of the changes in the characters' religious consciousness and their subsequent interpretation. The paper confronts the fictional depiction of the various forms of religiousness with real historic facts; the most important factors of the religious positions of the "long" 19th century are verified on the scale of the Ještěd Novels. The objective of the paper is to shed light on the progressive qualitative changes in Karolina Světlá's works of prose and interpret them against the backdrop of the defined problem area, which is the period concept of devoutness and attitudes to faith as such

The objective of this research is to find a correlation between changing generations and their influence on brand equity and brand identity. It is also aimed to present a list of strategic steps, that lead towards developing and improving the aspects of brand loyalty, directed to affect the generation of Millennials. The research methods that were used for the analysis of this thesis include qualitative research and external secondary data. The literature review is used for the theoretical framework. To confirm the mentioned correlation a short case study of Unilever beauty care brand - Dove was put together. With its existing historical data and thorough analysis of the brand's strategy, identity and advertising, throughout demographic brackets of generations, the author could recognize the changes brought in by occurred population dynamics. It also shows constructive and contradictory outcomes from Dove’s evolvement and faced challenges. Brand equity is an intangible asset that adds positive or negative variations to the overall value of a brand. Thus, in some cases, it is quite challenging to estimate a total and additional exact value, especially financially, that the brand is bringing to a product or services. Nonetheless, an extremely valuable advantage can be reached through correctly structured brand equity and brand identity, which essentially is brand loyalty. Ultimately, the aim of this research is to provide clear guidelines to additional elements that reinforce the development of loyal relationships with new age generations

University students of Polish language in Italy often form heterogeneous groups, differing primarily in their level of language proficiency and in their various motivations. Is it possible to make the language learning process more effective when, for some students, Polish is a foreign language, while for others it is a second language—or even their mother tongue? How can the different potential and competencies of students be utilized and evaluated when faced with the same requirements? The strategy proposed by the author is rooted in the humanistic-affective approach to language teaching, as it places students' emotions at the core and treats the language of study as a potential tool for self-fulfillment. The author draws on her teaching experience at the Universities of Genoa and Milan, as well as on students’ responses to a questionnaire

The first licensed doctor in our area with a private practice opened in 1906 in Zagreb, in Berislavićeva Street 3, was German Karolina Milobar, née Maier. She is also the first female author to publish her experiences from medical practice on the pages of Liječnički vjesnik. Thanks to the content of six published articles that appeared in the period 1907 – 1931, we analyzed her work in the field of gastroenterology. We argued that with her texts, Karolina Milobar opened up a new and then current topic, especially through the description and problematization of the diagnosis of diseases of the digestive organs, and by comparing the methods used in foreign clinics with those from her own practice. It is about the earliest descriptions of the analysis of stomach contents, the use of a duodenal probe and a rectoscope, about a subject that makes a departure from the one that was present at that time on the pages of Liječnički vjesnik and refers primarily to the scope of surgical procedures. Furtheron she spent a good part of her specialization in gastroenterology at foreign clinics where prominent representatives of new directions in the development of medicine worked at that time. Therefore her direct reference to the results of those relevant centers contributes to the insight into the segment of transfer, adoption and modification of knowledge in the field of gastroenterology into the practice of our doctors

ObhájenoThis bacherol thesis examines five novels writen by Karolina Svetla, that are set in the area of Podještědí. The subject of this book titled "Polish-Italian Bilingualism and the Cultural Identity of Polish Emigrants in Italy before and during the Solidarność period" is a description of Polish-Italian bilingualism as well as an analysis of the process of shaping cultural identity of Polish emigrants moved to Italy between 1956 and 1999. The research carried out is of an interdisciplinary sort and employs advances in linguistics, ethnography of speaking, linguistic anthropology, psychology and sociology. Narrative and qualitative approaches have been used as well as the method of case studies. The perception of the phenomenon of bilingualism presented in the thesis is close to those perceptions expressed in the definitions enunciated by U. Weinreich, E. Haugen and R. Titone. The linguistic behavior of the respondents has been examined by means of formal and functional analysis. The author shows that one of the criteria of choosing a particular language is related to the emotional expressive power which is distinctive of each of the two languages and which ought to be examined in a proper communicative context. When analyzing the formation process of the bilingual respondents’ cultural identity, the author refers to these respodents’ own statements and to the theories of A. Kłoskowska, E. Erikson, A. Maslow, J.C.Turner and H. Tajfel. Applying the affective criterion, the author has distinguished 6 types of identity attitudes, the most important of which is the over-particularist cultural and national identity, an attitude which is not oriented around a specific language or culture, but is related to a particular emotional state or a psychological need which is predominant in a certain period of the respondent’s life

Terrorized into compliance: why countries submit to financial counterterrorism

Today’s terrorism threat is global. For this reason, academics and policy makers underscore the importance of a multilateral counterterrorism response. Surprisingly little research examines the determinants of multilateral counterterrorism cooperation. In this study, I employ an original dataset to estimate the determinants of counterterrorism cooperation. I proxy multilateral cooperation in terms of whether governments comply with the International Convention for the Suppression of the Financing of Terrorism, an important instrument for stemming the financing of international terrorist activities. What are the determinants of variation in country compliance with financial counterterrorism? To answer this research question, I employ a mixed methods approach. First, I use an ordered logit model to examine several hypotheses in the literature to predict compliance rates, including the magnitude and intensity of violence against the target country and its regime type and capability. I find that across model specifications, United States influence, in terms of bilateral trade, has a highly statistically significant effect on country compliance. Second, I process trace the causal mechanism by examining primary source documents. My findings have several policy implications—mainly that trade is an effective counterterrorism tool.Ph. Język “Innego”, język o “Innym” w książce Evy Hoffman Sztetl. Świat Żydów polskich – spojrzenie z perspektywy lingwistyki pamięci

The Pole and the Jew, the two paradigmatic Others, are key elements of (non)memory in post-World War II Polish discourse, and at the same time, they comprise a kind of dyadic antithesis. Its foundation lies in the collective narcissism of Poles and blacklash, the group defense reflex of masking and mystifying the memory of the Holocaust (cfr. Chlebda 2022). The aim of the article is to analyze the Polish translation of Eva Hoffman's book Sztetl (2001, original edition 1997) from the perspective of memory linguistics (W. Chlebda, W. Czachur, M. Wójcicka). The author examines the discursive strategies and semantic reflections that allow Hoffman to maintain objectivity in presenting the history of Polish-Jewish relations from the Middle Ages to the end of the 20th century, as well as in discussing the three contradictory collective memories: Polish, Jewish, and Western
