Primary structure of three peptides at the catalytic and allosteric sites of the fructose 1,6-bisphosphate-activated pyruvate kinase from Escherichia coli
No full textThree peptides containing 6-pyridoxyllysine have been isolated from the tryptic digest of the allosteric fructose-1,6-bisphosphate-dependent pyruvate kinase from Escherichia coli, which had been almost completely inactivated with pyridoxal 5'-phosphate. The labelled peptides have been sequenced. The comparison of their sequences with the primary structure of the cat muscle pyruvate kinase allowed to state that peptide I fits the region spanning residues 423-438 (53% identity), peptide II corresponds to residues 442-457 (44% identity) and peptide III encompasses residues 342-368 (70% identity). These findings are discussed in connection with our previous results on the involvement of the three peptides in the catalytic and regulatory properties of the enzyme (Valentini, G., Speranza, M.L., Iadarola, P., Ferri, G. & Malcovati, M. (1988) Biol. Chem. Hoppe-Seyler 369, 1219-1226) and in connection with their location in the three-dimensional structure of the cat muscle pyruvate kinase (Muirhead, H., Clayden, D.A., Lorimer, C.G., Fothergill-Gilmore, L.A., Schiltz, E. & Schmitt, W. Relative formal topology, namely, the binary positivity predicate comes first
No full textIn this paper we introduce relative formal topology in order to deal constructively with
the closed subsets of a topological space as well as with the open ones.
In fact, within standard formal topology the cover relation allows for the definition of the
formal opens, namely, what is supposed to be the formal counterpart of the open
subsets, and within balanced formal topology the binary positivity predicate allows
for the definition of the formal closed subsets, namely, what is supposed to be the
formal counterpart of the closed subsets.
However, these approaches are fully satisfactory (according to the criterion introduced
by the author in "The problem of the formalization of constructive topology", Archive for Mathematical Logic (44/1), pp.115--129) only if an adequate formalization of the
cover relation and the positivity predicate can be provided.
But the present formalizations fail in this respect since some intuitionistically valid
relations between the open and the closed subsets of a concrete topological space
can not be expressed.
Our central result is that a generalization of the standard cover relation together with
a binary positivity predicate enjoying the positivity axiom solve the problem

No full textL’Autore esamina i risvolti prodotti dalle più recenti modifiche alla disciplina del rito penale sul sistema delle impugnazio-ni, correlandole alle nuove regole che impongono al giudice una precisa struttura della motivazione. L’assunto di fondo è quello che nessun possibile miglioramento nel sistema delle impugnazioni può prescindere dal garantire in primis la qualità della decisione giudiziale e, soprattutto, la c.d. fedeltà della motivazione al processo.
The Author examines the consequences of the most recent changes to the discipline of penal procedure regarding appeals, with particular regards to the relationship between rules that govern it and the laws which indicate to the judge how to ar-range his decision. The basic assumption is that no possible improvement in the system of appeals can be disregarded by first of all ensuring the quality of the judicial decision and, above all, the c.d. fidelity of the motivation to the trial

No full textThis work aims to reflect on education and the drifting of which it is often protagonist, especially in the young generations who nevertheless draw the older generations into question, making them the protagonists of a deterioration which is to be halted. Family, school, institutions must together understand or, better, take action and intervene in this educational emergency. Taking up again a book, the book “Experience and Education” by John Dewey, rereading it and bringing up original parts by the author, one discovers, rediscovers his thought, which are deep and meaningful and which helps us to find, to find once more the road we have lost, the road we must travel along, without creating or inventing special effects from goodness knows where. In the book we find written in black and white, for social control, good practices which can put the education machine back on the right track, a machine which seems to have crashed against a wall of nonsense, at a point of non-return. We must all restore the right balance to this machine, and give back meaning and value to that which characterizes us: humanit

No full textA partire dal ritrovamento presso l’archivio del Museo Sveviano della corrispondenza tra Italo Svevo e Mario Gastaldi, editore milanese attivo specialmente negli anni trenta del Novecento, il contributo si propone di precisare l’incerta tradizione del Profilo autobiografico. Le lettere riportate alla luce permettono di riformulare parzialmente i giudizi critici finora espressi e di fornire prove circa la paternità sveviana del documento in oggetto. Infine, un confronto tra il manoscritto-dattiloscritto di Giulio Cesari, che contiene un canovaccio dell’autobiografia modificata poi da Svevo, e il Profilo apparso già nel 1928 sotto forma di articolo di giornale e firmato da Gastaldi permetterà di verificare quali siano state le sostanziali varianti operate dall’autore triestino, confermando l’importanza e il carattere di eccezionalità di un testo che occorrerà riportare al centro degli studi sveviani.The aim of this paper is to clarify the textual tradition of Italo Svevo's Profilo autobiografico. Following the discovery of the correspondence between Svevo and the publisher Mario Gastaldi, it is now easier to prove that Svevo massively contributed to composing the text. Moreover, thanks to a comparison between new and old textual witnesses, it is now possible to identify the variants introduced by the author, which confirm the literary importance of the Profilo autobiografico for the modern studies on Italo Svevo's works
