The departure process of a quorum queueing system

    No full text
AbstractWe study in this paper the departure process of a bulk service queueing system. The server operates under a minimum batch size strategy. We characterize the departure process through the distribution of the interdeparture times of batches and of customers, the distribution of the number of customers in a batch, and the coefficient of correlation between the interdeparture time of a batch and the number of customers in the batch. A numerical illustration is presented

Influence of Insect Screen\u27s Porosity on Greenhouse Climate: CFD Approach

    No full text
The effect of insect screens of a tunnel greenhouse with tomato crop on airflow and temperature patterns was numerically investigated using a commercial computational fluid dynamics (CFD) code. Three commonly used types of insect screens in greenhouses were studied: (a) an anti-bemisia insect screen, (b) an anti-aphid screen and (c) an antithrip screen. The numerical model was firstly validated against experimental data collected in a greenhouse identical with the one used in simulations. A gradual increase of air temperature and a decrease of air velocity inside the greenhouse were observed as the porosity of the tested insect screen was reduced. The results for the air flow and temperature distributions are presented for an external wind speed 3 m/s

In this thesis, we consider the problem of the nonparametric estimation in the conditional models when the regressor takes its values in infinite dimension space. More precisely, we treated two cases when the response variable is real and functional. One establishes almost complete uniform convergence of nonparametric estimators for certain conditional models. Firstly, we consider a sequence of i.i.d. observations. In this context, we build kernel estimators of the conditional cumulative distribution, the conditional density, the conditional hazard function and the conditional mode. We give the uniform consistency rate of these estimators. We illustrate our results by giving an application on simulated samples. Secondly, we generalize our results when the response variable is in a Banach space. We estimate the regression function. In this context, we treat both cases : i.i.d and dependent observations. In the last case, we consider that the observations are Béta-mixing and we establishes almost complete pointwise convergence. Our asymptotic results exploit the topological structure of functional space for the observations. Let us note that all the rates of convergence are based on an hypothesis of concentration of the measure of probability of the functional variable on the small balls and also on the Kolmogorov’s entropy which measures the number of the balls necessary to cover some set. Moreover, when the response variable is functional the rate of convergence contains a new term which depends on type of Banach space

Entropy Analysis of a Flexible Markovian Queue with Server Breakdowns

    No full text
In this paper, a versatile Markovian queueing system is considered. Given a fixed threshold level c, the server serves customers one a time when the queue length is less than c, and in batches of fixed size c when the queue length is greater than or equal to c. The server is subject to failure when serving either a single or a batch of customers. Service rates, failure rates, and repair rates, depend on whether the server is serving a single customer or a batch of customers. While the analytical method provides the initial probability vector, we use the entropy principle to obtain both the initial probability vector (for comparison) and the tail probability vector. The comparison shows the results obtained analytically and approximately are in good agreement, especially when the first two moments are used in the entropy approach
