On the deep string spectrum
These proceedings are based on the author's invited talk reviewing the original published work [1,2] of the author with collaborators. The subject matter is a new, covariant and efficient technology of constructing entire trajectories of physical string states deeper inside the string spectrum than the leading Regge. The key observation behind the technology is that the lowering operators of a symplectic algebra appear in the Virasoro constraints which impose physicality of states in the open bosonic string. This algebra commutes with the spacetime Lorentz algebra, (of the little group) of which all string states are irreducible representations. Employing then the so-called Howe duality of representation theory, one may relate the irreducible representations of the two algebras via a bijection. The spectrum thus splits into two parts: trajectories that are lowest weight states of the symplectic algebra and their infinitely many clones. The latter can then be reached by suitably dressing the former with the raising operators of the symplectic algebra. The technology is nontrivially extended to the open superstring, where the relevant Howe dual is an orthosymplectic algebra

Agricultural situation report of Cyprus and the market and trade policies for fruit/vegetable and olive oil
During the last decade the Cypriot agricultural sector has been declining in terms of most indices in the economy, mainly due to the spiraling growth of tourism, as crucial investment outlays were diverted from agriculture to tourism; the most important factors of production being land and labor due to substantially higher yields accruing to both. The Domestic Resource Cost (DRC) revealed that the three products studied for the period 1997 to 2000, i.e. tomatoes, oranges and olive oil had a comparative advantage. However, the opening of the European market with EU accession led to the substantive undermining of competitiveness of agricultural products and to the reduction of the value of exports. It is believed that DRC ratios would be higher today that the ones reported, due to unchanged /decreased border prices and increased costs of tradable inputs. It is suggested that the tomato, orange and olive oil sectors will become more competitive in the European market if factors that are affecting their marketing, like differentiation of production and quality, are improved. New concepts like organic farming and products of origin are very important and may provide profitable outlets in the new globalized economy. Additionally, favorable climatic conditions are vastly for and conducive to the production of early season Mediterranean products with obvious premium attached in the market place.Domestic Resource Cost, Competitiveness, Tomatoes, Oranges, Olive Oil, International Relations/Trade,
Cultivation of Chlorella vulgaris and Arthrospira platensis with recovered phosphorus from wastewater by means of zeolite sorption
In this study, zeolite was employed for the separation and recovery of P from synthetic wastewater and its use as phosphorus (P) source for the cultivation of the green microalga Chlorella vulgaris and the cyanobacterium Arthrospira (Spirulina) platensis. At P-loaded zeolite concentration of 0.15–1 g/L, in which P was limited, the two species displayed quite different behavior regarding their growth and biomass composition. C. vulgaris preferred to increase the intracellular P and did not synthesize biomass, while A. platensis synthesized biomass keeping the intracellular P as low as possible. In addition under P limitation, C. vulgaris did display some little alteration of the biomass composition, while A. platensis did it significantly, accumulating carbohydrates around 70% from about 15%–20% (control). Both species could desorb P from zeolite biologically. A. platensis could recover over 65% and C. vulgaris 25% of the P bounded onto zeolite. When P-loaded zeolite concentration increased to 5 g/L, P was adequate to support growth for both species. Especially in the case of C. vulgaris, growth was stimulated from the presence of P-loaded zeolite and produced more biomass compared to the control.sponsorship: Giorgos Markou would like to thank Dimitris Georgakakis for his help for the realization of the experiments. The coupling of non-linear supersymmetry to supergravity
We study the coupling of non-linear supersymmetry to supergravity. The goldstino nilpotent superfield of global supersymmetry coupled to supergravity is described by a geometric action of the chiral curvature superfield R subject to the constraint (R−λ)2=0 with an appropriate constant λ. This constraint can be found as the decoupling limit of the scalar partner of the goldstino in a class of f(R) supergravity theories
