Oral History Interview with Frederick Fisher
The National Museum of the Pacific War presents monologue with Frederick Fisher. Fisher joined the Marine Corps in June of 1942. He completed boot camp in San Diego. In August he was transferred to Santa Margarita Ranch, now Camp Pendleton, working as the bookkeeper for the Officers’ Club. Fisher later completed Gunnery and Aviation Ordnance School in Norman, Oklahoma. In the spring of 1944, he served aboard the USS General C. G. Morton (AP-138). They traveled to Guadalcanal, where Fisher was stationed for 3 months. He assisted in moving Marine Air Group 24 to Bougainville. In January of 1945 they participated in the Invasion of Lingayen Gulf and the Battle of Luzon. He recalls numerous attacks made by the Japanese
