The article by Clara Fiorillo discusses the problem of the “anti-functionality” of many objects and furniture produced by modern industry and shows some extreme examples of Kitsch objects. The reason for the aesthetical and functional deformation of the objects can be attributed to an abstract conception of the human body and to an idea of its “closing”. The author analyzes this phenomenon by referring to the thought of Rudofsky, Bachtin, Formaggio and Le Corbusier. Finally, she traces a possible solution to this problem by appealing to the “intelligence of body” (the ancient metis mentioned by Formaggio) and to the ability to designing the human gesture (as Simmel wanted) in order to become able to recognizing the subject in the object (such as Bachelard wanted)

    No full text
The aim of the author, in this essay, is to analyze the concept of hu¬man dignity and its difference from that of honour in Samuel Pufendorf’s Natural Law theory. Human dignity is - according to this philosopher - the moral basis of sociality as the fundamental proposition of his Natural Law. More precisely, the concept of dignitas individui is based on the comparison between man and animal. And what distinguishes the former from the latter within this comparison is the disposition of man to be ethically hound, i.e. to do one’s own duly ori condition of reciprocity. Moreover, from the subjective point of view human dignity is characterized by the feeling of self-esteem. On the contrary Pufendorf defines the honour as a moral entity, and more exactly as the “moral quantity” (quantitas moralis), through which individuals are compared and valued in social life

Dental trauma and prevention guidelines: a narrative review

    No full text
Dental injuries affect different patients every day in conditions that can range from domestic, work, or road accidents. As for traumas in the age of development, the field is restricted to domestic, sports, and school environments. The purpose of this study was to clarify the current protocols in the literature to limit and manage this type of pathology. This narrative review considers the literature of the last 20 years on this topic in different ways. The literature is in agreement with dividing the treatments into primary and secondary and also according to what is the place where the trauma occurred to evaluate the type of intervention. However, all protocols are aimed at implementing efficient preventive strategies rather than having to solve a problem subsequently, certainly, new protocols and protection systems can limit this problem which leads not only to more or less complex problems related to oral health and aesthetics but also possible subsequent psychological problems. Psychiatr Serv. 2006 Feb;57(2):266-9. Implementing psychoeducational interventions in Italy for patients with schizophrenia and their families. Magliano L, Fiorillo A, Malangone C, De Rosa C, Maj M; Family Intervention Working Group. Abstract OBJECTIVE: This study explored the feasibility of providing psychoeducational interventions for persons with schizophrenia and their families. METHODS: The study was carried out in 23 Italian mental health centers. Two professionals from each center attended three monthly training sessions on psychoeducational interventions. After the training, each professional provided informative sessions on schizophrenia to five families of service users with schizophrenia, which consisted of three meetings with each family on clinical aspects of schizophrenia, drug treatments, and detection of early signs of relapse. Each professional then provided the intervention to families for six months. RESULTS: Thirty-eight of the 46 participants completed the training course, and 34 provided the intervention to 71 families. Twenty-nine of the 34 provided the entire intervention to the families and five of the 34 held only informative sessions on schizophrenia. Ninety-one percent of the participants who completed the study reported difficulties in integrating the intervention with their other work responsibilities, and 96 percent acknowledged the positive effect that the intervention had on the center's relationship with patients with schizophrenia and their families. CONCLUSIONS: These results support the idea that it is possible to introduce psychoeducational interventions in mental health services after a relatively brief period of training and supervision.
