Evolution of the Transport Task : Undergraduate Thesis

    No full text
This thesis is based on the book: ˝Transport Planning and Traffic Engineering˝, written by author C. A. O'Flaherty. First chapter, ˝Evolution of the Transport Task˝, has been described here. This thesis describes the development of both passenger and freight traffic and the development of the road through history. From roads and trails for horse-drawn carts to modern highways. Demographic changes are also displayed caused by modern way of traffic, and the accent is placed on the transport system of the United Kingdom

Reaching Consensus On Global Health Nursing Competencies For Baccalaureate Nursing Education In The United States: A Delphi Method Study

    No full text
The purpose of this study was to reach consensus among experts on global health competencies for baccalaureate nursing students in the United States. A Nursing Global Health Competencies Framework (NGHCF) was created to guide identification of the domains and competencies for BSN nursing education. A three-round modified Delphi study intersected with a mixed methods research approach to reach consensus from experts in global health on essential global health competencies in nursing. The first phase revised the original list of competencies based on: (a) qualitative responses to the surveys conducted by Wilson et al. (2012), Ventura et al. (2014), and Warren et al. (2016); (b) a pilot study performed by this author; (c) a review of literature; and (d) the Nursing Global Health Competencies Framework (NGHCF) developed in a preliminary pilot study. In the first phase, nine global health domains and 52 competencies were identified. In phase two, two surveys were conducted for validation of the revised list of global health competencies using a group of six nurses with expertise in global health and baccalaureate nursing education which produced modifications in the competencies used for the third phase of the study. In phase three, 41 participants completed a survey to rate the extent to which they thought the 40 competencies obtained in Round Two survey were essential for BSN students. The domains and competencies derived in this study can be used to guide undergraduate nursing curriculum development in global health and provide a framework for both clinical instruction and evaluation of global health student experiences

Response of some morphological characteristics of maize (Zea mays L.) to environment, season and weather factors in a tropical rainforest location

Abstract: Maize (Zea mays L.) is a multipurpose crop useful in human diet and animal feed. Maize yield improvement has continued to receive a lot of research attention, but less so for plant morphological characteristics especially considering the ongoing climate change impacts that have affected the response of many crops to the environment. The information that can be received from research on morphological traits could be critical, as it could enhance the efforts at ensuring proper crop adaptation to climate change, in addition to the direct or indirect contribution to grain yield. Five maize varieties were planted in randomized complete block design experiments and monitored in 8 environments at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching and Research Farm to examine the response of maize morphology to environments, seasons and weather factors. Result showed highly significant effect of environment on most measured traits (P ≤ 0.01) with significantly higher means in the early season. Beyond the seedling stage, morphological traits responded positively to soil moisture, relative humidity, and solar radiation, On the contrary, soil heat flux, temperature, and heat unit negatively affected maize seedling growth. Keywords: Climate change, crop phenology, crop physiology, growth analysis, seedling emergence and vigour. Transgender identities, intimate relationships and practices of care

    No full text
This thesis is concerned with the social construction and formation of transgender identities, the impact of gender transition upon intimate relationships and the practices of transgender care networks. The research is linked to the ERSC research group Care, Values and the Future of Welfare (CAVA) and the focus of the project is in line with CAVA's enquiry into contemporary shifts in family, partnering and parenting practices, and the implications of these for future policy. The thesis is based on in-depth qualitiative interviews with thirty trans me and women who were purposely selected to reflect the diversity of transgender identity positions and experiences of gender transition. The overall theoretical concern for the thesis relates to transgender as a site through which to theorise gender identities as lying on a continuum of structure and agency; to signify identity as a fluid and contested concept, but one which also 'matters'. The study is developed from a queer sociological perspective, which is influenced by social theories of identity and engages directly with poststructuralist cultural theory. Additionally the study aims to bring a sociological analytic to the growing field of published literature within transgender studies. The work relates to contemporary sociological studies of identity, the body gender, sexuality, and practices of intimacy and care, and contributes to current debates about embodiment, reflexivity, agency and cultural difference. Located on the intersections of social theory, queer theory and transgender studies, the study represents the first UK empirical sociological study of transgender practices of identity, intimacy and care
