Personality Traits and Cognitive Abilities Relations Database

    No full text
This database contains correlations between personality traits and cognitive abilities in humans. These were compiled from other research done between 1925 and 2013. The original intent was to examine how these domains are related to each other. The related Stanek & Ones (2023) book and journal article report the results of these meta-analyses and interpretations. This database consists of personality-ability correlations that were amassed for a set of meta-analyses. Contributing materials spanned journal articles, theses, personal communications, archival datasets, conference presentations, and others sources. Further details about how these data were curated, cleaned, and organized as well as results of the meta-analyses based on these data are presented in Of Anchors & Sails: Personality-Ability Trait Constellations (2023).Stanek, Kevin C.; Ones, Deniz S.. Education with emotional parenting style in childhood in connection with emotional coldness and satisfaction in a partner relationship in adulthood

In this master`s thesis titled Education with emotional parenting style in childhood in connection with emotional coldness and satisfaction in a partner relationship in adulthood the author has researched the connection between emotional parenting style from the point of view of a grown up, emotional coldness (alexithymia) and satisfaction with one`s interpersonal or partner relationship that a person has in their adulthood, at the same time the differences between the sexes in the level of alexithymia were researched. This master`s thesis is divided in two parts, the theoretical and the empirical one. In the theoretical part, there is a presentation of education and parenting with its inevitable influence on the brain, as well as the presentation of neuro-anatomy of the human brain and further a presentation of emotions, their functioning and understanding of a child`s emotional function. The central part of the thesis contains the presentation of emotional parenting and its basic components with the terminology of emotional coldness (aleximythia), and the meaning of primal relationships for future establishing of them. In the second, empirical part there are results of a research, which was done on 289 participants, of those 218 women and 71 men, with their average age of 26.26 years. The results show a statistically important connection between the emotional parenting style and emotional parenting in adulthood, which means that the more a person assesses its parents or their parenting style as emotional, the lesser level of emotional coldness such person will show in adulthood. The conducted research has also confirmed a connection between emotional coldness and satisfaction in a partnershipwhile the differences between sexes in the dimension of emotional coldness could only partially be confirmed. The author has concluded, based on the data obtained, that there is a certain trend indicating that the more the parents educate with the non-emotional parenting style, the more the children will be emotional cold in their adulthood. Furthermore, she concludes that each component is connected to satisfaction in a romantic relationshipthe latter is negatively connected to the higher level of emotional coldness

Counterproductive behaviors: relations and heritabilities of counterproductivity across the life domains

University of Minnesota M.A. thesis. January 2012. Major: Psychology. Advisors: Matt McGue and Deniz Ones. 1 computer file (PDF); vi, 41 pages.A sample of 500 male twins is used to demonstrate that counterproductive behaviors across developmental periods and several life domains, including school, non-work, substance use, and work are related. Biometric analyses show that most of the variance in the counterproductivity scales/domains examined, including counterproductivity at work, is attributable to genetic and unique environmental factors. It is also found that a general counterproductivity factor accounts for approximately half of the variance in the specific counterproductivity scales. This general counterproductivity factor is also mostly affected by genetic (75.4%) and unique environmental factors (24.6%).Stanek, Kevin C.. (2012). Title: Exponential control of homogeneous Markov processes Author: Pavol Stanek Department: Department of Probability and Mathematical Statistics, MFF UK Supervisor: Mgr. Peter Dostál Ph.D., Department of Probability and Mathematical Statistics, MFF UK Abstract: This master thesis concerns exponential control of Markov decision chains. An iterative alghorithm for finding a control, that maximizes a long term growth rate of expected utility is developed. The utility is measured by exponential utility function. The algorithm is derived for both discrete time and continuous time chain. Subsequently, the results are applied on the problem of optimally managing port- folio with proportional transaction costs. The dynamics of the investor's position is derived and the consequent process is approximated by Markov chain. Using the iterative alghorithm, the optimal trading strategy is numerically found. Keywords: exponential control, Markov chain, portfolio optimization, proportional transaction costs

On Leon Petrażycki's Critical Realism and Legal Realism

    No full text
The author shows that Petrażycki adopted a form of critical realism, and that, despite him never using the exact term “legal realism”, his approach to legal phenomena can be regarded as a form of legal realism—if understood as critical realism applied to legal phenomena. In the first part of the chapter, the author presents Petrażycki’s critical realism. Here, his theory of perception and his conceptualization of deduction/induction as a scientific method (akin to Popper’s method) is presented. In the second part of the chapter, the author shows that Petrażycki’s theory of law, as well as his legal dogmatics and legal policy, should be all regarded as forms of legal realism. To this goal, after presenting Petrażycki’s distinction between objective-cognitive and subjective-relational sciences, the manner in which Petrażycki uses terms meaning “real”, “realist”, “realistic”, is examined. When reconstructing Petrażycki’s conception of legal dogmatics, the author also draws on Lande’s writings—the most consistent developer of Petrażycki’s ideas
