    L.A. Tabulae ad Astra

L.A.: Tabulae ad Astra (Los Angeles: Maps to the Stars) is a series of prints integrating portions of street maps of Los Angeles with gestural lines, impromptu marks from testing pen nibs, and cutting lines on boards—all unwittingly produced in the artist’s studio while working on other projects. The combined layers of intersecting and overlapping marks take on a surprising cartographic character that is reinforced by additional ancient map-like elements such as measurement grids, Latin phrases, beastiary, and scale markers. The resultant prints are also physically connected to the Los Angeles landscape, being printed on paper that was first soaked and stained in the waters of the L.A. River. Together Tabulae ad Astra plays on the constant tensions of control vs. freedom, order vs. complexity, safety vs. adventure, and city vs. wilderness. Zaprezentowano wybrane aplikacje dynamicznego plastrowania znajdujące zastosowanie w terapii wybranych dysfunkcji stawu kolanowego. Abstract The knee joint is the largest and most frequently damaged joint of the human body. The location (in the extension of the two long levers kinematic chain), complicated and specific construction of the knee joint cause that joint is susceptible to overload, injuries and dysfunctions. In the treatment of dysfunction of the knee joint is used many specialized therapeutic methods, but special attention should be given for Kinesiology Taping method. The paper presents the base and the possible use of Kinesiology Taping (KT). It is a syndrome of pervasive developmental disorders of the neural, skeletal and gastrointestinal systems. According to the statistics Rett syndrome occurs in approximately 1 : 10 000 – 15 000 live births. Besides the classical form of the syndrome, there exist an atypical variation and the clinically distinct form with preserved speech. The authors present a case of a patient suffering from atypical Rett syndrome variant, with no MECP2 gene mutation. Key words: Rett syndrome, MECP2, atypical Rett Syndrome form. Jesus as shepherd in the gospel of Matthew

    No full text
The aim of this thesis is to demonstrate that Matthew and those who first received and transmitted Matthew's Gospel during the late first century believed that Jesus was the righteous and royal Shepherd-Messiah of Israel, the Son of David. Matthew also believed that Jesus was the true teacher and interpreter of the law who could give definitive leadership and guidance to Israel in the aftermath of the Jewish war. Matthew's Gospel was written sometime during the last quarter of the first century, during the formative period of early Judaism. In this context, Matthew presented Jesus as the defining figure for the future of Israel. Jesus, as the righteous royal shepherd, will provide the authoritative understanding of Judaism and her traditions. Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of David, and fulfils the promises of the Hebrew Scriptures. Therefore, as God's choice, he is the one to be turned to during this time of transition and change. As the Son of God and Messiah, he has been given God’s authority and is personally present with the community to give this guidance. One of the ways the evangelist demonstrates this is in his use of the shepherd metaphor in regard to Jesus. The ancient metaphor of shepherd was an image for leadership in the history of the tradition. The shepherd metaphor was often associated with the spiritual and national leaders in Israel, for example, Moses and David. According to Matthew qualities of this kind of shepherd leadership are now revealed in their fullness in Jesus, the Son of God. Jesus as Shepherd-Messiah is revealed both explicitly and implicitly in Matthew. He is revealed explicitly in the shepherd texts of Matthew and implicitly in the Gospel through the literary and typological correspondences in the history of Israel. The shepherd metaphor has a long history both inside and outside Israel’s tradition. Kings and rulers of many types were referred to as shepherds. In the thesis, the metaphor IS explored in the Ancient Near East generally, the biblical tradition, second Temple Judaism, the Dead Sea Scrolls and Philo. The shepherd metaphor was also used to describe evil, false or abusive rulers and leaders. In Israel's tradition this false shepherd metaphor became especially prominent in the exilic and post-exilic prophets. After the time of the exile, messianic hopes grew. The shepherd metaphor became associated with these messianic expectations. Other relevant texts from Rabbinic Judaism and Greco-Roman sources are also considered. In light of this social and historical background, the intertextual and narrative implications of Matthew's use of the shepherd motif will be investigated in relation to his christological concerns. Finally, the shepherd metaphor as it is applied to 'Jesus as shepherd' is thoroughly examined in regard to the Gospel of Matthew. It is the intention of this thesis therefore to make a contribution concerning Matthew's use of the shepherd metaphor in the wider context of Matthean Christology

Skłodowskiej-Curie 9 Street, 85-094 Bydgoszcz, Poland E-mail address: [email protected] ABSTRACT Background & Aims: Elevation of alanine (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) activities may appear as liver injury due to fat storage and other enzyme sources, such as rhabdomyolysis. Elevated ALT is associated with all-cause and cardiovascular mortality in an elderly population. The aims of this study was to determine the effect of a 10-weeks training program on the serum activity of these enzymes in postmenopausal women with overweight and obesity. Methods: The study comprised 81 postmenopausal women with overweight and obesity: 34 (42%) of whom completed a 10-weeks Nordic Walking (NW) rehabilitation program, 27 (33%) of whom completed a Pilates rehabilitation program, and 20 (25%) of whom were the control group. Blood for testing for ALT, AST, and other parameters of metabolic syndrome was collected before the program commenced and after it finished. Results: Elevated (> 34 U/l) ALT and AST activities presented in 9 (11%) and 7 (9%) of the patients, respectively. A reduction in ALT and AST activities was observed in 43 (53%) of the subjects, and in 61%, 59% and 40%, and 47%, 63% and 50% of the individuals who completed the NW and Pilates programs and were in the control group, respectively. Conclusions: The outcome of the training programs on aminotransferase serum activities in postmenopausal women with overweight and obesity was individually different and not related to exercise type. Keywords: alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, obesity, Nordic Walking, Pilates
