Tutorial functions in 1st level nursing masters: cognitive study
Abstract
Tutorial functions are becoming increasingly more respondent to the requirements of student-based training. On the basis of national and international experiences, some active learning methods seem to be suitable for tutoring. Both basic and post-basic training can be directed towards satisfying the requirements of a society that is continually changing , forming professionals who are able to guarantee and maintain suitable levels of skill. In this study the results of a cognitive study, performed in various Italian universities where Masters in Nursing have already been implemented, are described. In particular, these results have shown the need for tutorial teaching methods that actively involve students in the training process
Introduction: modern society has an increasingly strong trend in the complementary therapies use, and inevitably affecting the health models, so is strategic to know what the nurses CAM views. Methods:a convenience sample of 415 nurses was used in this survey. CAM Health Belief Questionnaire (CHBQ) was used, an instrument for measuring nurses CAM views, for reliability analysis and structure factorial exploration. Results:cronbach’s was α.79. The item 7 has critical values, Cronbach's alpha if item deleted was .82, corrected item-total correlation was .124, and squared multiple correlation was .228. Hotelling's t-squared test was 327,29 (F = 35.66, P= .000). Determinate R = .023, KMO measure of sampling adequacy p = .838, and Bartlett's test of sphericity with χ2 = 1543,279 (p<0.001). The best model was principal component with Promax rotation at 2 factors, that explains the 58% about total variance. Correlations between factors by Spearman’s ρ was ρ= .190 (p < .001). Discussion:CHBQ reliability is good, but there are critical values for item 7. The two factors model has a good internal consistency, ability to identify two specific dimensions, and explains about total variance. Weak correlation between the factors. Other studies are needed to clarify the critical nature about item 7 and the correlations weakness between the two factors. Conclusions: this CHBQ model need for comparative studies for various statistical parameters, by using larger samples and sampling conducted throughout the country in the several nursing areas
Introduction: over the past years, the complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) has shown a steady increase in knowledge and use among the Italian population. This new trend in the population health needs opens a research question about CAM nurses’ beliefs. This multicenter cross sectional study aimed to evaluate the Italian nurses’ attitude towards complementary therapies by using the CAM Health Belief Questionnaire (CHBQ), to investi-gate its psychometric properties and validate the Italian version of CHBQ.
Methods: a convenience sample of 779 nurses from four Italian hospitals filled out the CHBQ.Results: the index of internal consistency measured by Cronbach’s α coefficient was.785, indicating a good internal consistency. The best solution produced from the exploration factor analysis was that of the principal components with Promax rotation, with two solution factors which explained 56% of variance. The average of CHBQ was 48.5, indicating a positive attitude of nurses towards CAM.
Discussion: the Italian version of CHBQ can be used for the measurement of the nurses’ beliefs and opinions about complementary therapies. The results of this study identify a general awareness and positive attitudes towards them, but also highlight the idea that CAM effects can be linked to placebo effect. It seems nec-essary to plan a structured education on complementary therapies for nurses, in order to meet the new Italian population health needs
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
