Sosyal adalet, tüketici refahı ve sürdürülebilir piyasa geliştirimi
In English: Recently, there has been an upsurge of interest in developing knowledge and new practices in relation to Islamic marketing. The birth of the International Association for Islamic Marketing, Journal of Islamic Marketing, annual conferences of Global Islamic Marketing, and ad-hoc workshops and seminars on various marketing phenomena (e.g., branding, consumer behaviour, and Halal products/services) in relation to Islamic doctrines and Muslim societies are examples of such interest. These activities have generally resulted in an unprecedented engagement of marketing scholars and practitioners in understanding the nature of markets (e.g., diversity, growth rate, primary and secondary segments) and market making activities (e.g., brand awareness, expansion of consumer culture, new methods of communications) in Muslim majority contexts. However, our analysis indicates that these developments have been extensively geared towards providing businesses with the means to achieve more economic gains and reach wider audiences. In our view, although the progress of firms is an inevitable part of market development, sustainable development of markets requires a just infrastructure that would recognise and systematically support consumers’ rights and responsibilities in both B2B and B2C sectors. Currently, such systems of consumer advice and protection are generally under-developed in Muslim majority markets. We argue that the establishment of justice in markets should be seen as a pivotal doctrine of Islamic system of economics and business, and consequently call for the development and implementation of consumer protection charter in Muslim societies.
Critics and Encounters in the Contemporary Social Structures
In an environment where debates on Eurocentrism have rapidly started to
increase and densify, it is possible to assert that Eurocentrism is constructed upon
dichotomies. In its essence, Eurocentrism is a discursive attitude that tends to
understand and explain non-European societies, as well as their histories and
cultures, from a European perspective. The term was first offered by Samir Amin
(2009) in his L’eurocentrisme: Critique d’une ideologie in 1988, but its implications
and roots go far back in time. In particular, criticisms that have been flamed with
Edward Said’s Orientalism (1978) created a strong ground in order to discuss
Eurocentrism. Further back in time and on the path leading up to Said’s criticisms,
the current political, economic, and social systems started to be questioned, which
were formulated in line with the perspective and needs of colonialism in the 19th
century in the process of decolonization and the establishment of nation states.
These questionings activated leftist or nationalist academics and third-worldist
intellectuals, including Amin, the author of Eurocentrism, against the universalist
positivist social theory that came back within the frameworks of modernization
theories in the 1950s. In this context, in a range of fields from economics to
history and from sociology to religious studies, alternative suggestions started
to gain shape against ways and methods of thinking which reflected European
hegemony. In our day, many studies conducted within the fields of post-colonial
studies and subaltern studies, Orientalism, and Eurocentrism have gained their
shapes through these traditions of criticism. Today it is possible to talk about an
emerging number of ways of comprehending these concepts in order to overcome
Eurocentrism. Europe has not been provincialized yet, Dipesh Chakrabarty (2000)
suggests, but the arrogant, self-interested and contemptuous evaluations have now
lost their vanity
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
Bilimsel Bir Söylem Formu Olarak Temsil : Mandeville’in Arılar Masalı Üzerine Bir İnceleme
In this thesis, The Fable of the Bees by Bernard Mandeville written in 1714 will be analyzed as one of the examples of classical representational narratives. Significant concepts from the text will be highlighted together with an analysis of the era in which it was written; and all of these will be brought together and explained in terms of the relationship between representational narrative and knowledge production. The Fable of the Bees is a unique work in terms of the social theory and the example of early modern Western society it presents, and in this framework, it will be treated as a part of the intellectual accumulation of the era. As a fable which uses the method of representational and metaphoric narrative in order to formulate a political and ethical social theory, it will also be evaluated as a literary work – keeping its place with regards to the period it was produced in mind. Lastly it will be explained how representational narrative is not only a story, but a form of scientific discourse which has a cognitive dimension and accordingly it will be expressed that it is possible to understand knowledge production processes of different civilizations through fable genre
Relationship between renewable energy and employment in European countries and Turkey : A panel data analysis
