Reconstruction of Baskakov operators preserving some exponential functions
acar, tuncer/0000-0003-0982-9459The present paper deals with a new modification of Baskakov operators in which the functions exp(mu t) and exp(2 mu t), mu > 0 are preserved. Approximation properties of the operators are captured, ie, uniform convergence and rate of convergence of the operators in terms of modulus of continuity, approximation behaviors of the operators exponential weighted spaces, and pointwise convergence of the operators by means of the Voronovskaya theorem. Advantages of the operators for some special functions are presented.Selcuk University Scientific Research Projects CoordinationSelcuk UniversityThe second author is supported by Selcuk University Scientific Research Projects Coordination
Blending Type Approximation By Bezier-Summation-Integral Type Operators
Acar, Tuncer/0000-0003-0982-9459In this note we construct the Bezier variant of summation integral type operators based on a non-negative real parameter. We present a direct approximation theorem by means of the first order modulus of smoothness and the rate of convergence for absolutely continuous functions having a derivative equivalent to a function of bounded variation. In the last section, we study the quantitative Voronovskaja type theorem.Research Project of Kirikkale University, BAP (Turkey) [2017/014]The first author is partially supported by Research Project of Kirikkale University, BAP, 2017/014 (Turkey)
A Brief Look at Automation Activities in Turkish University Libraries
Turkey, one of the cradles of civilisation, is a republic founded by Kemal Ataturk in 1923 after the collapse of the 600-year-old Ottoman Empire. Its location in two continents (Europe and Asia) has been a central factor in its history, culture and politics; Turkey has often been called a bridge between East and West. Turkey, Islamic in tradition, is a newly industrialised democratic nation of 55 million people.
In Turkey, there are 29 universities (28 state and one private). They are governed by a common law, namely the Higher Education Act. The majority of universities have decentralised libraries, which is largely due to the fact
that there has been no legislation or by-laws that specifically govern the establishment and organisation of libraries within a university. The importance of computers for library and information centres has long been recognised in Turkey. The history of computer use goes back to the early 1970s when university libraries started to use computers mainly for 'batch' jobs, such as the production of a union catalogue of serials, acquisition lists and the like. In a recent survey it was shown that almost all university libraries have a strong interest in automation1. Some have been planning to computerise their operations, whilst others are considering this option seriously. The existing computer use in university libraries is heavily centred in the following operations: union lists of serials and books, circulation control, acquisition, cataloguing and current awareness
Weighted Approximation by New Bernstein-Chlodowsky-Gadjiev Operators
Acar, Tuncer/0000-0003-0982-9459In the present paper, we introduce Bernstein-Chlodowsky-Gadjiev operators taking into consideration the polynomials introduced by Gadjiev and Ghorbanalizadeh [2]. The interval of convergence of the operators is a moved interval as polynomials given in [2] but grows as n -> infinity as in the classical Bernstein-Chlodowsky polynomials. Also their knots are shifted and depend on x. We firstly study weighted approximation properties of these operators and show that these operators are more efficient in weighted approximating to function having polynomial growth since these operators contain a factor b(n) tending to infinity. Secondly we calculate derivative of new Bernstein-Chlodowsky-Gadjiev operators and give a weighted approximation theorem in Lipchitz space for the derivatives of these operators.Scientific and Technological Research Council of TurkeyTurkiye Bilimsel ve Teknolojik Arastirma Kurumu (TUBITAK) [112T548]The first author is supported by The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey under Project No: 112T548
Socio-economic Status and School Types as the Determinants of Access to Higher Education
This study aims to evaluate the impact of socio-economic status and the type of secondary school at which a student studied, on their access to higher education. The conceptual framework around this is discussed within the framework of Bourdieu's theory of reproduction. The study was carried out in two complementary stages where different research approaches were used. In this study we used sequential explanatory design as a mixed method strategy, which uses both quantitative and qualitative approaches. Based on the mixed model approach, our research involved two study groups. The study group, which was part of the quantitative research, consisted of 983 newly enrolled first year students at Trakya University, in 2017. The study group, which was used for the qualitative part of the research, consisted of 26 students from eight different faculties, two different colleges, and four different vocational schools affiliated with Trakya University, in the spring semester of the 2018 academic year. The quantitative data was collected by the Determinants of Access to Higher Education Survey, which had been developed by the researcher. A Chi-Square test was used to test whether students' opinions differ according to the departments (faculties and colleges) in which they study. Qualitative data was obtained through the focus group interview and analyzed using a descriptive analysis technique. The results of this study indicate that: 1) The socio-economic status of students, the quality of pre-higher education experiences, students' preparation process for higher education, and higher education decisions, are contingent on students' ability to be decisive and efficient. 2) There is a significant relationship between social class, as determined by the education level of the family, the parental profession, and family income, and the faculty/field of their higher education. 3) Lower class students and their families view higher education as a human capital investment which can help to improve their income and living conditions in the future. When the overall results of this research were evaluated we were able to understand that an individual's social, economic, and cultural capital, was the main determinant of access to higher education.Trakya University Scientific Research Projects (TUBAP) Unit [2017/69]This research was supported by Trakya University Scientific Research Projects (TUBAP) Unit. Developing a Scale for Innovation Management at Schools: A Study of Validity and Reliability
The purpose of this study is to develop a valid and reliable assessment tool for use in determining the competency beliefs of school administrators about innovation management. The scale applied to a study group of 216 school administrators, after work Centered on assessing intelligibility and specialized opinion. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis has been applied to determine the construct validity of the scale. Cronbach Alpha inner consistency coefficient was calculated to determine the reliability of the scale. The corrected item-total correlations were initially calculated to determine how efficient the items covered by the scale are in distinguishing between people by the aspect they measure and t-test was conducted to determine whether there exists any significant difference between the item average scores of top 27% and bottom 27% groups. As a result of exploratory factor analysis of the scale, the scale was identified to consist of four sub-dimensions, including Project Management, Organizational Culture and 32 5-point Likert items. The factor value loads of items covered by the scale vary in a range of 0.51 to 0.77. The four-factor structure of the scale is also affirmed by the confirmatory factor analysis. The corrected item-total correlations of the scale items ranged from 0.77 to 0.39. Based on result of t test performed between the item average scores of top 27% and bottom 27% groups, it was observed that differences had been significant for all items and factors. The inner consistency factor for the entire scale was calculated as 96. The inner consistency coefficients of the scale's sub-dimensions varied between 85 and 94. The findings of this study reveal that Innovation Management Scale at Schools is a valid and reliable measuring tool that can be used to determine the competence beliefs of school administrators on innovation management
Dropout in Higher Education: Reasons and Solutions
The purpose of this study is to investigate the formation process of dropout in higher education, the factors affecting this process and the solutions offered to prevent it by benefiting from the views of academic along with the students who experienced dropout and return back to education via student amnesties. The study was designed as a phenomenological study. The study group includes 12 students who studied at different faculties and colleges of Trakya University during the term of 2010-2011 academic year and 6 academic members from three different faculties. Data were acquired by using semi-structured interview. In the study, it was noticed that academic adaptation and financial problems were emphasized frequently as the dropout reasons by the students and the academicians. The students and the academicians think that efficient counseling support can be a solution to many problems that lead to student dropout
Szasz-Mirakyan Type Operators Which Fix Exponentials
Acar, Tuncer/0000-0003-0982-9459; Cardenas-Morales, Daniel/0000-0003-1038-3116In this paper, we construct a new general class of operators which have the classical Szasz Mirakyan ones as a basis, and fix the functions and with . The convergence of the corresponding sequences is discussed in exponential weighted spaces, and a Voronovskaya type result is given. Also we define a new weighted modulus of smoothness and determine the approximation order of the constructed operators. Finally, we study the goodness of the estimates of our new operators via saturation results.Kirikkale University, BAP (Turkey) [2017/014]; DGA (Spain) [E-64, MTM2015-67006-P]The first author is partially supported by Research Project of Kirikkale University, BAP, 2017/014 (Turkey).
