The Competitiveness of Business Groups and Their Affiliates in International Operations
The discourse on the competitiveness of emerging economy firms continues with globalization.
This paper joins the dialogue by providing a framework of the competitiveness of business groups
and their affiliates in international operations. The goal is to address the vast literature on emerging
economies that remains short in providing the theoretical background on the competitiveness of emerging
and transitioning economy firms. To do this, this study used a critical review and analysis of the literature.
It offers some propositions to illustrate the applicability of the framework in analyzing
the international expansion of business group affiliates across borders. Ultimately, the paper contributes
to the literature on managerial capabilities and competitiveness of firms to sustain their operations
as the new emerging economy multinationals
Member participation in co-operatives: antecedents, research propositions, consequences and managerial implications
The co-operative studies literature reflects remarkably little effort to develop a framework for understanding member participation in co-operatives. This paper synthesize extant knowledge on the subject and provide a foundation fro future research by clarifying its composition, developing research propositions and constructing an integrating framework that includes its antecedents and outcome. This paper draws on the occasional writings about the subject from cross-country literature and as well as in related disciplines. Managerial implications of this research are also discussed
The Stages of International Growth of the Business Groups From Emerging Economies
The previous studies have focused on weak institutional environment in explaining the growth of business groups in emerging economies. The recent events, however, show that business groups continue to grow even when the institutions are getting better. This is evident both in the domestic and international growth stages. This paper addresses this by providing a group and a firm-level analytical framework as an alternative in examining the international growth of business groups. The focus is putting the institutional environment in the background and the business groups in the forefront. The paper builds on the endogenous growth of business groups and proposes that their persistence, regardless of institutions and level of economy, can be explained not only through their environment but also by the internal dynamics of their organizational structure and group-specific advantages. This proposition is based on the theory of the firm through the combined application of transaction cost economics, resource-based and dynamic capabilities views

A theory on the competitive advantages of business groups and their affiliates
This paper provides a theoretical framework to explain the competitive advantages of business groups and their affiliates. The theory is applicable to the developing economy business groups including those found in the developing economies. The goal is to address the literature on emerging economies which remains short in providing the theoretical background on the nature of different types of emerging economy firms and their competitive advantages. Some theoretical and practical implications are presented to explicate the value of the framework toward our understanding on the growth, behavior and competitiveness of business groups in different economies
The Global Expansion of UBER in ASIAN Markets
This paper analyzes the global expansion of UBER in Asia. The perspective is based on the context of internationalization process of ICT companies, especially the ride-hailing developer firms. The expansion of Uber was aggressive using a standard business model in every market that they get into. They focused on scale economy rather than localization of their services. The case analysis suggests that UBER is unsuccessful in its global expansion due to a number of factors especially the host economy context and local competition. Eventually, the company retreated in Asia and refocused its efforts in their home market. The case shows that the global expansion of ride-hailing firms is not as easy as the born global perspective would predict, as there are still a lot of frictions in the global market
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
